My favorite part of any Back Issue is the Sigh Sal gives before having to explain something ancient and silly. This is one of the best episode! Only thing left now is Ben or Ethan having to explain a story to someone who knows even less than them
hears Ethan cogently explain to Jason why it's the conceit behind a lot of crossover comics to have the heroes arbitrarily fight wipes a tear from my eye: "Welcome to the madhouse, Jason!"
Honestly this show is so brilliant for how, by it's very premise, there's an inbuilt character arc for its hosts. Ethan and Ben have learned so much over time, and having them both explain things to Jason (who's basically them from before the show started) is so satisfying to watch. Paraoscial weirdness aside, I obviously understand they're real people and not characters, but it's just very fun to see how life can imitate art.
This episode is insane. Jason essentially mainlines every episode of Back Issues in one go. The Hobgoblin drama, Spidey v Wolverine, She Hulks 4th wall, the fucking Comics Code. What an all timer
Fun fact about the Spider-man drug issue, as Stan pointed out to the Comic Book Code Authority, it wasn't even Marvel's idea originally. The Nixon administration asked them to address drug use. The Comic Book Code Authority didn't care. When the book ran without the Seal of the Comics Book code and sold well the people behind the code revised the code to allow for drugs to appear as long as they were portrayed in a negative context.
...which was tested when DC released their "Green Arrow's partner, Speedy, has a DRUG PROBLEM!" issue with 'The Needle in full view! Talk about hypocrisy!
First ten minutes explaining to Jason a mini-back issues episode of the Spiderman vs Wolveirne book keeps making me think of that one clip of Sal screaming "Madness". Fantastic episode as always.
Hey @comicpop from Australia just wanted to say I’ve been waiting you guys religionly for about year and you guys are the reason I got back into comics and started collecting comics I know will see episodes watch a bit and if I like the sound of the story I wait and go get the comic it’s one of my favourite things to do now it’s like therapy going into a comic store now for me, thank you so much for all the work you put in I appreciate really it I also wanted say rip benny potter never got to meet him but I wish I did he was amazing and his passing still effects me I’ll always remember him thank you for all you do
the fact that we’re getting to see ethan explain very specific things like sal has for the past 10 years makes me feel so good it’s almost like sals a teacher… oh wait
It’s so cool to see Ethan and Ben add on and help Jason understand the book with their 10 years of comic book knowledge. It’s really inspiring and incredible that the idea of the show is working!
Oh my god, I think this is the first issue of Wolverine I ever read! I know this issue back to front! “What’s all the hubbub bub” is burned into my soul.
I really like how Ben and Ethan have gone from Jason’s spot to being in on the stories and continuity with Sal. It’s a really great arc and I’m proud of where they’ve gone
The whole discussion of the arbitrary CCA rating makes me think of the documentary "This Film is Not Yet Rated" that came out about 18 years ago about how arbitrary the standards for film were.
So black blood was due to the CCA!? I remember reading comics in the 90s (Spec Spider-Man and such) and seeing a lot of dark red things like blood, lipstick, hair, being replaced with black ink. I thought it was due to some kind of red ink shortage or printing problem.
Critical Mass is so fat, when he goes to the theater, he sits next to EVERYBODY... Critical Mass is so fat, when he puts on his BVDs, they spell BOULEVARD...
2:22 It's overlooked by most Spidey fans and virtually every adaptation that pre-Ben-death Peter isn't just a massive asshole, he's basically the ultimate stereotype of an incel

The actually was in office for the comics code authority on, I want to say E. 23rd St or thereabouts here in NYC. There was a minimal staff primarily funded by the Archie comics group.
"I thought this was gonna be a short book, we've been here for an hour and a half!" - Me when I sit to read a single book on a weekend and end up reading a years worth of stories
About D'spayre I was reading a Roger Stern Dr. Strange issue from the 70s the other day. I was looking into Clea books since they teased her MCU debut and Tiffany had mentioned Clea was in some of Stern's run. It was really weird as a Doc Strange newbie to have Nightmare in the same book as D'spayre, Nightmare looks like a normal guy while D'spayre looks like the grim reaper and has the weird name thing. Stern made it work, I just feel like I had a similar reaction to Jason upon seeing him for the first time.
I like the fact that this i have a photographer friend line is uktimately made pointless in a few years when its revealed Logan has known from the start that Peter is Spider-Man because he has Richards scent and Logan was actually the first to congratulate and know that Mary was pregnant with Petet
Comicpop, I have a recommendation for you guys! I have no idea if it would make for a good Back Issue’s but I still recommend reading it! ‘The Oracle Code’ written by Marieke Nijkamp, it reimagines Barbara Gordon’s paralysis in a world without the flamboyant heroes and villains. I don’t want to give too much away, but I really do think you guys would love it.
Hearing Ethan explain comic book tropes to someone else perfectly cogently, correctly & completely irreverently, is fucking amazing.
Sometimes I forget they’ve done this for like a decade
It’s the passing of the torch lmao

Also, the fact that the Comics Code Authority is just normal to Ben and Ethan... I'm so proud lol
Hearing Ben and Ethan on the explaining side of things makes me feel like a proud dad

"My poor brother turned to a life of crime to put me through dental school, and that accursed Spider-man killed him or something!"
two Jason episodes in a row is beautiful, but all four of the boys on the couch is absolutely breathtaking. this is my super bowl.
Need a bigger couch then they can get Tiffany on with all 4 boys
If they had all 5 id ascend
Exactly- also love the Shogun profile pic. Good taste!
@@TheCaptainKuhnno you gotta get all 5 on, and make ethan chill on the floor again 😂

So cool to see Ben and Ethan know more about comics than someone else. We've come a long way!
This episode shows Ethan and Ben are no longer comic newbies.
I think you'll find we can still surprise them.

S’anction has me convinced that the couch summons comicpop style humor. No matter the person . 10/10 guys!!
Or is it S'anktion
😂 When the lore is more interesting than the story, you know you reached Comic Pop ❤

Nothing like an episode of back issues on your birthday. Time to kick back and unwind.
Happy birthday big dawg

For a second i was like "Didn't they do this one?"
Sal casually in the best shirt ever

I laughed out loud multiple times and still have a grin on my face
Great episode
Who will Wolverine trick Spider-Man into murdering this time lol

Please have Jason there more often! Brings the show back to its roots and it’s just great having someone be so genuinely perplexed by everything again
Always great to see Jason stop by. This was a fun one!
I didn't expect to hear someone talk about one of my favorite comic book stories in the middle of this episode
This story is a rollercoaster and a half.😂
Damn another episode and Jason will be a main cast member……
And I’m here for it
good to back on your channel! i saw last weeks upload but forgot to watch it. love spidey and the orange wolvie suit
Most ComicPop thing, to get stuck on the ad at the end of the comic 😂
Jason looking like Dave from the end of 2001: A Space Odyssey with all of that information being thrown at him.. that's comics for you 😅

Wow, a bonus episode???? Awesome!
Good to see Jason back again
flash really went to a new low lol😆
Compromise: Flash wears the black Spider-man mask, Felicia wears the classic one.
Wait, when do we cover the Mary Jane cigarette saga?
I have never loved people I've never met more than these people I've never met.
Lol you guys could make an episode of just Sal taking Ben and Ethan through a set of early '90s Marvel trading cards and it would be AMAZING!😆
Sal, please, Flash totally wanted to be Eskimo bros w/ Spider-Man.
So what I'm hearing is all of New York City has dated all of New York City!!😂😂😂😂
