-- PRESENTATION: SHINTŌ MUSŌ RYŪ JŌJUTSU --
Shintō Musō Ryū Jōjutsu has been founded by Musō Gonnosuke Katsuyoshi at the beginning of the 17th century, as a technique to defeat swordsmen with a staff. It is based on Tsuki (thrust), Harai (sweep) and Uchi (hit), using both sides of the staff equally. The movements are carried on continuously and should adapt to the opponent's movements and attacks as if the Jō was a part of the practitioner’s own body.
That school, in particular, is led by Esumi Kazutoshi, director of the Jodo department of the Tokyo Kendo Federation.
