If you're newer to guitar and came here for advice, you're going to leave only knowing about this amp. The video doesn't service the end user that well but Paul Reed Smith is being serviced very well.

After working as a sound tech for a while, I think direct/headphone out option is pretty important feature. Bass players have it right; sometimes the correct amount of stage volume is none at all.
Until you unplug your headphones and realize you still sound bad.
#1 tip for beginners -- Don't start chasing expensive amps until you're past the beginner stage and have become a competent player. The best amp in the world isn't going to help you if you're still fumbling with chords and rhythm.

The main reason not to chase an expensive amp is because you probably haven't matured enough to know what you really want. If you can afford a nice amp and it inspires you go for it.
Tristen Thayer amen to that, if I actually bought the stuff I wanted as a beginner I would have regretted it when I actually found my playing style
limitations expand creativity. Making the best out of your gear or situation might spark something that wouldn't come out even with a 3,000 dollar amp. It might feel counter intuitive in the beginning but starts making sense eventually.
Good advice. My first amp was a Yamaha THR10, the cream coloured one and used it up until earlier this year when I out grew the amp and needed 2 foot switchable channels to play a clean intro and a dirty channel to continue the song I wanted to learn. It took me 12 months to find an amp to replace it where the replacement amp had all and more features but was a tube amp with more feel on the fretboard.
I was looking for versatility and ended up with the Fender Bassbreaker 15w. I love it. It's all I need at the house or at a mic'ed up gig. Hey Tyler, great playing man. I've been watching you since nearly the beginning of your channel and even though you've always been excellent, I can see that you are continuing to grow in your musicianship too.
You made me realise that I don't need a new amp, since the one I have is perfect for my needs. Makes me really glad that I begged for this one and that my dad agreed to get it for me back when I was a teenager...
I have a 1999 Fender Princeton 65, and while I do love it, I thought it was time for a more 'serious' amp - a head with a cabinet. But this single 12" combo amp sounds great, I love the clean sound and the drive (still looking for a distortion pedal that I like as much), it has an effects loop and it's a whopping 65 Watts. I don't think I ever turned the volume knob past 2 at home.
I also like the reverb, but I might eventually get a reverb pedal for more versatility... I think back in the day it cost around $700 (where I live prices were double what they cost in the US at the time. It's better now).
Thanks for reminding me why I got this amp in the first place (and it seems like teenage me knew what he was doing more than I remember)

I honestly have had my amp for years before I unlocked it's potential. I have a Peavy amp with multiple effects, and I love it. It's very versatile and that's what I was looking for.
As a total beginner i started with Roland CUBE 15W XL (used). And guitar is Harley Benton Amarok allso slightly used. I think those will serve me for a good time to come 😊

I freaking love the production of your videos. Your playing and camera shots/angles of that natural Fender Strat you have (in some other videos) single-handedly changed my mind about Strats and now I want one lol
I been having a sonzera 20 for about a year, it's the only amp that I like as much as my vox ac15. The sonzera 20 is a hell of a lot louder than the vox ac15.
Update: sold the sonzera and got a Mesa Boogie. The mesa is so much more versatile then the sonzera.

Can never go wrong with a marshall or a fender. Two classic tones that have outlasted more expensive boutique amplifiers year after year.
I just bought the VOX classic rock headphone amp and it's one of the best guitar gadgets ive bought. Now I'm running and jumping around at home playing guitar
Thankyou finally someone informing people about FX-Loops on Amps. The other thing to watch for is some of the older Amps will have Fx-Loop input/Output but they won't be able to give you the strength of signal/sound you want (when used with multiple pedals).. so test before buying..

Love my little Fender 15G Good sound quality, easy to to carry, minimal background noise from the amp, love the gain on it. I'm a beginner electric guitar player. I create my own music. :).

