Today all norwegians listen to Nordal Griegs words. Our sorrow is endless today. A beautiful translation. Hope, Love, To all those who moan.

Ikke lett å oversette en poetisk tekst som dette. Bra jobba og fin stemme. Sitatene på slutten var da ikke helt på plass etter min mening

It is a beautiful song, and it is a nice translation. Ofcourse it is not as strong as when on norwegian, but it is hard to find translated poems which manage to keep all the force and vigor as on the original language.

    Should go like this:
    War is contempt for life
    Peace is creation
    Death's march is halted by
    determination
    -
i.e. "by" belongs to the third line

I agree with njordy 10 years ago. But I think lyric has to be different from poetry. They are not the same. Each has it's own power. A lot of the power of the lyric comes from the necessary brevity--I hate to use the word simplification as some will read it as "simplistic". It's clearly not simplistic.
I first read the poem in Norwegian and that led me to this video. My Norwegian isn't very strong, but I hope I got some feel for the original. I enjoy the work both ways.

Hvordan skal ordet om fred ellers spres om ikke på forskjellige språk? Ja, det er en norsk sang, men den burde vært alles.

      PetterVessel helt enig.
Hvis alle hadde forstått budskapet I denne sangen hadde mye bråk og krig I verden vært unngått.....

It's Elfgirl93 (real name unknown to me), but she has removed all videos from her channel.
You hear her sing the Norwegian version here.

Really good translation, except unfortunately quite a few good lines are lost in translation.

This translation does not capture the beautiful message of the song, nor is it as powerful as the original.

Well a song sung in norwegian wouldnt display much spirit or intent to people who cannot speak the language, hence why its translated so others may also understand, even if you believe it is lesser for it.

While a very beautiful song, this is a rather poor translation of the original, nor does it properly display the spirit and intent behind the original.
