To me this has the greatest verse in any love song ever written. The part that goes"I know someday you'll have a beautiful life I know you'll be a star in somebody else's sky but why can't it be mine "when this came out I was in college and just broke up with my girlfriend of 7 years and could hardly listen to this song. One of the greatest ever in my opinion.
Lived in Seattle in the 1980s and 90s. Had the time of my life seeing such incredible talent. So many musicians came to town to see what the buzz was about. Great exposure to great music! ❤️
Wow, what a great time that must have been! I was sat in Manchester wishing that I was there too although we had a pretty good music scene around that time too.
The end of that song gives me the chills every time, seeing him basically rock himself to attempt to comfort himself as he puts himself back in the mindset of when he wrote this song, of the heartbreak and misery that it causes in him. I, for one, believe Eddie Vedder to be probably the best songwriter of our generation. I don’t know if I’ve ever heard a breakup song with the imagery and pain that this evokes in quite so vivid detail. All the kids are playing and laughing, why am I so upset at the world? His hands cradle the broken glass of the relationship that was everything to him but obviously ended in anger and tears but also he desperately wants to put it back together, I just imagine someone holding the pieces of a broken picture frame in their living room, on their knees, frantically trying to fix it but realizing it will never be fixable and letting the emotion overwhelm them. The idea of the sun dropping away when things take a turn for the worst. It’s all just so vivid and so broken and you can see it written across his face as he delivers it, almost driving him to madness just to relive it as he sings. Unreal.
He’s one of the most emotive singers I’ve seen. The picture he paints is so visceral that you’re absorbed into it. Most can identify with the sun dropping away or the star in somebody else’s sky cos we’ve all been in that situation. This is one of his best performances.
I subscribed to your channel after 10 seconds of hearing this song because you guys have perfect loud but clear audio.Almost all music reaction channels can't get it right and you guy got it spot on!!
@Papa B I didn't need to say it , I just said it as it's the truth, what's sad is people like you who think they are better than everyone so use phrases like 'how sad' ...what ever makes you feel sane dude.
Thanks Richard, i agree it is! Jeremy would be a good one but I’ve seen the video. I’ll have to check if Carrie has. If not then I’ll add it to our requests list.
You’re definitely right on that one- seems like for every ‘top something 90’s countdown’ it’s always at number 1! We’re pretty well versed in Nirvana- and then big Foo Fighters fans too 👍🏼
Yes you’re right, it just hit the zeitgeist and had crossover appeal. It’s a good song and the video was pitch perfect and helped massively in what the song became. Kurt himself said he was just trying to rip off The Pixies
I've heard that Eddie didn't want to sing this song as part of this performance due to how personal it was, but his friends said it was a great song and had to do it and that they would cheer him on during it to show he's not alone, and that's the whistles you hear towards the later part of the song. I also heard he had a cold too.
You know why he had that great at 3:34 on the time-line is where he flubbed the so g you can here Stone Gossard says " not the right song " and I thi k that triggered Eddie to sing full force or put of pissed off energy!! A d he had the flu I believe I hope that helped a little?❤
I get that it looks there are two people that have no idea what they actually watching by the reactions. Hopefully, they will watch several more times😁
Thanks for the request. I missed candlebox at the time but recently read ‘everybody loves our town’ by Mark Yarm and they feature in a few chapters of that. Well worth a read btw! Have a good one yourself!
One of their best songs for me! I don't know which I prefer but watching the live version does let you see the emotion and anguish that he's putting into it.
nah, doesn't add up at all.... this was recorded in 1992, so the song had to have been written earlier than that and his divorce was in 2000.... i wonder who is perpetuating this nonsense
@@stefanforrer2573 you are correct at the time mismatch... I think the confusion is that he was going out since 1983 with the musician Beth Liebling (co-founder of Hovercraft) and they broke up? (never stated anywhere that I can find) but everyone assumes that "she" was the subject of the song... of course he and Liebling actually married in 94 then divorced in 2000... strangely enough when singing this song after that Eddie changed his improvised ending to "we weren't meant to be together" in later performances... make of it what you will unless Eddie is willing to say no one will ever really know...
Carrie's favourite band growing up was Bon Jovi so she's already very well versed. I only know the hits so maybe we could switch roles a bit and I could react to them.

I totally agree! I'd say that once the media picked it up, the term 'grunge' went from describing a particular sound to something else, it became a catch word for bands of a certain style from that area and even beyond who shared some musical similarities but in reality they were all very different. I guess the wave of bands that followed were happy to be described as grunge or at least were being pushed as that because you knew you'd sell records off the back of it and so we ended up with a lot of disassociated or very average/terrible bands being described as grunge. And just when you thought it couldn't get any worse.... we got post grunge! 🤦All the tropes and none of the talent
Ooh! We use it to mean a bit strange or unsettled, I do like finding out things like this though, really interesting how we shift the language across countries - and easy to say the wrong thing sometimes 😊 Carrie
Our first Tool request came yesterday. We knew it was coming and we’ll get there. We already know forty six and two very well but any other suggestions?

20 jears after MTV unplugged. I'm crying.

The pain in his voice is palpable! There’s not too many vocalist that can reach those emotions in their voice. In my opinion at least!
Her eye roll on the “that’s all” was classic
This song 😢❤relates to any lost loved one.....just beautifully chilling

As awesome as this performance is, I really like the album version. It's a masterpiece!

Yes especially at the end when he says "We belong together". That gets me every time
He wrote this after his divorce from what I’ve read. He said this song was release.
he's releasing a whole lot, it clearly hit him hard!
nah, doesn't add up at all.... this was recorded in 1992, so the song had to have been written earlier than that and his divorce was in 2000.... i wonder who is perpetuating this nonsense

well, bon jovi is pop, so not much of stretch that she liked his music back in the day 😜
When you're used to listening to Take That, Bon Jovi probably sounds quite heavy! 🤣
Eddies passion cmon man
Incredible, he puts it all out there!
You both probably have listened to Bush already, but if you haven't it might be a fun one to react to... Like Glycerine, Come Down, or Machinehead?
I know Bush pretty well but Carrie doesn’t so I’ll add it to the requests list, cheers!
React to some Jovi, but the unplayed songs like blood on blood or stuff off 7800 degrees Fahrenheit. Even some of Richie’s solo stuff

jeff buckley next, please ...
I love Jeff Buckley, I'll pick something Carrie hasn't heard, she'll love him too I'm sure!