The only PRS amp worth buying is their MT15 head or whatever they call it. It rips

Tip #8 buy an Amp you can use a home and at the gig. A lot of amps have power switching, so you can run at a lower wattage at home and then kick it up for the gig. I have a Marshall 2525H that I love for that reason; at home I run 5W into a 2x12 cab and at the gig I run at 20Watts into either the same 2x12 cab or a 4x12 cab for outdoor/larger venues. Tip #9 I agree that a 1x12 combo will work for most gigs, but buying a head and several cabinets can add some versatility to your stage setup. Like I mentioned earlier I have both a 2x12 and a 4x12 cab for the same 2525H head depending on the gig. The power switching is so important for me because I can't justify having an amp that only sounds good cranked at gig stage levels, it has to sound good at home too.... even if I'd love a 50W or 100W Marshall :)

First piece of advice for new players: don't get the impression from more seasoned players that you need to drop $1000+ on a big tube head and separate cabinet. If all you're doing is practicing in your bedroom, especially when you're just starting out, a sub-$200 20 watt combo amp will suit you just fine. Maybe slap a cheap effects pedal or two in front of it when you get a little better. Wait and see if you really stick with the instrument before you go spending any serious money on it.
I'd also personally recommend avoiding modeling amps when you're new and sticking with something relatively simple (clean and distortion channels, the essential control knobs like bass, mids, and trebble, maybe a reverb switch). You want to spend your time practicing, not messing around with a million possible permutations to find one that doesn't sound like garbage.

Very important - if you're looking at a head, be aware of it's output impedance! Ideally, you want one with variable impedance, but make sure you don't get an amp that won't work with your favorite cab!
3:2:1 ratio... 3 for lessons if your a beginner, 2 for the amp, 1 guitar. Spend more money on the amp than your guitar. Even inexpensive guitars can sound amazing in the right hands and with the right amp.

I don't understand why people think Tyler is trying to push PRS amps/guitars on people. He is simply using the gear that he owns including a recent amp purchase to play some while giving some tips about buying amps. In no way did it seem to me that he was saying to buy any such brand and he did state something similar at the beginning of the video. Well done Tyler, good tips and as always great playing!

With regard to amp wattage, I have found many amps with full features like footswitching capabilities, eq for each channel, boost, midi, etc are only available on the 100+ watt amps. Until very recently with the growing popularity of lunch box amps, these options were not available universally outside of the full or half stack realm. My first real/tube amp was a jcm 2000 tsl 100. The deciding factor was the tsl 100 having independent eq controls for each channel. The rest of the amps in that range had to share eq to varying degrees. I do agree with the remaining 6 points however. Great delay setting tone in this video!

I was set to buy a 40 watt amp based on specs and price after playing two years with a 15 watt Marshall. But then I realized, I don’t need another practice / beginner level amp; I need the amp I’m going to need for the next two years or more, good enough to play live with a drummer but also has the tone I want. So now I’m on the hunt but not in such a rush as I was to get something I can buy now.

The environment you play in makes a difference in sound too. If you crank an amp in a tight, squeezed environment, it's going to sound completely different than if you were in a big open room.
This sounds like a nice amp seems it has two good channels , some amps have a terrible clean sound (which is what I look for first) and a great overdrive, which is frustrating, two amps are too much to transport.I use a Princeton 65 re-issue and I swapped out the rubbish baffle board and speaker that really let the amp down badly -I now wonder what other good amps are ruined by cost cutting?I think pedal overdrive is a good enough sound for most gigs ( but probably not as good as an amp overdrive)

Wow I've been out of the musician world for a while obviously, when did PRS start making amps!? Lol sounds beautiful though 👍🏼lots of clarity with great sounding crunch which I used to love about the old Mesa Boogies, but this is different and I like it.

