    Love how the definition of subcompact & compact have changed over the last 15-20 years. Some compacts are now called subcompacts & some mid-sized are now called compacts. I compared everything in this segment back in 2022 & determined for myself that the Mazda CX-30 was easily the #1 best small crossover in its size/price segment. I have had my 2022 CX-30 CE AWD for about one year now, and zero build quality issues or problems to report.

      Yes, as European I watch this and I'm wondering, how cars that are 10 inches longer then VW Golf or Toyota Corolla can be called sub-compact. Here sub-compact SUV are usually 160-165 inch long and you can find even smaller crossovers like Toyota Aygo X which is just 145 inch long.

    Thanks again for another great Top 5 Review!!! My partner and I got a CX-30 last year and it is WONDERFUL!! It is smaller but it is just the two of us so the back seat is rarely used. I think of it more like a BMW X2 type of sub compact crossover. It is definitely more sporty than the rest and with this turbo it is really fun to drive. I think the VW seems cool also, but the interior of the Mazda is so much more luxurious! What happened when VW had interiors like that???

      I'd agree but for two things. I noticed the older CX-30s are quiet but two 2024 models I recently test drove had rattles in the overhead somewhere. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Also, I am 6'1" tall guy with a thicc booty and the lower part of the seat's bolsters stick me in the thighs bad, no matter how I try to tilt the seat.

Having the extra large navigation is not that big a deal since we use android auto for everything most times. My first crossover and cannot imagine going back to something smaller. Its great for 2 plus gear. If you have a bigger family with more stuff, you may want to pay attention to storage space.

    I had owned two Subaru Foresters in the past, so I thought I'd gravitate toward the Crosstrek. However, I ended up with a Mazda CX-30, and I just love to drive this car. The interior just looks so much nicer than what I had been used to. Size is a big factor so I'm glad for this subcompact category of vehicles (condo garage is tight). I would be very interested if Mazda comes out with a hybrid CX-30.

      So funny I test drove both of those having driven Mazda 3’s for over 8 years! The CX-30 had LESS space than my 3 hatchback so I went with the Crosstrek. It didn’t take much convincing because I was specifically going for space upgrade adding a new member of the fam. However the interior of mazdas is super cushy and feels quality, and I’ll miss the wheel heating amenity. It’s a matter of preference for lifestyle, do you want something sportier/roadster feeling? Then the Mazda. But the Crosstrek for adventure and space. The all wheel drive for the Crosstrek definitely took the cake, my Mazdas didn’t handle the same. 😊

    2021 Seltos owner (picked up in Nov 20)...SX with the turbo and DCT. 43k miles, no repair work at all. Even same tires! Great little car. Highway trips at 80mpg, frequent city driving (DC, Balt, Philly), hilly back country roads - easily handles all. NO CVT. Tried the Crosstrek back then, that busy interior, uncomfy seating (I'm 6ft 1 and 230lbs), and the dead dead dead steering turned me away. I know many don't like the DCT. I love it as it reminds me of my manual driving days a little. It eventually adapts to your driving style, but I get why some don't like it. Neighbor's Taos ('23...) has been sent back to the shop 3X in 8 months. NOPE. It's the same old VW problems. Just wanted to give a longer term report on the Seltos. The only thing that I’m not loving is the electrics can get glitchy , and the front seat passenger is not electric 🙃 but a manual. Overall great gas mileage, if I had one less child I would feel the space was perfect lol (truck does for a double stroller) overall look is sporty and fun. Since you two can't really tell, yet, how new(2023) models will actually hold up/be reliable years after purchase, it would be interesting to do a segment on past models. Let's say for example, the 5 best(engine life, durability, maintenance...) sub compact suvs from 2017. I'd be curious which have held up, which have under performed and which seem most reliable after 5 years. Customer feedback, documented issues, recalls... Taking a look back at how a certain vehicle brand or model has done in prior years before buying a new one can be quite helpful when deciding to purchase. Maybe you guys have already done this and I just haven't seen it. If so, I apologize. Just thought it would be valuable insight for viewers/car buyers to see and learn from. Thanks for the segment.

    • @bwillan
      @bwillan ปีที่แล้ว

      It would be hard for car reviewers to do that. They get to evaluate brand new cars as they are released to put out information to the public. It's not like they buy the cars they review and keep a fleet of them for long term testing and review.

    • @Chubbydippin
      @Chubbydippin ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bwillan In no way did I entertain the thought that they bought and kept each and every car they've reviewed. Just seems you'd have more than just initial opinions. Rather, compiled data and track records from owner experiences and hands on use by them. It would definitely be a different format to look back and reveal how vehicles have done 5 or so years down the road as compared to what they normally do. They wouldn't need to even test drive models. More so, take a look back at which models have held up and which haven't. What they do is valuable and informative for new car buyers. But unforeseen problems do arise occasionally and it would be interesting to hear their candid breakdown of which models "broke down" for the used car market and it's buyers too. Especially when it comes to a new model release or a new generation of a existing vehicle that has sold well. Not a complaint about what they currently do. Maybe just wishful thinking.

    I just bought the Mazda CX-30 and have previously owned two VW Golfs. I test drove the VW Taos and Subaru Crosstrek before landing on the Mazda CX-30. I couldn’t get over all the cheap plastic interior of the Taos and the jerky ride. The Crosstrek was great in every way but I wasn’t as impressed with the interior look and feel. The seats were snug but not as comfy as I’d expect it to be and the car overall felt very utilitarian, like a workhorse, and less of a fun car to ride. I went with the CX-30 for the more luxury and high end interior design along with the minimalist dash-I don’t like a huge screen and too many gadgets in my vehicle. It’s a beautifully designed car inside and outside. It also had the highest horsepower at 186 compared to the others. The ride was smooth; cabin noise was silent; and handling was top notch well above all the others in its class! My only complaints about the CX-30 are 1) Too many blind spots and 2) the gas tank is too small-I’m always filling up gas, which is a complaint I read about from other reviewers before I made the purchase. It’s still worth it!

In Malaysia, Toyota provides a 5-year warranty with unlimited mileage. And also for the hybrid spec, an 8-year warranty is given for the battery.

    I checked out a new 2024 Hyundai Kona with that same screen as the Kia Seltos, for the gauges and infotainment. In low morning or afternoon sun, you can't see those screens for beans... Seriously, they didn't put some kind of hood around them to help keep the sun out and even with them on full bright they suck on bright days. Live long analogue gauges...

    Very accurate description on the "road noise" issue with the Toyota Corolla Cross. After road test comparison with the Seltos, I went for the Kia model. So smooth and quiet drive. Loaded with safety and tech features which other brands only give for their top models. Huge cargo space also ticked the box for me. Longer warranty is the icing. The HR-V? Honda's design group could have done a better job

Like everyone else 95% of our driving is local, but one thing not really covered in your review, is which model is most comfortable over a longer drive? I bought a 2021 Subaru CrossTrek Outdoor; very happy with it except for the cost of regular maintenance (every 6000 miles or 6 months irrespective of mileage); for my first 2 years I've being doing less than 6000 miles every 6 months. I traded in a 2016 Toyota AWD Rav4. Earlier this year my wife wanted a new car and we were leaning towards a 2023 AWD Toyota Cross (we were trading in a 2015 Corolla sedan), Mazda CX-30, or Nissan Qashqai. We ended up with the Nissan AWD Qashqai; she didn't like the ride of the Corolla Cross (and it would have taken over 12 months to get one!) or the Mazda CX-30 (she found the ride harsh).
