  • Silverado-Sierra ,Automatic Transmission Shifter Cable Replace. If you are having issues shifting in or out of park or L ,your shifter cable may be getting bad.On Silverado-Sierra trucks the automatic shifter cable comes up through the floor and is under the carpet on the drivers side.Because the drivers feet is always on the cable they seem to go bad a lot on Silverado-Sierra trucks. Tried to instal a aftermarket ,Automatic Shifter Cable on this Silverado-Sierra truck but could not get the truck to shift in to low gear. I needed to have this Silverado-Sierra going again so I used the bottom half of the original shift cable. The hardest part is getting the shifter cable through the wire retainer ,that is over the steering column near the firewall. It is not to bad of a job to do but just make sure to remember how the shifter cable is routed before removing the old one. I will use only AC Delco Automatic Shifter Cables for Silverado-Sierra trucks from now on.

    WOW!!! How AWESOME!!! I just had an issue with my 2000 Chevy Silv. 1500 not wanting to go into park, or past Neutral!!! My Shifter was loose so I fixed that problem. Put it all back together & still no Park or past Neutral!!! Then I followed the Shift Cable & under the floor grommet. ( Not far from yours!!! ) So I came inside to look up on You Tube To see if I could do this job too... Your video ( & comments) Helped me to see where/how everything gets disconnected, reconnected & Adjusted!!! Thank you!!!

    Awesome video!! Highly recommend using AC Delco replacement. If so be sure to hold both cables together while mating until spring on cable from cab is completely compressed then release only cable from transmission to lock down clip and slide collar back over. Cable is already adjusted if done this way. I don't know if aftermarket is same, but trust me use OEM as this is not a job you will want to tackle anytime soon after.

    There are two cables for your truck.
    Identical except for the length.
    One is about 7” longer.
    The front half is the same length the second half is longer. Probably why you had to use old “second half”.

    Very well done! Followed this and had very little trouble. Main problem for me was getting the tab to align with the slot at the steering column end. It kept being 180 from where it needed to be and I couldn't get my hand or any tool in to turn it. Finally removed the junction box and holder and easily put it into place. Still having an issue getting into first but all back together. The video says to lengthen to get 1st but it appears the rubber "O" ring that seals the cable is showing when I do that. I'll keep trying. Again, thanks for taking the time to put this video together! Eldon

    Only thing I’m finding wrong with the video is you don’t tell us the sizes for the bolts and screws, aside for that it’s very insightful

    So I am having the same issue, used an aftermarket cable from O'Reillys. It will not shift onto Park or 1st. I adjusted the heck outa it, no progress, so, I am going to have to spend another 80 bucks to get an AC Delco, I guess. Thanks for video.

      @@wtbm123 No, Thank You! I looked all over the Utube, you are the only one that published that info. I got the AC Delco cable from Chevy Dealer here in ABQ, NM. Adjusted it to center like you said, and it banged every gear, the first time, just like down town. I was able to get a full refund from O'Reillys, I explained to the manager, it would not adjust correctly. It did not function properly. My girl friends has been very happy and it works perfect. Thanks again. Semper Fi.

    I have the opposite problem the shift cable ears broke off where it attaches to bracket down by the pan. I have a new cable I have the same connector as you by the floor. I can't figure out how it comes apart to install the new cable. I slide the red clip down and turned the blue sleeve, But I the must be one more step before it comes apart, right?

    • @wtbm123
      @wtbm123  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      bullitt65 only connector by the floor was the adjuster . not sure if yours is the same , but collar slides back and then pull out the clip.

    I have the same exact damage on my cable and the floor pan is rusted out and there is no way to secure the cable to the floor pan.
    Wondering if I'll have to fabricate some sort of floor pan to secure the cable or will it work just going through the rust hole and hanging there loose ?

    • @wtbm123
      @wtbm123  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It would still work , just make sure it does not rub through on a sharp edge

    • @Bob-fk6kn
      @Bob-fk6kn ปีที่แล้ว

      Hell, as usual I didn't open the box when I bought the cable and of course it was the wrong cable. I hooked it up anyway and just pull and push on the cable where it hangs out of the dash below the steering wheel to change gears.

    I'm trying to replace this on my 04 duramax, and cable(from the dealer) seems too long, it only meets the transmission lever when the lever is in park and the cable in the low position? I do not understand this

    • @wtbm123

      +matthew bell i would compare with old and see if same size , other than bending something i believe the connector in the middle of cable is only adjustment

      I am not sure , but if you call most dealers , give them the vin tag number from your vehicle they will usually give you your correct part number

      If it worked fine till removed , maybe the shifter is not in park . I would inspect cable if all looks good , then look at anything that was removed and put back to be sure it is on proper
