I don’t miss a WHO Wednesday. It sucks the big boys take all the wind out of your sales every month. Your channel is awesome! It kills me though that you aren’t listening to the original Who’s Next version. This song is sacred and in my opinion only hits hard on the original cut. Rogers dog Nelly passed that morning and he admits his vocals were extra sad and bitter when he recorded them that afternoon.
I think Keith would have been happy with that…it seemed to make him nervous…I think Rog must have nailed him a time or two….wonder if he ever got John or Pete?
Roger was so good here, you're right. And I've listened to and loved and studied the Who's studio albums for over 50 years, but you're also right that the Who is meant to be experienced live. The have to be seen, especially back the first few times I saw them, in the Keith days.
I've often said that "Quadrophenia" is my favourite Who album, but "Who's Next" is my favourite collection of Who songs. Nice to see the video, but IMO the studio version is actually better!
Totally agree with you about what happens with intense collaboration by musicians that know each other really well but have their own personalities and creative ideas. I remember the first time that lesson really dawned on me, I was around 21, and I had always loved jamming and playing in bands, but when it came to more composition type stuff, I felt like I wanted to be the master of my own ship. But the bass player and me from my post punk band at the time got together and did a side project, and we both had sometimes very different ideas about what we should try that would be cutting edge or provocative, but still fun for people to listen to. In the end, he brought stuff out of me that I never would have thought of if I had just been the master of my own ship, and I did the same for him. That lesson hit me really hard, and I have really felt the value of collaboration so many times in so many ways in my musical life over the decades.
Do you know of the famous concert in SF when Moonie passed out from taking too many of the wrong drugs and they took him off stage and asked if someone in the audience knew how to play drums and a guy volunteered? Legends.
This is from the Who's live performances at Kilburn (1977), followed by Shepperton Studios (1978) for "The Kid's Are Alright" Who Documentary Film. These were also the last 2 performances by Keith Moon, who died a month later. You should see the Shepperton Studios version of "Won't Get Fooled Again"! Townshend is totally wild, and Daltrey and Entwistle are in amazing form. Moon's drumming is only about "50%" due to poor health, but his drumming is still amazing compared to most bands. In 1978 Moon's performance was painful for me, but now I appreciate that Moon got this final "bash" with his band.
One of the best and one of my all time favorites, having blue eyes myself. You need to react to the original recording on WHO’s NEXT! Lee you really need to react to the tune This Song Is Over which is on WHO’s NEXT!
Random comment: As an older person all I need, musically, is The Who, Queen and Dan Fogelberg. Im not dismissing all the other great bands and music of my era and, of course, there are many stand out songs and artists. But, the three I mentioned’s entire catalog has never bored me no matter how many times I hear them.
Fantastic! If you want the ultimate live Who, Young Man Blues at the Isle of Wight! Or one nobody has reacted to - Tea and Theater. Fairly recent, just Pete and Roger, looking back on the past and those they have lost. Deeply moving.
Spray stink bugs with a mix of Dawn dish soap and water. Not sure if it kills them, but it makes them immobile so you can. I live in St Helens OR near the Columbia river and we get them a lot the last few years. Oh, and thanks for sharing your time with us. I love this song. They were awesome live.
Yes, most Who fans don't seem to know about "Don't Even Know Myself" and "Water" at Isle of Wight. The performance of "Young Man Blues" is more famous at Isle of Wight, but these two songs are equally good, particularly for Moon's drumming. Funny that all three of these songs are not the greatest Who songs as far as song-writing, but the Who just loved jamming to them in concert during 1969-70.
This was a one-off gig near the end of Keith`s time and considered a bit of disaster off the road for a while and under rehearsed. Listen to the original off Who`s Next and you will have a superb version with the band in their prime. None of the best Who shows were ever actually filmed because The Who banned cameras for a while with the best of intentions it has to be said. There was a circus that built up around their shows often with legions of cameramen and celebrities hogging the first ten rows which began to piss the band and their fans off. As a great live piece watch them play Sparks at Woodstock `69 or We`re Not Gonna Take It from the Isle of Wight `70.
I urge you to check out their half hour slot in the Concert for New York in 2001. The crowd were pumped for The Who and roared their approval. Short enough for a vid. Mick Jagger,on hearing that he had to follow The Mighty Who,simply said “oh…..fuck” Nuff said.
IMO, the Sheppaerton Studios performances were ok but truly not The Who at their best. Keith is clearly not in very good shape (final live performance before his passing). Behind Blue Eyes is a great song (don't bother with the covers...especially Limp Bizket). The studio version from Who's Next is fantastic and probably my favorite Who song.
Hey dad! What does “hours only lonely” mean? Silence How can a measurement of time apply to a specific emotion? Silence. Why? He was drunk & had to concentrate on driving
Roger is an extremely masculine front man who manages to avoid the pitfalls of cartoonish macho posturing and never retreats into the rock n roll “show biz” cliche of androgyny
The Who…my fav…I was wondering if you would consider featuring newer, unknown bands sometimes…you wouldn’t have copyright issues and would be helping the lesser known bands gain more audience…sounds like a win/win to me…(but, I am not a vlogger; so, I don’t really know. Don’t stop with the others…especially my Who!!! My nephew is in a band called Promises Unsaid…Metal Core/mixed genres….my nephew is the drummer, btw, and one of his drumming hero’s is Keith…They are on all platforms…but, I like Utube because they have some cool videos. Even if my idea sticks, lol, if you like metal…do a quick search on tube and check them out…My favorite songs of theirs are: Unami; Mind Play and their most successful so far, Media Madness…let me know anyone if you give them a listen and like them too…I haven’t got one bad reaction yet…
Who's Next is one of the top ten rock albums, all time.
Nothing beats the album version.
Sitting in the audience is different.
“My dreams they aren’t as empty as my conscience seems to be” is one of the great rock and roll lines of all time.
The album version is gorgeous. I saw them and they rocked the house down!
No one but the Who comes up with lyrics like: "and if I swallow anything evil, put your fingers down my throat". Great song!
Roger's vocal range and emotion is incredible. Even at 80 he still has a voice
Greatest Rock Band Ever

