If you cannot turn you key to the ON position hold tension on it while tapping on wheel lock with hammer. Locking lever inside will not fully depress until both holes line up. I also left clip in place while re-installing into new housing. My OEM ignition housing was hard to turn at first. Some people say not to but I had to cycle the housing, with a flat head, thru Acc, On, and off a few times to free it up. Just put it back in the ON position before re-installing the lock. Pay attention to the position of the start switch too.

Thank you for the video. Very informative! By the way, anyone who attempts a rebuild. You may leave out the long rod out and the short spring loaded rod. Also, i would advise to use a dremel and shave off the spring loaded tab on the inside of the housing that's attached to the black circle seen on the outside of the housing. Good luck!

Flip Keys How do I place all the components inside the barrel in Audi A4 b6 1997 model. The barrel housing is still attached to the steering wheel but i was able to remove the component and clean. Just the part where you mentioned steering wheel lock has to be on to place some components inside , but with barrel still attached in steering wheel rod , how do I do it properly. Would be helpful with some tips please. Also I placed grease in the components hope that's not gonna create an issue
That's the most important part and it's not shown in the video. A hole must be drilled in the black cover on the housing, next to the lock. A spring and a lever are removed from there, which effectively block the contact.

Any idea on how to lower the steering wheel lock nut without using the key? i am in the process of swapping my old lock housing with a new one. Well I was playing with the new one and the steering lock popped up so now I can't match up my key antannae part with the cylinder. The key is at a 90 degree angle but the gear on the lock assembly is straight up. Any suggestions on how to manually turn this without having to take it apart? Hope this request makes sense.
Your not supposed to play with new part and turn it before installation! You’ll lock it up and it’s done! You’ll have to break into the new part if you turn it without installing completely first!
I have pulled the ignition apart, removed broken parts and am trying to reassemble but I have a few more parts than you have in your video, an extra spring and a plastic piece that looks like some sort of of locking mechanism. I don't know exactly where the black piece or the extra spring came out of. Where do I go from here?

Great video! Very thorough! Question: My friend accidentally locked (OFF) my new ignition housing (he was testing it)...will that make it so I cannot connect my ignition cylinder (which is on order from the dealer)? My understanding is that they both have to be in the ON position. Thanks in advance for your response.

Dear friend I need your help. I disassemble a cylinder of my polo 2003 1.2 12v, and I lost a tiny pin /knob at the inside end of the cylinder. Do you know where to buy one or if I need it at all?
I am having an issue where I can not get the lock cylinder back into the housing. Both are set to the "on" position, however it will not let me turn the key once I have the lock cylinder into the housing.
This may be due to fitting issue. You have see which parts are not interconnecting properly Sometimes you need to push the cylinder in housing little harder to fit it perfectly and make it work

