I'll have to do more testing but I'm of the belief to put the biggest speakers you can fit for heights...I know there isn't much sound going up top in a lot of Atmos mixes, but I feel you should try to match your base layer woofer/tweeter size to your heights. I have the 1723 thx s heights and they made a difference over my previous SVS heights.

I've got six LSiM 703's as my heights. They're big and heavy but work great.

I picked the Monoprice B4's as my height speakers. 3 in normal orientation across the front, one top center placed normally as you look up at it and then the side heights rotated on their side. I feel like the side height channels, rotated and facing at about 45 degree angle down at the seating position, give the best dispersion across my one row of seating.

I have 4 kef Q150s for my atmos. They were on sale for $350/pr. I have them on their sides. I can put upright, upside down at an angle. It really doesn't matter.

I'm using the Polk ES10s for my Dolby Atmos speakers...I'm using a ceiling mount that lets me angle them so the tweeter is pointing down to my ears

    Sideways invites comb filtering.

I'm not doubting you, but what would be the reason? Because the reflection of the nearby surface is similar to the on-axis sound whereas the vertical off-axis response is not? I ask because maybe the same issue can be said for coaxial speakers also.

@@joentell Perhaps it's only with MTM speakers.

Would Beans fix the issues mentioned in the video?

It cannot fix issues with directivity as those are physical issues. It can help make the direct sound and the sound at the MLP better though.

I thinking of replacing my four pairs of elevations, for the new ultra elevations with bigger driver for better atmos

It will make a difference due to the bigger drivers. What are you running for your base layer?

By upgrading, you only get advantage (possible) of setting crossover at lower.
      The sensitivity is the same.
You are only paying for built quality and probably for lower distortion.
Doesn't necessary mean it can play louder or it plays cleaner (since it has bigger driver size or slightly bigger cabinet).
The power it requires will be the same too.
.Let's keep aside about the timbre matching as of now.
Unless you want to match the driver size to your base layer speakers then that's fine.

Quick question, isn't it true though that with elevation speaker you won't necessarily be able to angle the speaker towards the MLP. With a bookshelf mounted high on the wall you can angle towards the MLP, but with an elevation speaker, isn't the tweeter going to just be facing the general direction of the MLP but not necessarily pointed directly at the MLP?

In other words you need a ceiling higher than 8 feet.