I’ve always wondered how Keith managed to sit still long enough to make it through the first part of this song
I think he went back stage and did shots….er something
I wonder what Roger would have done in the era of wireless microphones.
He’d have learned to control it psychicly by that point
Amazing they didn't get tripped by the cords back then!
Lol

A favorite of mine, even though I have dark brown eyes I would belt this out with big feelings. Very lucky I had music to keep me semi-sane.❤
The studio version is more balanced to the ear but I enjoyed the energy of this one, great pick. 👍
The whole album is great
A story written from the perspective of "the Bad guy." This is such a unique song. There really isn't another one like it.
Do you know of the famous concert in SF when Moonie passed out from taking too many of the wrong drugs and they took him off stage and asked if someone in the audience knew how to play drums and a guy volunteered? Legends.
That was the infamous "is there a drummer in the house?" incident at Cow Palace 😂
Horse tranquillisers!

LOVE THIS SONG!!! Studio cut is SO GOOD, LEE!!! ENJOY!!! :)
The Who were incredible in the 60s and 70s ❤
My favorite. Thanks darlin. ❤😊
I love this song. Thank you.
4th request for Won’t get fooled again Live from Shepperton Studios. I’m about to give up.
A great old favorite, like " Rain on me". Never saw this live so thank you! Yes, love The Who!!! 😊 Bluest eyes ever ❤
Check out the studio version. Absolutely worth it.
You should watch the "Won't Get Fooled Again" performance from that same concert. It's incredible.

I Don't Even Know Myself and/or Water from Isle Of Wight 1970. Both great tracks and as a drummer you'll enjoy the footage of Keith in his prime.

One of the first truly Hard Rock voices in the Music biz. Up there with all the greats. Eddy Vedder /Pearl Jam have done some cool who covers!
There was a point in my life that I identified so much with this song. Thanx for reacting!!
great reaction.

Saw them at the Texas jam Dallas cotton bowl. Early 80s.

Yes it's a fuckin' Who song! Always has been (they wrote it), always will be (they wrote it)! ))
Daltrey has said Moon's drums never stepped on the vocals.😊
You should check out John singing on "My Wife". Love The Who.
Listen to the lyrics, it's pure Townsend.
Don’t kill bugs! Put them outside! They might think humans stink lol BTW, I was at a show on this tour. Awesomeness!!
🚫 stink bugs!
The Who 🎇💕
You DON’T want to crush a stink bug.
From " Tommy "
If you think this sounds odd for the band, listen to side 2 of “The Who Sell Out.” Excellent but quite different from most of the rest.
If you look at John's mic stand he has 2 drinks bottles attached 1 with brandy and 1 with Jack Daniels
I love Limp bizkits cover

Gotta hear the so called first rock n roll hit " Rock around the clock" Bill Halley and the Comets" 1955 , great song, kinda started it all