+Kevin Usta yes this can be done with lock installed in the car. But it requires quite a practice to do so. Make sure that stearing wheel is neither locked nor it gets locked while repairing the lock as then you will be required to open / remove entire lock to refit its parts back. Once you remove parts from lock just dont touch the steering wheel as not to accidentally lock it.
How can I put the steering wheel lock on if I have the ignition barrel still attached to the steering wheel and just components taken out and cleaned ? Thanks
Its tricky but possible You have to insert each part back one by one at their right position. Make sure Steering wheel doesn't gets locked while you were taking out the lock parts (Its not easy to make this happen). If it gets locked then it will be difficult to put the parts back. I will then recommend that remove the entire lock and assemble its part then fit the lock back
Flip Keys Thanks. I put it back on but it's not aligning with the ignition key with the barrel inside ? I put it back as I could the handle now turns freely more than 360 degrees ? Did I damage something ?
Thank you for this video however I am having a problem. I have a 2002 VW Golf and the piece that turns the switch broke. I bought a steering column from the junkyard since that's the only way to get the housing. I am using the parts from inside the housing and I get stuck when I turn it to the on position to insert the lock cylinder. It pushes out toward the lock cylinder so there isn't enough room to insert the lock cylinder and there is no spring action. It also pushes the white plastic out as well. Any thoughts. Thanks
You need a exactly similar piece then only it will perfect. Locks and watches have closely matched parts, even a slight difference will cause compatibility issue.
Flip Keys That's what I thought as well and I tried putting it back together with the one I got from the junkyard. All with the original parts and I am getting the same outcome.
If you are not able to rotate the key to desired position then there are 2 options. 1. Cut the lock cylinder housing / outer body where the latch gets fit. Then press the latch on cylinder to take it out. 2. Drill the Lock Cylinder to break it and use a new cylinder at its place.
I will answer this in a different way. Sometimes it's possible to repair the lock without even removing ignition lock assembly completely . If you are able to rotate the lock to that point where you can insert a long pin in lock (see video) to remove the ignition barrel then you have a possibility of repairing the main lock assembly even when it's fit in the car. You will require some patience to do the same as its little difficult to repair when lock is fit in the car but not impossible. Now to your question, it depends on your car you are working upon. We have seen that there are many cars in which normally removing the steering wheel is not required. But I am not sure in your case.
Flip Keys In my case, I've been trying to remove the ignition barrel on a VW (mkv)GTI 2007. With the steering still mounted, i'm able to turn the lock to the correct position but I just can't seem to get the ignition barrel out after inserting a long sturdy paper clip. Do you know whether it's required to remove the steering on a VW mkv to get the ignition barrel out? Thank you.
My column lock is stuck in the locked position, it's a brand new housing assembly. Can't get it to rotate to the on position to disable the column lock?
No one mentioned anything about the drilled out hole in the side of the housing at 3:28 in the video. Mine was stuck in clock position and when I took it apart, where that hole is, there's a spring-loaded tab that keeps the lock from going back down. Is it totally necessary to drill it out and remove it for it to work again? Seems like a stupid design, but every instructional video skips right over that part.
I have a question. I got into a mini car accident & when I got home with the car the next day I wanted to use it , it wouldn't turn on . My car is completely dead . I wanna know if this video would make my car turn back on . I have a 99 jetta engine is a 2.0 I really need help !!!!
Hi Debbie Sorry to learn that your car met with an accident. Hope everything this fine. If possible please send photo of your lock, key and point where it is stuck by mail (yogesh@flipkeys.in) or whatsApp (+91 9876 9999 44)
Ok . Idk what yu mean by stuck ? The lights of my car turn on & everything but when I put the key in its like nothing it feels like somethings loose from the starter but I'm not sure . I had a friend look at it & he said it might be on anti-theft mode or something & we gotta find where the switch is to switch it back but we can find it .
Debbie Meregildo You may have triggered a fuel cut off switch which can usually be reset... depending on your model of car perhaps thats what you should search for :).
