I love this man! Every time I watch one of his videos, I feel like he is talking directly to me in a classroom and I have learned so many techniques on how to paint because of him. I think I have watched every single video or close to every single one. For those who would love to learn the art of painting, Jonathan is a genius and he will enlighten you with his knowledge.
So funny I had over time been looking at these mats and thinking how lovely the designs are and ‘what could you use them for’ rather than a mat! So delighted you have shown us! Many many thanks
Thank you very much they have some amazing designs in these mats well worth an up cycle 😊😊
I started watching this and could not leave! I have tons of laundry to do but that has to wait! Absolutely lovely!
I'm the same. There are things I should be doing and I'm sitting here mesmerised by a bloke building a box!
Brilliant! I never would have dreamed to use one of these mats, but it is just stunning. I'm going to stick with you now that I found you.
This is the second of your tutorials I’ve watched and wow, you have a gift at explaining and demonstrating! Thank you so much for all your inspiration! Sue, South Africa.
Oh thank you so much that means the world to me send my love to South Africa x
OMG, you are soooo creative! I absolutely love this!!!
Oh thank you very much so pleased you enjoyed 😊❤️🙏
oh yes, wood storage for the fire. Brilliant!
Jonathon! That's the secret sauce I've been looking for to make my planters stand out! WOW! Thanks!
Also, I love me some artists that just mark out where to put the screws/slats instead of all of that measuring nonsense that turns most people off of ever tackling a project like this!
Hats off to you !!! Your creativity is truly AMAZING !! Please, I beg of you to keep posting your tutorials as they are very much appreciated !!!
Thanks for the support Angela. It's good to know it's appreciated.
Thank you for a lovely tutorial! 😍 I woke up at 2:30 in the morning and found your project and was glued. Now am still awake with lots of ideas swirling around this 73-year-old head. Looking forward to more of your projects. Greetings from New Zealand.
Hi Jonathan loved your example this morning. Thanks so much. Just gorgeous. I hope it’s getting warmer in the UK as we start to go into winter. Best regards to you again from South Africa
Hi thank you so much and yes we are starting to warm up here it seems like it’s been a long winter sending you all the best from the UK 😊❤️🙏
What a clever idea this is and it has sparked an interest in me to try it! Your tutorial is outstanding and includes steps I wouldn't have thought on my own which make complete sense, like the use of paper napkins as a binding layer for the paint. You explain things so clearly and why something is done which is so helpful. The textured effect and paint really do look convincing for faux ironwork and fun to do. I am in love with the result and what a wonderful housewarming or any other gift this would make for someone who appreciates fine living and decor. Everything you do is a testament to your passion for creative painting that brings out the best of just ordinary items. It is such a pleasure watching your videos, and they are a great source for inspiration!
This is an excellent tutorial on how to build a box, before we even get to the decoration!
Watch this Space……oh yes, you love Rachel! Amen! Love your work!
Who knows how these videos appear on my feed. I love this idea and I foresee a run on decorative doormats. Hi from Australia.

I want to cook a swig of a whole glass of paint water I think it was Greek blue didn’t taste very nice 😆

Jonathan, I am blown away. How/where do you find / come up with these tricks? You are so clever. I am learning so much. Thank you very much.
This looks like a metal container. Amazing!
Love it!!!
Bellísimo…!❤
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I will be on the lookout for rubber mats x
You can find them second hand and give them a good clean and save from landfill!
If I could please make a suggestion? The slim half-rounds can have the nails driven most of the way through and Then Glue it and finish the nailing onto the box. Also there are small squeeze clamps to hold the small pieces onto the box. Kreg makes an excellent corner clamp so you don't need a helper or two more arms like Vishnu. Loving this project!
Thank you so much great suggestions 😊😊❤️🙏
Wow!!! What an amazing job Jonathon!!!👏
Hi Johnathon, I luv your Tutorial, it’s so easy to Follow.
Hope to try this some time, I have quite a few wooden Bores I might work with. TFS. 🙏🤣👍
This caught my attention and your talent and voice sealed the deal for me to subscribe to your channel and opened up several more tutorials in tabs to watch. Here in the USA I tend to use Mod Podge and using chalk paint (diy not name brand) and normally finish with a wax or a nice spray with Clear Matte Minwax Polycrylic Protective Finish. I did like how you used the single layer napkins as it gave it depth and character. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge it is appreciated. :) This is a perfect project to make and will add some bun feet and a nice soft but thick bed for my cat to sleep or hide in. I see you have a helper as well and what a pretty grey baby you have. :)
Firstly I’d like to say thank you for subscribing and secondly thank you for taking the time to write such a lovely message it truly means the world to me when I find like-minded creative like yourself that appreciate the little seeds that I plant on my TH-cam channel please let me know how you get along with your project I’ll be sure to send me pictures over on my other platforms all the best and happy creating 😊❤️🙏
Una idea estupenda!!!
Great tutorial Jonathan. I really appreciate the detailed instruction.
This project is beautiful and I can imagine so many applications especially since, as you pointed out, the rubber mat is so easy to cut.
Thank you
Absolutely all my pleasure so pleased you enjoyed it x

Wow. I want to do this. Love it.
Please do Sue and share your results.
Krylon Makes a spray paint that will adhere to plastic. I would try that as a primer and save some time in not putting paper napkins on the project. I think the Paint technique would compensate for the missing paper napkins as far as texture goes. Very clever and unique project as usual. You are very talented
