Queen Elizabeth II was the longest-reigning monarch in British history. During her reign, she saw World Wars, presidential assassinations, moon landings, disasters and many other memorable events.
The Queen outlived all those dearest to her, watching the world change with their passing. Her reign represented an enormous change for the country - in seventy years, Her Majesty remained the only constant.
Throughout Her Majesty’s life, she was surrounded by influential people who left their mark in time, including her infamous younger sister, Princess Margaret.
Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon, was very different from the Queen as she was commonly known as a rebellious royal. But despite their natural differences, Princess Margaret always had a close-knit relationship with the Queen throughout her reign.

For anybody interested in Margaret’s life, I would highly recommend Craig Brown’s biography “Ma’am Darling”.

Princess Margaret was beautiful, hard working, wise mother and wife. She was a modern woman, instead of a very traditional person in her way of thinking, when it came to her personal life. She was also very formal and simple with her dressing code. Many people loved the way she dressed, my aunts, older cousins, said they were inspired, by the way she dressed during that era.

(With all due respect) I believe even though Princess Margaret would have made for a great charismatic Queen, that wouldnt count for a reliable and dutiful Queen. she didn’t receive the same education as her sister because she was the wild child as Edward was.
If the roles were reversed with Elizabeth being the lively one and Margaret being the responsible one, a plan would’ve been not only suggested but advised by the king himself. But everyone hopes for the best and wouldn’t wish the weight of the responsibility on anyone..that’s where Edward went wrong with the family.

Oh yes, one’s personal life is the absolute best indicator of how seriously one would approach their royal duties. I mean, look at how steadfast and loyal King Charles showed himself to be prior to his accession. Not to the mother of his children, of course, but in his case that’s a mere triviality. After all, Princess Diana did nothing by way of public duties, so it’s not as though dispensing with her as his wife demonstrated any form of distain for the welfare of the nation. 🙄
On a more serious note: I have yet to hear a solid shred of evidence that Edward XIII posed any genuine risk to the nation at the time he was forced to choose between Wallis and the throne. The public loved him; Parliament did not. Churchill didn’t have a problem with Edward - and I’ll take his judgment over Stanley Baldwin’s any day of the week.
As to the more notorious members of the royal family who’ve been 2nd or 3rd in line to the throne: The reality is that no one knows to what extent “wild child syndrome” (Princess Margaret, Prince Andrew, Prince Harry) is reactionary to being “the spare.”
Lastly: It’s supposedly not the role of Parliament to push out a reigning monarch - even an unfit one - any more than it’s the place of the monarch to get involved in politics. You’re at liberty to swallow the story the late Queen Mother would have us all believe - but she had obvious motives for trashing Edward’s reputation, which does not make her an objective witness much less a reliable source.

@@jenniferlynn3537 I agree with you for the most part, my only issue with Edward VIII, and this could do with some correction or explaining if I’m wrong but he believed in the teachings of Eugenics. If you believe in Eugenics then you’re naturally bound to be bias towards your own demographic instead of impartial to all as his brother George VI was. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and say he probably didn’t completely believe it. Also it’s said that he gave intel to the nazis and that led to them bombing Buckingham Palace in the Blitz.
Again if I’m wrong please correct me but other than that he loved meeting the people. Seemed like a decent guy and I’d like believe it. I can’t blame him for finding certain aspects of the job boring and not wanting to do it, finding ways to get out of it, we all would at least those who are honest with themselves. It’s just sad the way things went.
Lastly: I think the Queen Mother just felt like he abandoned his duties and left it to Bertie when everyone including the public knew he wasn’t the most well equipped to be King aside from his dedication to duty. He abandoned his post to marry a twice divorced American. The working class was all for it, but others looked at it differently. I question motives so I can’t help but wonder what Wallis wanted, if he didn’t have his status would she have been so adoring towards him? Maybe..who knows?

She seems to have a rebellious and irrational character, her life unavoidably became tragic given her by-born high royal status would surround herself with god-diggers. The late Queen is very wise and mature in the big choice in life, she and the prince also waited long years before got approval from the late King George... Spoiled high privilege, no matter whether princess or prince seems unavoidable and ends with a tragic life. Privilege comes with weights...