One of my favorite rock amps is a Bogner Ecstasy 101b I saw Steve Lukather use it onstage and it sounded amazing clean and distorted but for my country stuff I'll stick to wanting a Twin Reverb

A few seconds past @3:45 i smiled a little as I watched his tongue slowly come into frame revealing his soul had taken over & was completely in charge at that moment. Lol

I love a seperate amp head and cab set up. I know something better will come along. I think as far as a cabinet. The Mesa Boogie 2X12 Vertical is great. These are going for about 1,000 and have been for some time now. Has great casters, speakers and metal handles. The Mesa Boogie Triple Crown 3 50 watt head, I feel can do just about anything. I paid 2,200. All specs are on line. If someone is reading this, what type of Fender tweed combo 1X12 w low wattage, & FX loop? I want to buy smart. I am looking at the 1,000 range.

Tbh I’d say get an amp that’s considered a “Pedal platform”. the clean channels always sound incredible and you can cram as many pedals into it as you want and it’ll handle them beautifully, I run a Zvex fuzz factory, a boss CE-2W, and an Ibanez TS9 into a fender blues deluxe reissue and it does any kind of psych-blues-rockabilly-punk-rock-bullshit I could ever want.

Really enjoy your videos. I really like a video where the person doesn’t go on and on about tube amps being all you need, and all that is good. I have a lot of gigging experience but I am not able to anymore because of health issues. I play constantly at home though, and have turned to modeling amps for versatility and ease of use. I have a GT40, and have used a friend’s Kemper. I have a lot of fun with both, making a variety of good music. I sold most of my gigging stuff but still have a deluxe reverb and a couple pedals. I can get almost identical tones, but for fun at home and recording ideas, it’s just as good as my tube amp. Anyway, enjoyed your advice and that it wasn’t about how you hate one type, which many videos are. Even if you do actually hate one type, lol!
Boxed up all my amps and have gone computer sims and modeler pedals. Way more versatile, less space, and in the case of the AX8, indistinguishable.

No. Moddelers aren't as good as the real thing. It's easy to tell when it's a moddeler vs the real thing, even solid state amps
How can you do a wet/dry/wet rig on a computer?

2.) If they can't do wet/dry/wet now, if enough people want it in the future they will do it. It's just software after all. Amps and effects are just "objects". That's what scalability and object-orientation is all about. (BTW, I'm a software engineer)

I'm always looking for the best quality vs price ratio. Jet City amps are fantastic and very affordable. I'm also looking for high-quality 1960s and 70s lesser known British amps that can be had for dirt cheap. WEM, Carlsbro, Selmer, Burman etc.. I also avoid amps with switchable channels, there's usually a bunch of junk electronics in the signal path.

I need a reliable decent sounding multi-fx modeler having extensive sound shaping parameters where every parameter is controllable and automatable via MIDI CC, responds to MIDI clock and MIDI time code, time-related parameters such as delay time and modulation rates/frequency are syncable to MIDI beats driven by the MIDI clock and can be set by an entire range of note values from whole notes to 64th notes with triplet variations, has flexible routing options to allow for pedals before the input and multiple line level inserts switchable between series or parallel wiring, and options to output to the return or post-preamp input of a guitar amp w/out IR or speaker sims while outputting IR/speaker sim processed signals to a clean solid state power amp driving a full range system. There are only two such self-contained units I'm aware of as of now, the Axe FX II and up or the Line 6 Helix. Otherwise, I'd need a computer driven system running Guitar Rig, TH3, etc.

Like the clean channel of your amp - you can fix dirty stuff with pedals, much harder to "improve" clean tone with pedals tho

I’d say price is probably one if, if not THE biggest factor in buying an amp or other gear. I know it is for me, personally, and I’d imagine that’s true for a chunk of the majority.

I discovered long ago that if you want that headroom you need those watts..imo 50 is about perfect
If you are a beginner, get a Peavey Vyper.
If you are Intermediate, get a Katana 100 2
If you are Advanced, get a Peavey 6505+
What about an FRFR (PA speaker) instead of an amp? I do everything though a Line 6 Helix these days and I'm happy with the tone so buying an amp that will color the sound seems silly. Still, I love the idea of having a guitar amp and not a PA speaker. This is a question more than a comment, all I have at the moment is a Fender Frontman 25R.