Hi, this is great video but I m having another problem... "Good guys" tried to steal my VW 5 Plus yesterday night, they drill a hole in my hatch, come all the way to fornt seats, pull out ignition lock (only cylinder) and HOPEFULLY thank god! immobilizer did its job. When I came to car I m prety much sure my steering wheel was locked, but I was able to unlock steering wheel with normal screwdriver and start car with my car keys near immo. I parked my car in garage, and turn off car with my screwdriver. Than yesterday evening I watch your movie and see that I can just order new ignition lock with new keys and just replace immo chip from my old to new keys. Everything OK, I said nothing special and I ordered new ignition lock. Today after my work, I started to disassemble by my "video memory". Since lock barrel was broken I did not have to rotate key to exact position as I saw where is line to press pin that is holding lock in place. But what a mistake, ignition lock came out easily BUT I DID NOT REMEMBER that key must be in ON position. So probably I removed inition lock in wrong position (I do not know if this is possible). Than when I tried to unlock steering wheel (without ignition lock) with screwdriver it does not unlock!!!! I see white plasctic part holiding all parts inside lock but at the moment I have no courage to disassemble lock. First I sad I have to ask profesional about possible problem. So here is my question: 1.) Is it possible that I removed ignition lock in wrong position (I know this is not possible with complete position but my cylinder was pulled out by car thief so I was able to remove ignition lock at any position)? 2.) If its possible, how can I put lock in correct position to unlock steering wheel? Many thanks for your answer. Katrina
Thank you for the very detailed video! I need to do this on my mk5 rabbit, but am currently struggling with removing the ignition. There are no hexs on the top of the bolt for removal. Is there a special tool or trick necessary for removal? Thank you very much in advance for your help.
hello friend I have a model SEAT IBIZA car and I have the same problem given current but not completely turn the key to turn told me I have to change where the key is inserted must be programmed key I hope you can help me thanks
We don't have Seat in India so can't confirm. The problem seems similar to Skoda lock we get locally and can be repaired. You can give it a try by watching this video.
@Jake Sanders their's a black cap on the side/ on the inside of that cap their's a spring loaded retainer that keeps everying in, the pin keeps that retainer from going in.
Don't waste time and money! I spent less that $5 and two minutes and I was done. I used a Graphite Powdered Lubricant, squeezing it into the ignition/key hole by using a paper clip to hold open the ignition door. Immediately put in the key and turn back and forth until the ignition turns.
I have a mkv and bought a new housing and i disassemble just exactly how you did step by step but it won't let me turn 90 degrees with the flat head screw driver. It seems that the lock tripped or something. Please help!
Usually there is a special mechanism in this lock which prevents ignition to be ignited 2 times. You have completely turn off the ignition to use the ignition second time. The part of this mechanism sometimes broke which prevent the lock to rotate freely. You have to use considerable force to rotate the lock once to desired position so that it can be taken out. The part of that mechanism which are providing hindrance in natural movement of the lock needs to be further broken by deliberately and forcefully rotating the lock.
There is a BIG step that he's not showing here, this plastic ring isn't for holding the parts together. There's a metalic cap on the side that you have to remove with force and then take out a safety lock, but if you do this you are ruining the lock cylinder forever.
Hey I have a 2016 vw amarok . The key rotate but not very freely . It feels a little hard to the off position to ON poss . Do you have any idea how can I fix it ? P do I need to replace it? I have 2 + years like that. It's not getting worse but I'm afraid to get completely stuck
@@normansmith205I don't know how hard or difficult it is to turn the key, sometimes it just needs some penetration oil to help it but if it's seems to stuck or feels hard to turn then you better replace it soon because it will just broke down one day and you won't be able to start the car.
+Indo Perfect remove blade if its Flip Key and rotate to correct position. We have seen most of the time its possible using force. If not, then you have to make a cut on lock where the latch is (Although little difficult to find exact place where that latch is), then press that latch completely down ( may require little hammering if doesn't press) then remove the lock
+Flip Keys thanks. I will do this on next two days. I will drill the housing to press the latch. I thought about if its hard to press vecause no ON position so thanks for the hammering advice. Iam a bit concerned because inserted wrong key and forced but then inserted correct key and same behavior it wont turn fully. thx
+Flip Keys I owe you a beer. It came out just taping the column lock with a small hammer, then some force with the key and it went to on position, inserted the wire and it went out. thanks man

