Look, I can get being upset about Barbey and Robin breaking it off later, but if there's one thing that HIMYM was always consistent about, it's that life is complicated. Sometime it sucks, sometimes you can have all the chemistry and feelings in the world and it still won't work out because of timing, or circumstances, or because of hundreds of other things. The ending was planned since the beginning, and there were plenty of hints that the mother was dead. The show tackled real life, and in real life, not everything always works out perfectly.
n8opot8oW I guess so. But in the end, it is clear that the showrunners seriously misjudged audiences willingness to accept an ending that subverted expectations so cruelly. This was one of my favourite shows, and now I hardly ever think about it. Too bad...

I'm Batman actually Hippies were the young people in the late 60's and 70's. They demonstrated against war, capitalism and social restraints. And many were on a search for spirituality. So people with similar values (and style) are sometimes also called Hippies.
"The finale was decent, cause that's what life is." No. Because it broke up every single promise they made while writing the show. Had they ended this thing right after the mother died, as Ted was talking to his children in a heartfelt memory, no one would have had anything to say about it and it would have been remembered fondly by everyone. Turning that entire story into "kids, i'm gonna do Robin now and here is why it's justified" is not only stupid but it does not make sense in the context of the show. They did not "subvert" our expectations, they just lied to us about the entire purpose of the show. They promised the viewers something, but it turns out they never meant to give us that. And that is why that show went from a rating killer, to an afterthought bitterly remembered by a lot of fans. Wnat a perfect finale for a show? Parks And Rec, Six Feet Under, Person Of Interest... A TV show is never "real life" and it shouldn't be. It cannot be. They tried to pull a swerve by giving us a hot dog instead of a pizza, but most people wanted that pizza. You liked it? Fine, you got every right to. But that doesn't mean it was good.
It's a little bit amazing how expertly they got us to care about an objectively terrible person. Like he spent twenty years of his life plotting to ruin one dude because his girlfriend was unfaithful and yet he's so fricken adorable.
Also, if you see criminal activity, you are obligated to report it otherwise you are treated as an accomplice. Plus, that dude was counting exactly on that! He would have sold Barney out!
@@MinimiMax I think they wanted to max out their evidence sometimes it takes years to arrest the big guys that have too much money look at Diddy it took 20 years
Great moment, too bad the finale undoes everything that all the seasons have been building up to. Seriously, in my opinion the biggest trolling experience and biggest upset in tv show history.
glizy. Cor This part is great, it shows the culmination of the growth of Robin and Barney's relationship. Then the ending throws all that out the window. aka the better these final season scenes between them, the worst it makes the ending.
Ikr. Yeah let's build up how compatible they are! Nah we want Ted and Robin to be together in spite of how different and terrible they are for each other so let's kill off the mother we've been hyping up for the last decade without showing it because it's too sad (as if we haven't already had a crap ton of other sad af moments as well as saying at one point in season 5 that the mother was actually still alive) and kill off any development we've had for any of the character besides Barney who got a daughter from his character regression moment that the others also had. Fuck this finale, everything was great up until that final episode
Watch the episode where Lily and Marshall threw a house warming party. That episode gives an idea of Himym as a whole. They string us along with a 'mystery'but it always turns out the mystery is boring and they Know the mystery is boring. The mother was the first mystery done right. Like an insecure bitch they didn't know how to handle it and threw it out the window.
+marcellXcatalyst To play devils advocate while the ending initially pissed me off i've kinda warmed up to it. Mainly because it does make sense for both characters and while the finale felt rushed I liked the fact that they didn't break up because they were incompatible or Barney or Robin cheated or something, it was just Robins career forced her to be on the road all the time and robins career has always been a major part of her character and that would make marriage difficult for anyone let alone two characters that really shouldn't get married (i mean in general not to each other). But in the end as Barney put it it wasn't a failed marriage it was a successful marriage that lasted how many years it did and I think its that line that sells it. I will say I did hate the ted and robin bit but it was clear since season one thats where the show was supposed to go I just don't think they expected they would last 9 seasons.
