  • This is a nice example of how homes can sit out in the paddocks for decades and not be seen or even noticed. This one is on a farm near my home town in Victoria. I got the permission of the owners to walk out and explore this. It was built in next to the former stone and brick home that was ruined when fires swept through the area in 1944. The owner was a young child back then and has toys and school books still inside along with other cool old things that were left in there when they moved just 2 km`s away 50 years ago. In these areas a lot of homes sit out in the paddocks just decaying naturally. I find them really intriguing. :-)

    How does a house,obviously owned by someone,go years without anyone tending to it,left just to rot? Makes you really curious about the stories behind these old,abandoned houses. Great find,and thanks for sharing!!

      Hi lovelyj75 Well the owners of this farm are a brother and sister who are now both in their early 70`s, they also have another home about 2 km West of this and on in the small township. They were raised in this one and it was built in 1944 after fires swept through and wiped out the existing old stone and brick homes. Basically when they became adults they moved out and left this one to the elements and sheep and cattle. This happens quite a lot on farms when the newer homesteads are built. Glad you like this one and thanks for watching :-)

    P. I actually found this explore utterly depressing, may I suggest you found it cool cos it was near your home in Colac, the little toys in drawer - were amazing, the cupie doll, the english guard, the railway cars etc oh and your passion - the tin box, a find! Loved the suspenders hanging in male wardrobe. The bathroom must have been lovely and sunny once upon a time and the art deco hardware and lighting- mmmm💓. It reminded me of such hard times on the land, scraping together a living, no rain for years, harvests fail, trying so valiantly to bring home the harvest - purchase seed for next planting, school books, food, drapery for clothes etc - such a hard hard time and they worked so bloody hard, breaks my heart P.😥💔

    Literally a bath room. A bath in a room. Were there any other facilities? Loved seeing the old childhood treasures tucked away in the draw. Thankyou. No doubt they were played with over & over. Kids back then didn't have half so many toys, back in the 50s or 60s. Just a few.

    I absolutely love all these old videos of abandoned places, especially all the paperwork and things with dates on them they just amaze me. When my daughter and son-in-law had a room built on to their house we found old newspapers stuffed in the walls from 1956. That's when the house was built originally. We all signed the new wood and left dated paperwork in the new walls and also signed our initials with the dates. Then someday when this house is torn down maybe people will see all our things and messages we left them. It was about 8 years ago when we did this. Also put my granddaughters handprints, date and her name in the new concrete driveway

    I am thinking when the older style buildings became obsolete (weather board) and the elderly residents died or went into care; that's when we see abandoned properties with everything still in it's functional place. 'Like walking back in time' experience. That cupboard you were looking at a few videos back had items totally from the seventies which didn't fit with the contemporary inhabitants WTF? Keep an eye out for a small bottle of mercurochrome. Remember that stuff?

    Isn't it neat the way the pictures hanging on the walls survive so well?
    You can tell that this house hasn't been vandalized- its just a bit of a mess (!) from the wind, birds and dust that have disturbed the interior over the last half century, but that's what happens when a window pane breaks or a door swings open.
    That cabinet in the bathroom was a bit of a mystery --until right above it is the trap into the rafters-- I wonder if someone had once moved it to use as a ladder to take a peek up in there?
    I really liked that built-in cooking range-- now that's OLD.
    Thanks for posting this..... :)

      Urbex Indigo I know it's easy to say 'I'd look more if not there, i know its not possible to look througj EVERYTHING.. but i do love to prowl around through old stuff. I have plenty to go through of my own now, i'm moving after my husband passed away (2 yrs ago) theres stuff packed away for last 20 years in the basement. He was a hoarder & also had a garage full of stuff. Our son & his wife already cleaned it out.
      Thanks for the reply.

      I just did one yesterday and I took my time going through and capturing it better on video. More cool vintage stuff I think you will like! :-) Sorry to hear about ya hubby. My mother is a hoarder and she says she thinks it stems from her childhood of not having much so she holds on to things now because they were few and far between back then. :-)

      Urbex Indigo Yeah, shes prob right. My hubby grew up poor, i think thats why he wanted to keep everything. He'd take anytjing the neighbors or friends were giving away. I grew up on a big farm in Kentucky(US) big family, 6 kids. But my Dad also worked another job besides farming, on the County road dept. Drove a road grader so we always at least had plenty of food, grew everything. Def not rich but better off than my hubby, he said they rarely had meat, something we ALWAYS had because we raised hogs & cattle & slaughtered in the Fall.
      Sorry for the long post, got carried away..lol
      But i think i understand what your mom says.
      Take care & be safe..

      Hey Irish Whisky 77 thanks for the kind words and support! :-) Well I did my first official youtube explore video 6 months ago. I sort of know a bit about video editing/cameras and that stuff so that helped putting them together. I had been exploring old sheds and home as a kid and teenager back in the country but I never knew until recently that there is a massive genre of Urban exploration out there! I just though I was a bit of a loner doing this stuff but it turns out i`m not! Hahaha. So I thought wow I may as well film them as I go like others are doing. Cheers from Australia mate.

    • @paulanull8731
      @paulanull8731 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Evelyn A Why they don't remove and save the hardware and cupboards etc. bothers me. They are so fantastic in just about all the homes you explore. So worth saving for restoration work and when building new homes that need a touch of history. I think I would go back to the owners and ask if I could rescue a few pieces for them and ask to keep a few items for myself. The train set pieces, marble and all the pictures that can be saved with frames. Seems like such a waist.

    • @Dontwantahandle0
      @Dontwantahandle0 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely agree, it is our wasteful societies that dictates letting things go to ruin, but if one goes to a antique shop and tries to buy these items, they are priced way to high for most people to afford. I say these things need to be rescued and given a new lease on life. I am torn about the abandoned motto, I don't see how it should apply in all cases.

    • @urbexindigo5164

      Hi Ashlea :-) Well there was an original stone and brick home here and it was burnt in 1944 in the fires so the family built this weather board home right after and the children who are now in their late 70`s still own this but live in the nearby town now. This is there farm land still. They moved out in the 60`s and it has sat like this since. Cheers for watching :-)

    Dear Urbex, where are your gloves, young man? 🧤🧤🧤 The thing that’s fascinating is that even though the house is super grungy on the inside, I didn’t see what appeared to be a lot of actual structural damage inside. Some cracks in the walls, etc. but given the age and total neglect, must have been quite a sturdy little place in it’s day. Great video. Thanks!

    • @urbexindigo5164
      @urbexindigo5164  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Sedora! Haha yep I forgot my gloves again on this one! :-) This one was built in 1944 after fires destroyed the original stone and brick house which were the ruins you saw. The owners of this which are brother and sister moved out in the early 70`s to another house about 2 km west of this one. It has sat here since then :-)

      This is back near my home town in Victoria. The owners are brother and sister who lived here until the early 70`s then moved about 2 km up the road. This house was built in 1945 after fire destroyed the old brick one which was the ruins in this video. I am not sure if they are aware of what is left inside, probably have forgotten about it. They just closed up it after the cows started getting inside once they moved out all those years ago.
