Just unboxed my DM12 about 2 hours ago and set it up. I'm new to synthesis although I've played keyboards and digital synths for over 20 years. But I only used the pre-sets. I thought it was time to try something new after watching hundreds of YT vids with people like you wowing me with their playing skills and knowledge that they were willing to share. Thanks so very much. In fact, you were the main reason I chose the DM12. Well, your tutorials and the fact that it fit my budget. The DM12 is my first true analog synth. So after I set it up I didn't want to waste time. I just dove right in without reading the manual or instructions. I was instantly lost and dumbfounded when it didn't make a sound. I mucked around for a bit and got some beeps and blips -- then I remembered your beginners vids. Your excellent teaching skills showed me the 'ropes.' There's still lots to learn so I'll be hanging around here for awhile. BTW, Behringer should be paying you for all the business you're sending their way!
i as well just jumped on and bought a DM12. it should be delivered here this coming Wednesday. i cant wait, nor can i thank you enough, as there are no music stores locally, and i purchased this instrument solely on the strength of your videos. thank you
Such a great resource. It's often easy to forget that not everyone has had exposure to these basic principles, and most manuals do nothing at all to help people understand.
I bought a deepmind 12 yesterday, got home and set it up. I must say the presets left me with buyer's remorse, but your tutorials have started getting me in the right direction for really harnessing the true potential of this synth! Can't thank you enough 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I know this is an old post, but I just picked up a used DM12. This was a great tutorial. Thank you for taking the time to lay everything out in such an understandable way.
Came across this video looking for some insight on the DM12 and got so much more. This is one of the best intros to working with analog synths I’ve seen and I learned a bit even though i already work with a Korg Minilogue and Behringer Model D
Great video I,m a new beginner in subtractive synthesis and bought the deep mind 6 although ive played them and been around them for years and your videos are extremely helpful for me . Your voice is calming and your explanations slow and you make it kind of understandable in a very hard to understand ,confusing subject for most people ....nice one mate I'm a follower and fan 👍 meodmusic
This is an EXCELLENT video. Not new to synths but just got the Deepmind12 and came across this video. So many times I've tried to explain these concepts to musician friends and never do it justice...Thanks!
Thank you so much for these videos. I got my DM12 almost a year ago to the day having never really played anything other than stringed instruments I've struggled along (mainly due to lack of time and practice) but really want to learn it all properly. I keep coming back to this vid and hope eventually it'll stick!
Great explanation. Just got my first synth (DM12). Love it so far. Already falling down the rabbit hole. Would love to see close ups of the DM’s display screen when you are making adjustments and explaining things. Otherwise the videos are great. Keep them coming! Thank you so much!
Great video. Very difficult concept to explain in such simple terms. So many little aspects of subtractive synths that are by themselves simple but can become very confusing when viewed for the first time. Had a basic knowledge already and I have just bought this synth but your video reiterated a lot of things and also helped me see the various 'modules' in context, which helped me understand them even more. Cheers.
Yay, you made my tutorial for me! Thanks!! Just got done watching this & it's GREAT! I learned a few things right off the bat and will need to rewatch a few more times to fully absorb everything. Really appreciate your videos - keep it up!! :)
I've just bought one of these synths and your videos are really helping me out in getting to grips with everything. Thanks for taking the time to make these, awesome work :)
once upon a synth I really love it! It's so fascinating discovering all the possibilities. Your videos have really helped me out no end, so thank you good sir :)
Your videos are really helpful. I've been a preset tweaker forever but I just got the DM12 and with your help I'm actually leaning and have fun. Thanks man!
Great tutorial , helped me understand the basics , i made a nice vintage organ sound then changed it into a base wobble :) Now you have started me on the Journey of getting rid of presets that i will never use and making my own sounds that i want , i just need pointed in the right direction on what wave forms to start with for certain sounds, piano , flute , guitar etc ... Thanks , now off to see if you have more DM content
Thank you so much for this! I have a music performance degree in piano and bought a DM12 2 years ago but have always been incredibly scared of it. Thank you for showing me I was doing all the wrong things when trying to create sounds 😅 I’m excited to actually know what I’m doing
I have to say, your tutorials are so good. It's weird, every morning I come to my studio and for the first hour it's your vids on before i start to make stuff. Thank you so much for these, I hope you realise how much they mean to all of us and please keep'm coming. GK
Amazing channel, really clear explanation and sounds. Can't wait for my own Deepmind to arrive and when it does I'll be rewatching all your tutorials. Thanks!
What's an Attenuator*? *My Neutron arrives tomorrow... *whistles Great video. Got the desktop & full synth version. Also worth mentioning are it's crazy good FX Section & fantastic Wi-Fi editor App on Windows or iOS. Having a large touchscreen makes this thing an absolute breeze to edit quickly. I'm not very analog savvy at all and had written 4 patches within a day or two without looking at the manual. It's VERY intuitive. Best synth I've seen that covers the widest range of playing levels from Absolute Beginners to Wizards & Prophets. Not sorry. ;)
So incredibly helpful. I'd like to request a video on commonly utilised effects on synths. My sound always seems a little off when I use effects to try getting the tone i want.
Wonderful tutorial. I didn’t necessarily need the lesson but reinforcing these ideas to your structure certainly does me some good. I hate to taint the comments of your video with rumors, but I heard the onboard fan was noisy, and that it wasn’t reliable for live use (firmware glitches). I hope that someone is able to correct me.
once upon a synth I think doing videos that show us how to program the Deepmind 12 to achieve bass, pads, FM sounds etc in a structured way would be fantastic, especially for us who are new to synthesis. Also, maybe in the future, showing us how you would use those techniques and sounds to produce tracks (i think you have done something similar with the Deepmind to create a beat) and mixing them in a DAW to achieve a single mixed track. Dude, i hope Behringer recognizes your work because you have convinced me to buy a Deepmind 12. Oh, you should sell t-shirts. I would totally buy one!
Great video. Would this synth be able to emulate the phased string pad sounds made famous by Jean Michel Jarre, or would a separate phase pedal be needed? Thanks. Great shimmer reverb video, too....
I love almost all your videos, some sounds have really inspired me! Have you studied in a music school to acquire the knowledge you show or you're just self-taught?
VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION. some middle eastern scales need certain keys to be tuned down or up 25% "microtonal quarter notes" can this be applied to the DM12?
yeah mine is particularly noisy coming out of the headphone output. The trick is to have the volume at a high level coming out of the deepmind (9-10) and then reduce the volume on your interface or amplifier. the noise floor isnt made louder by increasing the volume. so its best to do it this way rather than have a low volume coming out of the deepmind and a high level from the amp. hope that helps.
I just got mine and I'm following along, my settings are the same as yours, but I'm getting absolutely so sound out of the machine. I was a few minutes ago, moved something, now I can't get any sound back. Help?
I think this tutorial is backwards. It should start with a clean/zero starting point and explain as things are added. It may be called subtractive synthesis, but it need to be taught by adding information piece by piece.
I just got one and am a complete beginner. I want to learn how to do 1 finger chords. I know it can do it but like I said Im a complete beginner. Help!!
Hi. Love your videos man! ;) I bought a Deepmind 12 recently (not even a week) but I am having a little problem with it. While using headphones (ath m40x) through the phones stereo output, there is a constant noise if the fan level is above 35 (range from 0 to 255). The noise increases as the fan level increases.. and at value 35 is already at an impractical volume. It is as if the noise from the fan is going directly to my headphones. Connecting the L/R line outputs to my computer (UMC202HD sound card) and DAW, this does not occur. Does anyone has the same problem..
a fan is an electromagnetic motor, it WILL cause noise in an improperly grounded/shielded circuit. you may be able to fix by making a shield around the fan. must be connected to ground.
A month later after I watched this and still know very little about this synth. I watched this vid three times but still don't understand. Looking for an explanation that is geared, not towards experienced or knowledgeable users, but towards beginners to synths. People who have not used them except for presets. This not useful. I thought it would be when I first saw it but but don't know anymore than a month ago.
@@stephenlawsclifford Wow detective, please impart some more of your advanced knowledge upon us. Just because the dude can't see us doesn't mean it isn't off-putting.
@@stephenlawsclifford What a lucky coincidence! No, I'm not a real bishop, but it would be amusing if people changed their screen names to their professions.