Trust me finding out Barney’s job was totally worth it! Now if only they did the same thing with Barney from the Flintstones. Oh and BEST REVENGE PLAN BARNEY!
katerinafaith and that would be unsatisfying. See the thing is, the premise of the show is that Ted has been telling his children this story the extra extra extra long way for at least weeks if not months. The only explanation of why he would be doing this way is as a thinly veiled way to ask his children if it's OK if he were to ask Aunt Robin out. The mother has to be dead and Aunt Robin divorced in order for that to work. If either of those hadn't of happened, Ted wouldn't be telling the story in the first place. Everyone like you seems to ignore this part. The ending had to be this way, nothing else explains why ted is taking months to tell his children this many details.
it could be just that he wanted to use this excuse to tell them about their lives, because he felt disconnected to his children and that they didn't understand him.. it did explain why certain details like the umbrella were that important and how many random stuff had to occur for them to get together
The whole point of the show was to make a good sitcom about a guy telling his kids how he met their mother. A show like this grows and changes, especially when it's gone on as long as HIMYM did. If Breaking Bad and Parks and Rec stuck to their scripts, Jesse and Andy would have been gone after season 1, yet the showrunners and writers decided to keep them on and the shows were all the richer for it. HIMYM spent its entire last season telling the viewers, and the kids by proxy, how perfect Robin and Barney were for each other. The final season also makes a point of showing Ted finally letting Robin go. They build up for seasons about how Tracy is actually Ted's absolute dream woman. When she finally comes on screen, they're perfect. Then in the last few minutes of the entire show, the rug gets pulled out from under the viewers and everything is reset like it never really happened. All that character development ends up not mattering. It's awful writing.
Anyone who's mad about Barney and Robin breaking up... keep in mind what just happened in this scene. He revealed his revenge plan that was started because him losing another woman, and he has been plotting this for the entirety of the show, including their wedding. Basically everything Robin knows about Barney is the result of this obsession with revenge an ex girlfriend.

I'd assume that if he was making 16 craploads a year, he put a considerable amount of that into savings accounts to the point where after pulling off his master plan he could just retire.
I expected the joke to be that Barney was completely lucid for the last two questions, and he was actually being super vulnerable for the last one, but then he would reveal to Ted (after Robin had left) that he was totally lying about the ring bearer thing and there _would_ be a bear at the wedding.

It’s been ages since i watched How I Met ur Mother. OMG It’s so damn nice and amazing. I love who upload this and i thank him/her alooottttttttttttt for reminding me of one of the best series eveeeerrrrrrrrr.
Barney’s commentary to their argument will always be amazing
"Back in my hippy days,"?
UT! Sans his past. He was a hippie
he used to be a nerdy hippy
He is still kind of a dork
So what is a hippy?
I'm Batman actually Hippies were the young people in the late 60's and 70's. They demonstrated against war, capitalism and social restraints. And many were on a search for spirituality. So people with similar values (and style) are sometimes also called Hippies.
"The finale was decent, cause that's what life is."
No.
Scrubs had a perfect season finale too! (Season 9 never happened)
True. The montage put a smile on my face.
I honestly liked the ending. It was always gonna be robin and ted. Marshal won the bet!
A TV show should be ALWAYS be based on thing that happens in life or should be really close, and yeah the finalle was not what it was suppouse to be
Disagree on Person of Interest.
''I got thrown out trying to strech a single into a double''... hahahhahaha
It's a little bit amazing how expertly they got us to care about an objectively terrible person. Like he spent twenty years of his life plotting to ruin one dude because his girlfriend was unfaithful and yet he's so fricken adorable.
Well, that dude was also a criminal!
Also, if you see criminal activity, you are obligated to report it otherwise you are treated as an accomplice. Plus, that dude was counting exactly on that! He would have sold Barney out!
@@stefanmakara373 The fact that the dude Barney wanted to ruin was a terrible person doesn't really make him any less petty in that situation.
As I begin watching this first seconds in I’m laughing my ass off cuz of his eyes and the way he’s talking when he’s drunk is right down Damn Funny !!
Ted heard this and still wanted Robin. Great friend.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ted is a total asshat🙄🙄🙄😂
When I first watched the finale I was kinda impressed how brave the writers are, but then I remember moments like this and I get so angry
"in one family, three" Barney is a fucking god
I like how he waves goodbye to the dove.
how i met your mother is the best show to ever exist
After friends
After a whole season of pre wedding moments in just 2 days, they split up in the end...😑 I was so depressed.
Seeing the girl you love saying i love you to your best friend. Isn't something that all people can handle
So the entire time he worked at that job. He was also working with the federal government? That’s one wierd job
He did it for quite many years too. You'd think they would have something solid a little bit sooner.
