Would definitely like to hear more about this watch. It was foxy of them to homage the earlier Explorer in that it’s less obviously a Rolex design homage. The screw-down crown is a welcome upgrade, as I’m shopping for a watch to wear in the pool.
Good unboxing video. I was curious about this one, but I don't think it's for me. I like the original's look with the straight pencil hands and the unique large orange hand with the pointer at the end. I think it's also too big at 42mm. Steinhart makes a decent modern interpretation of the older Rolex and it's available at 42 or 39mm sizes. The only shortcoming IMO is the lack of a cyclops on theirs. Olko watches has their own Steinhart version they offer at 39mm with a cyclops, but they sell out very quickly. I just missed ordering one when they released their last batch.

Would be interesting to compare the two. Is the Steinhart 5 or 6 times “better”? How does the chinese movement stack up against the sWiSs movement (with ebauches built in China, lol)? I much prefer the stick hands on the Steinhart.
With 200m resistance you can dive without any problem at all... The difference is that the watch it is really a 200m water resistant... I guess it is since Pagani lifted the level up
Hello, Horologique! Well, after watching your video on repeat over the course of a week, I pulled the trigger on this watch and couldn't be more pleased. I believe the earlier criticism of the Pagani Design homage of the GMT Master II was that the cyclops over-magnified the date window. I have found the cyclops on the 1693 to be understated and does not refract the minute and seconds hands too much as they pass the date window. The date appears legible without being oversized. With regard to the lume, it lasts till the wee hours of the morning and it depends on how much exposure to light the indices and hands have had prior to lights off. Overall it is a fairly good watch and a break from the GMT Master II aesthetic with the functionality of UTC, the format for reporting times for aviators. A good review, which helped me decide on choosing the 1693. The overall finish and timekeeping makes it a most affordable and practicable purchase. Thanks for the provision of fair insight.

I received this black dial one a few days ago and overall it's goo for the price. But there's a big alignment issue on the bezel engravings. Top half is alright but the under side, especially 12 and 16 are just off to the right. Also some markers don't line up. It's a shame because the dial is very well printed, all sharp. Don't you have that on yours?
@@jrgdrumsandwatches negative sir. The one I received was rather good. QC with Pagani Design is not about the lack thereof but rather about consistency across the spectrum inter and intra model. Having said that, this feature flaw does occur even with established brands. 😉
I purchased one of these GMT's from a Pagani store. The watch arrived and I was very pleased with the design and build of the watch. The problem was the watch ran and stopped, ran and stopped, etc. I contacted the dealer and they said to return the watch. They complained they did not make much of a profit on the watch. Not my problem. First I approached a local jeweler about taking a look at the watch and he would not do it, very opinionated about Chinese watches. I sent the watch back to China with tracking through USPS. That was two months ago. The watch has disappeared into the nether world of Chinese customs. I do not expect to either get a refund or a replacement watch. This is the downside of indulging in Chinese horology and has been the end of it for me. Pagani does make some nice-looking watches. What is the point if they cannot tell time?
That's not normal, you should get your money back. Don't forget, go though Ali Express so you can always open a case and they'll solve it for you. Don't send it directly to brands. But overall you are right, in general Chinese timepieces have more QC issues than Japanese (except Seiko) and Swiss

Great unboxing video. Mine arrived today. What strikes me immediately is that the quality of the workmanship of the watch is top-notch and that at a reasonable price. This usually occurs with watches in a higher price range. Pagani clearly raises the bar a little higher when it comes to quality finish. Still, compared to my earlier bought Pagani timepieces. I totally agree with you that the diver's extension is indeed meaningless, they should have left that out. The magnification of the cyclops lens should be 2.5 times. There is also a spelling error on the back of the watch, namely 'Stainless Stell' instead of 'Stainless Steal'. But regardless of these small drawbacks, I think it is a successful and beautiful model. For me at least, it is currently one of my favorite watches from my collection. I am looking forward to your full review.

Considering there isn't another alternative to the original currently out there this is very welcome. Especially at the price point. The one issue is that with the price bumps (over $120 even on sale) the value for money consideration is less clear cut and quality (as well as quality control) expectations become higher.

