- A little more than a year ago I started composing.
Today I'm uploading my 1st symphony.
I had virtually no musical education previous to composing, and now after starting to study music I still keep composing with my ears as my number one tool before theory.
Of course I'm already working on a 2nd one, and I'll post updates about that one too, soon.

Hello Maia, thanks for sharing your work and your impressive efforts and achievements with this powerful symphony! I'm especially struck by the whole development from minute 16 on till the end. First this energetic, rhythmically intricate theme, which you lay out in interesting contrapuntal structures, thrilling... then bringing everything back to this wonderful calm peacefulness from which on the incredible build-up to the final (very Sibelius-like) climax and conclusion takes off and slowly increases. That's really astonishing and breathtaking. Congratulations for everything! I'm also just writing my first symphony in the moment which will be a 35 minute single movement piece. About 60% of it are already finished. It's very inspirational to see other composers like you having reached the goal already. I'm amazed how many good composers there are to be discovered and explored on TH-cam! You're certainly one of the major discoveries for me!
Thank you so much! 😄 I’ve had a few others tell me it reminds them of Sibelius too, although I’ve never listened to more than his 1st symphony once or twice and Finlandia a few times.

So happy to have the entire symphony now to hear. You've done a fine job in the overall design and structure of this work...bringing back and transforming the opening theme at the end is very satisfying. You are to be congratulated on such an achievement. I certainly know, being a self-taught composer working by ear, how it feels to undertake a large scale symphony. For my taste I felt the 1st section the 1st 12 minutes hovered too close to the b minor tonality, which seemed a bit long without much tonal variety. I like the fast scherzo section in particular the last minute of it where you really begin to make some interesting modulations and the music breaks free of the tonal holding pattern it is in....I would say from about 16 minutes on to the end it held me in the grip of it's power and the dramaturgy of the entire symphony comes together.
Haha thanks 🙏 The last 3 movements are also all connected, which might make it feel more gripping in a way. I also have to agree a bit with how the 1st movement always heads back to b minor can be a bit monotone in a way. I feel like I grew a lot from writing the 1st movement however, and then went on to write something I would consider some of my best work so far.
