Very clean Maxima! I was 18 years old when this car was new and the best thing I loved about it was it had the 300ZX engine. When Toyota and Mazda had 4 cylinders, having a V6 sports car engine in a sedan was a big deal in 1986. I've had mine for 4 years and it not as clean, but everything still works. Except the cassette deck ha. Well done!

My friend's mom bought a grey over silver Maxima GL back in 1985. It looked exactly like this one except she had cloth seats and didn't have the digital gauge package. Wonderful riding car. I loved looking out of the moonroof from the back seat and watching the eq lights move back and forth. Everytime I hear the Pointer Sisters I think about riding in this car. She also used to love riding with the windows down and roof open. It certainly shaped my ideal driving experience. Wonderful mid-eighties memories! Thanks for posting.

This is one of my favorite cars of all time. My aunt had this exact car brand new in 1986, with the digital gauges and leather! It was that same two-tone grey over silver color as well. My brothers and I loved riding in it. Her husband had the sport model with fabric sport seats, a manual transmission, and front and rear spoilers. His was graphite over beige. The design has aged nicely!

This is wild. My dad had one of these forever and drove it 350k miles. Kids always made fun of it for how old and ugly it was. It was the car I learned how to drive on. When he sold it, he had to practically give it away. I think he got $1k for it. Now people are treating them like classic cars. Amazing how things change

I had an ‘87 GXE model in blue and my uncle had a ‘87 SE with a small deck lid spoiler. My ‘87 model had those motorized front seatbelts and rear seatbelts are three point shoulder and then later the ‘88 had some sonar suspension. The 3.0L made about 151hp if I recall.
The only other car that I liked more was the Toyota Cressida of the same era with a DOHC inline-6.

Nice! My best friend had one brand new back in 1986. The color was called Wine with a gray cloth interior, it had 160hp, and cost $14000, and $16000 with tax. That particular model would’ve stickered close to $16000 with the dash and leather options. I still remember going to pick the colors and options like it was yesterday. He took delivery of it in Oct 1985, and had one of the first 1986 Maximas on the street. Also, 1986 was the first year that the third brake light was mandatory, 1985 models didn’t have one. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

Parents had an 86 Maxima when around when I was a kid all the way up to high school. I didn’t appreciate it as much back then since I was young, but man it makes me sad knowing it was donated off to that cash-for-clunkers program back in like 2010 or something. It was a fully functional car with no major damage and og paint still in tact. I think it was just leaking power steering fluid…so sad knowing it was probably sent to the yard to be destroyed. This vid kind of made me sad lol.
