Yes I suggest just thickening up your regular pouring medium. Check out my video number 8 for my recipes and product recommendations to thicken your paint.
Great information! Thanks for sharing! Now I'm curious, lol! It would be interesting to compare your results with some of the pre-made pouring mediums such as Liquitex or Artists Loft.
Thank you 😊 I was thinking of doing this but I have a friend currently testing name brand pouring mediums as a result of this experiment. I'm excited to find out the results.
I am an artist and also worked in the paint depart for over 17 years. Floetral is a paint thinner, not a finishing product. All the other products need to be thinned with water in equal amounts of the max quantity of tint, not used direct from the can. Varathan will yellow over time. I personally use MinWax on my paintings. Outside I've used the Behr exterior satin deep base/thinned, no yellowing. All products when poured will give a different appearance than thin coats.
Correct Floetrol isn't used to finish paintings but many people use it to thin their acrylic paint and wonder why it goes dull and loses colour. All non archival (artist grade) products will eventually yellow, usually due to the acid content. I shy away from adding water as it compromises the products colour, binders and finishes
Very helpful, thank you for the effort
