Came out looking real good 👍. If you are worried about that corrugated soaking up paint or your wash hit it with Mod Podge first that will stop it and make it tough too.
Exactly this. In my builds, I hit everything with a thin coat of Mod Podge with a tiny amount of black paint in it so that it comes out like a grey coating that dries and acts as both texture and makes paper products hard and durable.

Good tip on the peeling. I did some dry and the stuck on paper bits are kinda ok for a built in weathering look but I think I prefer the "clean" looking way you did it. It's lot of extra work peeling those off if you don't do the wet method.
Yeah the dry-peel would work good for certain situations, a swamp, or an old cob-webby look or some such. Not great for a desert wasteland. Thanks for the input!
Knowing that water trick is really helpful. I wonder what a layer of mod podge to seal the cardboard before painting would do to help the absorbency problem.
