  • Canción Triste (Rumba Flamenco Guitar Music)
It always surprises me how, after I finish writing a song, it goes on to live a life of its own. Often that life is more interesting than my own.
I wrote this song in 1997 for my album "Vertigo". The original version had Ofra Harnoy's beautiful cello playing on it. Over the years other guitarists have begun to cover the song, reinterpreting it in their own ways, bringing their own styles to it. For a composer like me there is no higher praise than that.
This week I revisited the song myself. Here is my new take on Canción Triste. If you've heard a cover of it you like, please paste a link in the comments below. I'd love to see where other musicians have taken it.
    Thanks for watching.

Little did I know when I wrote my reflections on Broken Moon a month ago I would be re-reading it now with an expanded sense of clarity. My BF passed away last night and this date was my wedding anniversary ( of my husband who had passed). So today when the sun rose it was indeed the beginning of a new day in a different way.
The song Canción Triste I heard recently posed the visual of now slow dancing alone with sweet memories, empty arms and in step and time with my shadow.
I don't share this seeking sympathy or pity. Life is a melody in respect to its rhythms of highs and lows. It's how we choose to interpret, move with in it and navigate the tempo that impacts our way forward.

@Cinnamint Thank you your kind words. It's been a year this month since his passing. Your message was both timely and heartfelt. Thank you!
I wrote the below some time back and it remains true. I have much still to learn as do we all.
      One Season of Many
Loss is but one season of many in life.
Singularly or in multiples it has no preference or predictability of timing, place or person and spares its wrath on no one.
Eclipsed by the shadow, living does not end in the veil.
It stands still for a time in the void until a nudge comes from within bringing strength, perspective and courage to move forward.
Breathe in and something unexplainable and unexpected occurs, an awakening as living pours back into life.
Unfamiliar in many ways there is beauty within it waiting to be explored.
Each moment forged tempers the core and in resilience makes a stronger, better and wiser person than before.
Loss is but one season of many in life. None can escape it yet all can learn from it.
      A Widow’s Path
A widow’s path she walks alone
Each step she takes leads her far from home
A place once was is no more
      Future uncertain on distant shores
The sun rises, the sun sets
Her beloved gone, holding no regrets
      Except the future not shared
With her loved one not spared
A widow’s path she walks alone
Each step she takes leads her far from home

1998, 28 years old and this song blew me away. ( I still have my cd actually.) The cello in the original song inspired me to take lessons, but it months later I decided the cello just wasn’t my instrument. Fast forward 15 years I realized the guitar was the one for me. I’ve always known you were amazing, but now I appreciate your gift even more.
So thankful I found this video and you are well after all these years.
You still make me happy to be sad, Jesse! 😉 Thank you for the beautiful music.

This is the tune that introduced us to Jesse's music. This lovely piece came onto the speakers after the finish of live Flamenco music and dancing at a small restaurant in Marbella, Spain. Had to find out who this was. It started the searches. Hooked ever since. Timeless music for sure. Love it.

@Jesse Cook I'm sitting here at the table, feet up, looking at the green and listening. It's not just your music. It and your wonderfull films are mastery. It's the moment you hold inside. Listens. Feels. Remind. That moment when you feel your own heart. Feel life. The moment the world stops. And you perceive the beauty, the uniqueness of the moment, the wonder of your own being and the wonder of the world. Your music does all of that. It stop the world. For a moment. Thank you, Jesse ❤️

Many years ago I discovered Jesse with this song. Ophra Harnoy I'm missing though. I had it running on repeat for about 2 hours on my way home, like a dialog , after a meeting that forced me to make a decission, music is a language, this piece gave me hope and encouraged me to adopt my grandchildren.

@@JesseCookOfficial It’s ok. :) It was 17 years ago. I’m married with children now so it was for the best but it was one of those relationships that started from the very first sight we caught of each other and it felt magical. He needed to make a choice and he did, but it broke my heart at the time. This song still affects me so much but it’s not for mourning what could have been anymore....now it reminds me of a special time that had to make way for an even more special and unconditional love I found after. ❤️

And this song expresses both of your longing, and love, spoken without words, only your eyes and the heart song you play. The drum is your hearts beating together... I do miss the exquisite voice of the cello though..... I always hoped you could have someone play the cello at your concerts every year. Much love and blessings to you!
