I never heard Brenda 's or elvis rendition of this song ......Till say 20 years with elvis .And truthfully can't remember Hearing Brenda's original rendition .The first time I heard this version was Willie Nelson 's and that was in the late seventies .And the reasons was my brother had his stardust album .i must admit .I thought willies was the best .but NOW I have a leaning towards Presley being the best .maybe ? It's the production quality I think elvis 's is smoother . But that's not taking away willies and Brenda 's great versions . 👍

all have different arrangements, as a Elvis fan i will always go to that one, but Brenda sang it first and her version is a very nice one, as for willies version to me its a completely different song even though it isn't, its just country and its a song i can sing along to on karaoke and the pet shop boys did a great version completely different to these ones. Its just a beautiful song and its great other artists sang it .
I have to say, being not the biggest fan of Willie. His gift of talent can not be taken lightly. Brenda and Elvis have the greatest voices. But Willie "knew" to sing a slower version of this melody, which brought this song to life. And deserving of all its merit for recognition, with Willie's true creative musical genius among the greats.
