I make no apology that it was an advert that introduced me to the band but I’m glad it did and I must hear more... excellent simple no-nonsense music. cheers
this video specifically was the first time i'd ever heard ben's music, and honestly, i feel so fuckin blessed to have stumbled upon it back then. for whatever reason, the big thing that had stuck in my brain when i listened to this was the ambulance sirens in the distance at 3:10 and 4:15??? i dont know why _that_ was what stuck, but everytime i hear it i feel very nostalgic and comforted and it's what i always think back to whenever i listen to always gold
i never really,,,, listened to his other songs until... very recently honestly but i sure am glad i did. and i was very pleasantly surprised when i learned ben was gay; tbh i was already very highkey inspired by him and his music to begin with but that knowledge just made This Young Local Lesbian feel 1000000x more inspired. just 1000/10 honestly all around
I can't believe it's been nearly 7 years since we shot this. I'm so glad it was a route for you to find this band! We also really loved the background noise in this video. Shot in an open pub in the middle of the day.
We were tight knit boys Brothers in more then name You would kill for me And knew that I'd do the same And it cut me sharp Hearing you'd gone away But everything goes away Yeah everything goes away But I'm going to be here until I'm nothing But bones in the ground And I was there, when you grew restless Left in the dead of night And I was there, when three months later You were standing in the door all beat and tired And I stepped aside Everything goes away Yeah everything goes away But I'm gonna be here until I'm nothing But bones in the ground So quiet down We were opposites at birth I was steady as a hammer No one worried 'cause they knew just where I'd be And they said you were the crooked kind And that you'd never have no worth But you were always gold to me And back when we were kids We swore we knew the future And our words would take us half way 'round the world But I never left this town And you never saw New York And we ain't ever cross the sea But I am fine with where I am now This home is home, and all that I need But for you, this place is shame But you can blame me when there's no one left to blame Oh I don't mind All my life I've never known where you've been There were holes in you The kind that I could not mend And I heard you say Right when you left that day Does everything go away? Yeah, everything goes away. But I'm going to be here 'til forever So just call when you're around.
Look on the bright side-when Ben comes to play shows wherever you or I happen to live, we can see him play in a small club for like $15 and maybe meet him after the show and shake his hand and tell him he's cool. Justin Bieber fans get to pay $120 to sit hundreds of feet away from him in a crappy stadium and listen to unoriginal, boring music.

We were tight knit boys
Brothers in more then name
You would kill for me
And knew that I'd do the same
And it cut me sharp
Hearing you'd gone away
But everything goes away
Yeah everything goes away
But I'm going to be here until I'm nothing
But bones in the ground
And I was there, when you grew restless
Left in the dead of night
And I was there, when three months later
You were standing in the door all beat and tired
And I stepped aside
Everything goes away
Yeah everything goes away
But I'm gonna be here until I'm nothing
But bones in the ground
So quiet down
We were opposites at birth
I was steady as a hammer
No one worried 'cause they knew just where I'd be
And they said you were the crooked kind
And that you'd never have no worth
But you were always gold to me
And back when we were kids
We swore we knew the future
And our words would take us half way 'round the world
But I never left this town
And you never saw New York
And we ain't ever cross the sea
But I am fine with where I am now
This home is home, and all that I need
But for you, this place is shame
But you can blame me when there's no one left to blame
Oh I don't mind
All my life
I've never known where you've been
There were holes in you
The kind that I could not mend
And I heard you say
Right when you left that day
Does everything go away?
Yeah, everything goes away.
But I'm going to be here 'til forever
So just call when you're around.

I agree with the disembodied voice. The sirens kind of added beautifully to the tone of the song. Which itself was fantastic.
fantastic lyrics...