Rob Cowie “Welcome to the Matrix”, same situation! Hehehe
This is probably the best video about synthesis basics that is out there. it is clear and straight to the point.
Great introduction to the DeepMind 12. Huge Thanks for this vid.!
Such a great resource. It's often easy to forget that not everyone has had exposure to these basic principles, and most manuals do nothing at all to help people understand.
Yup i totally agree with you, the manufacturers assume you have some understanding of the basics and the terminology , that's a big fail on there part
this is an old video, but i want to say how fantastic it is. you explain everything so well and have a very kind and welcoming demeanor

The old DX7II does this.

Great video. mate Thanks :)
Great Tutorial, thx!!! Im going to buy a deepmind 6, Bit i guess the Main Idea of creating sound will be the same
Really Nice. Thanks.
Thanks Helt!
great educational video - everything explained clearly and demonstrated great pace. Thanks :-) Best by a DM12 I guess :-)
More videos like this! Please! :)

Hello,
Would you suggest Deepmind 6 or DSI Mopho x4.
Also, which one is easier to use?
Great! Thank you very much

What about deepmind 6 ? Does the lack of polifony affects the final enrichment of sound ?

How do you select and assign specific wave shapes to the individual oscillators?
is there something distortion on effects?
very nice !!!

Here's a minor challenge: Can you create the keyboard sound Rick Wright uses for the intro of 'Shine on you Crazy Diamond'?