@StormRevolutionGaming At this point they most have enough evidens to shut the whole Bank
@Astrid Karlsson Revenge was his payment
@@MinimiMax I think they wanted to max out their evidence sometimes it takes years to arrest the big guys that have too much money look at Diddy it took 20 years
Double agent man!!😂👍👍
Great moment, too bad the finale undoes everything that all the seasons have been building up to. Seriously, in my opinion the biggest trolling experience and biggest upset in tv show history.
this scene saved season 9
And this is why the finale sucked so hard.
marcellXcatalyst well, this part is good
The fact that Barney waves to the dove is adorable
top-notch acting by Mr. Harris
the last minute was the best in my opinion
And the last episode is the worst in my opinion
I'm so sorry they cancelled the show,it ad such potential and it was the only time I could sit still
I feel like this is the key to happiness. Find the one and have a grand scheme for vengence going on. :)
the Barney theme song makes that scene.

Not the hero we deserved but the hero we needed
Alternate title of the video should be "PLEASE explained"
Robin and Barney are about to get married and she still doesn't know what he does for a living hahaha
They should have ended up together.
If they stayed together, then how could ted get with robin? You know that was the whole point of the show right?
+cbernier3 there is an alternate ending which ends when Ted met with the mother and leaves the rest to the audience.
katerinafaith and that would be unsatisfying.
Her last question asked ring bearer not asking to clarify if it’s an actual animal therefore he answered honestly.
2:03 😂😂 when your teacher dismisses class but just about remembers to give homework 📚
This show is depressing when you think about it
2:29 is the best back and forth I've ever heard!
"What am I? A prostitute?" "You are not a prostitute." "No. A prostitute would've been cheaper." "Depends on the prostitute."
Someone get Charlie Sheen on the phone!!!
Alan: "..please hold, CHARLIE YOUR EXPERTISE ON PROSTITUTES IS NEEDED"
Omg this scene is so funny , I can’t stop laughing, Barney is so funny, he made the show memorable and this is just one example of that
That speech about robin was great and real
“What did you do to my Mom?” Has got me crying 😭 😭
Maybe Maria Hill went undercover as Robin to keep an eye on Barney to see if he was a threat or not
Brandon Moulder maybe
Damn, and here I was expecting it to end with Barney psyching them out! He’s always 12 steps ahead
0:29 I don't understand baseball terms, what dies it mean?
It means he tried for more than a kiss and got rejected
"You're arguing about Robin's wealth when you really should be asking me embarrassing questions."
My favourite show of all time, and the last episode is my least favourite thing filmed on TV ever, and ive watched clips where terrorist hold hostages. Such a terrible idea for a finale, plus awfuly executed just cant happen in a TV show of such quality before that episode. A baloon so inlfated to the max after all those seasons of high quality storytelling and fun, should ve ended in explosion of quality in the finale, instead, such hiddeous finale just deflated the baloon, and created THE biggest dissapointment in TV show history. Nuff said
Agent Hill & friends interrogates the Celestial Toymaker😂😂😂
Shouldn't Barney have lost his job? That's never brought up.
I'd assume that if he was making 16 craploads a year, he put a considerable amount of that into savings accounts to the point where after pulling off his master plan he could just retire.
n8opot8oW hmm, if that were true, what bothered him about travelling for her work, he's got nothing else to do
Maybe, like Lily, he just loves New York and doesn't want to leave
I mean, just because his boss got arrested doesn't mean that he gets arrested, especially since the bank is still a corporation.
Kisato Rimuru he'd he fired dummy.
I like how they protected the trick. Because NPH is an actual magic society member.
Hold up... since Barney told the secret behind the doves, with the dehydrated ones from China thing. Didn't that break the Magician's code??
If the company is embezzling 5000 craploads, Barney being a whistleblower is entitled to get a chunk of those craploads
Did Neil Patrick Harris just reveal how magic dovea work? Or did he say that just to give an answer
I expected the joke to be that Barney was completely lucid for the last two questions, and he was actually being super vulnerable for the last one, but then he would reveal to Ted (after Robin had left) that he was totally lying about the ring bearer thing and there _would_ be a bear at the wedding.
7:10 to 7:35 one of the most badass moments I've witnessed in Television history!
Especially if you know the background story!
it's literally the lamest one .. in seinfeld there is like 10 better than this ..not to mention other shows like every episode of breaking bad LOL
4:09 Barney is a corporate scapegoat.
This scene was wait for it................
LEGENDARY💯💯💯💯😂
I am probably the only person on the planet who loved the way they ended this series. I totally love Barney, and he is being so heartfelt and honest right now, but Robin and Barney were never going to last as a couple, and that’s okay.
I loved the ending as well, not the crappy sappy unrealistic ending. It was realistic and really... ugh I cant describe it, it was just really... yeah
That is okay but what wasn t okay was the writers throwing Barney's character development off a motherfucking cliff
Thank you!
I don’t understand why people can’t enjoy a relationship just because it didn’t last.