Sorry for double post but I watch this movie all over again few times. If I disassembly my ignition lock (with steering wheel locked), can I put part at 3:45 inside lock in CLOSED position (I can not see if you pressed - unlocked or unpressed - locked). This is very important as other way this assembly is not possible if complete lock is not removed. Also help with this problem is needed. Since I do not want to remove complete lock from car - I want to disassemble and assemble with lock housing still in place - if I remove all parts from lock - will this unlock my steering wheel?)... If not how can I remove actual lock part so my wheel is unlocked? Sorry for my locked lock question :)...
And the parts that were broken? You Just trow them away????? An important part Of the security, without that parts, if you accidently turn key, the engine stops and the steering,,, lock it self!!! With the Car in movement!!! When the ignition is in New state, it only lock the steering when you take the key out Of the ignition, with this vídeo you Just put lives in danger,
Thanks a million, friend, for showing us the right way to fix this type of locker! It did a great job to me! It works! 🙏
Merci beaucoup de votre vidéo qui nous a été très utile !!!
Thank you kindly. Can't tell you how helpful this has been. Now lets see how easy it is to get the parts.

how do you take out the lock cylinder if you can't get the key to turn pass the steering wheel unlock position??
If you are not able to rotate the key to desired position then there are 2 options.
1. Cut the lock cylinder housing / outer body where the latch gets fit. Then press the latch on cylinder to take it out.
2. Drill the Lock Cylinder to break it and use a new cylinder at its place.
Ive just bought an audi tt 2005 but only has 1 key i still have my audi a6 2001 with 3 keys would swapping the barrels over work ?
No
As swapping barrel will only rotate the key but will not start the car as key is matched / coded and car will not accept any key
Thanks for your help am i right in saying i would need to change over the full mechanism on both cars then have them both recoded ?
Flip Keys Awesome post! One question. Is it possible to remove the ignition lock barrel without removing the steering wheel?
Rotate forcefully. It might work
I have the same problem brand new and it wont roatate
Had to take mine back to the dealership and fight with them to replace it lol
You can remove key blade from Flip Key and then rotate the blade with pliers
Hope this help
No one mentioned anything about the drilled out hole in the side of the housing at 3:28 in the video. Mine was stuck in clock position and when I took it apart, where that hole is, there's a spring-loaded tab that keeps the lock from going back down. Is it totally necessary to drill it out and remove it for it to work again? Seems like a stupid design, but every instructional video skips right over that part.
the only vid that was right ty
I have a question.
I got into a mini car accident & when I got home with the car the next day I wanted to use it , it wouldn't turn on . My car is completely dead . I wanna know if this video would make my car turn back on . I have a 99 jetta engine is a 2.0
I really need help !!!!
Hi Debbie
Sorry to learn that your car met with an accident.
So here is my question:
1.) Is it possible that I removed ignition lock in wrong position (I know this is not possible with complete position but my cylinder was pulled out by car thief so I was able to remove ignition lock at any position)?

Man ... THANK A LOT !
where does the pin go in the ignition lock because I can't find it on any of these videos?
a long pin fell out of mine did you figure it out?
@Jake Sanders their's a black cap on the side/ on the inside of that cap their's a spring loaded retainer that keeps everying in, the pin keeps that retainer from going in.
Where does the long round skinny piece of metal go ?
Don't waste time and money! I spent less that $5 and two minutes and I was done. I used a Graphite Powdered Lubricant, squeezing it into the ignition/key hole by using a paper clip to hold open the ignition door. Immediately put in the key and turn back and forth until the ignition turns.
Is the graphite powdered lubricant still working for the ignition issue?... just started having this problem.... please let me know... thanks
My key don’t turn so how do Get the barrel out
I have a mkv and bought a new housing and i disassemble just exactly how you did step by step but it won't let me turn 90 degrees with the flat head screw driver.
I have 2007 jetta 2.5 and in the United states and it doesnt let me turn the key all the way to on to align it. How do I do it ?
I assume you have foldable (Flip) key. Kindly separate the metal blade from key and then rotate that forcefully using plier
Can u repair my lock it's slightly jammed skoda yeti
Hi, i have one a3 with this problem, i rotate to start position but the key dont come back to on position i need to twist back, is the spring?
Yes, problem seems to be some little broken part in lock. It can be repaired easily if you can manage to open the lock
Nice vídeo help to repair VW Golf MKV 2004...
Where do I get the new parts to replace the broken ones?
You may try removing the broken part and check working
Most of the time it works
What can I do if I can not to turn away the key to the unlocking point to remove the complete lock?
You may cut the housing slightly where that part gets locked
Can’t turn it to align the hole for wire
Super sir
You either missed or ignored to mention several important parts. They not even in your video.
My fix time and time again is just remove the steering lock mechanism you don't need it it's a pain in the arse
Всё чётко. Хотя без перевода и без звука.
Hi u can fix ur cam (ur the best .i see athers but thy r sooooooooo bad )
hello sir if i lost my key than how ill rotate the ignition... can u help me
malik shapuri call a locksmith
@@JustforFun-cb7bo or turn it off. Look up fuse to fuel pump if you have automatic and won’t turn off.

hey man mine's jammed. How much probability if I use pliers and force it will pass to on position? thanks in advance
Iam a bit concerned because inserted wrong key and forced but then inserted correct key and same behavior it wont turn fully. thx
+Flip Keys Also it is risky to damage the blade using too much force with the pliers?
+Flip Keys I owe you a beer. It came out just taping the column lock with a small hammer, then some force with the key and it went to on position, inserted the wire and it went out. thanks man
@Indo I know it's a year later but how did you do it cause mine is jammed too
I did everything!! I muted, turned volume up and down, refresh webpage, skipped through the video. It doesn't have sound.
... Right?
No sound.
Absolutely AWESOME video, best on Ytube, deserves 40,Million likes and def 2 Billion subscribers at the very least!

I missed the part when you dismantled the whole lock-unit
I just paid 700 usd for this😞
Thanks sir g
And the parts that were broken? You Just trow them away????? An important part Of the security, without that parts, if you accidently turn key, the engine stops and the steering,,, lock it self!!! With the Car in movement!!! When the ignition is in New state, it only lock the steering when you take the key out Of the ignition, with this vídeo you Just put lives in danger,
Half the video was blury and talking would make it much easier to follow.
Trying to read while lookin at a blury video is a but shit.