Salut Oliver! If a watch homage is justifiable and legit, it's this one, homaging a very stylish watch that's discontinued many decades ago. Apart from the cyclops, and even from Pagani design I've seen better cyclopses, the watch is decently put together. But the biggest complaint I have is that Pagani Design are adamant about their oversized watches and for this size the minute hand looks a tad short to me.

I was looking forward to this timepiece but it's too big for me and I don't like the cyclops but obviously the cyclops can be carefully removed with heat, which would then make the watch appear more like the famous Steinhart homage to the vintage Explorer 2. Just wish it was 39 or even 40mm.

Bonjour Stéphane, ça va très bien et j'espère que toi aussi ! Là on parle de gammes de qualité et de prix totalement différentes. Sur Steinhart tu auras des montres Swiss Made de bien meilleure qualité. La concurrente directe de celle ci chez eux est plus fidèle au modèle d'origine, mais côté aussi plus de 5 fois plus. Pour avoir le feeling celle ci est très bien si c'est ce que tu recherches. Une esthétique réussie et une finition pour le prix sont son fort. Un mouvement moyen et une taille de 42mm (comme la Steinhart d'ailleurs) sont ses points faibles

I’m a little worried about the water resistance, don’t see a rubber gasket when I unscrew the crown. I just can’t believe the quality for $82 bucks. Sadly my Parnis GMT arrived with many issues but I’m in love with this PD Explorer 2 homage!!

I was thinking of getting the stienhart copy of this watch but then I see this watch so I'm thinking do I pay half a grand (500 pounds) or do I pay one hundred and ten pounds or there abouts because the price differs but it's no more than one fifty so that still a big difference if I buy the Pagani I'll save 350pounds but will the watch last ? I know the stienhart will be well made and will last a life time , so it's picking the right one ? Help LoL.
The Steinhart will be better built that's for sure, vit this one os no slouch either, especially for rhe price. If you really want to save om cash go for this one, especially 8f you have a big collection and it's a passing fancy. If it's something more serious definitely go for the Steiny knowing this one certainly won't last as much
before pushing the crown back in when the GMT hand is set rotate the crown slightly in the date direction to disengage the gears. Then it will set where you placed it. Re- adjust the date quick set again after if necessary

Deux possibilités, 1 l'application stricte par la belgique de la nouvelle réglementation tva européenne ce qui voudrait dire que ça va suivre pour vous ou 2 un politicien qui aurait trop parlé des ouigours... pourtant mes commandes étaient en intra européen depuis leurs warehouses et la réglementation change au 1 juillet ... étrange. Size and Mercedes hands are my main complaints. It’s a little thick, too, but that’s sort of the style and a result of a 4 deep hand stack, so, forgivable. Also, I think it would be a smidge thinner if it was cut down in diameter.
Just watching this with the modern dial old version on my wrist hoping I made the right decision Edit: No regrets since a vintage style watch like this should be smaller and the modern white dial version is crisp and legible👌

With those male endlinks the lug to lug is over 55mm; the bracelet has to go! Also that cyclops has to go, it ruins an otherwise bestiful dial. I would have liked the pencil hands; tired of overused Mercedes hand.

The finish is significantly better than on the 1661 Sub homage.
For me the edges aren't really sharp but I have a low sensitivity to sharpness

Là on parle de gammes de qualité et de prix totalement différentes. Sur Steinhart tu auras des montres Swiss Made de bien meilleure qualité. La concurrente directe de celle ci chez eux est plus fidèle au modèle d'origine, mais côté aussi plus de 5 fois plus.
Pour avoir le feeling celle ci est très bien si c'est ce que tu recherches. Une esthétique réussie et une finition pour le prix sont son fort. Un mouvement moyen et une taille de 42mm (comme la Steinhart d'ailleurs) sont ses points faibles
@@Horologique oui tout à fait ce qui me plaît sur la Pagani c'est la loupe que ne possède pas la steinhart mais la steinhart est vraiment super bien faite . J'ai commandé la SM SN015 BATMAN je me tâte entre la Pagani et la Steinhart. Mais à la fin de l'année je compte m'offrir le combot davosa ternos GMT professionnal montée sur bracelet jubilé en version pepsi et batman ☺️☺️☺️
I bought it on sale w/coupons for $82 total taxes included. Should have it in 2 weeks; hope the watch holds & the cyclops isn’t crazy misaligned.

@@Horologique I just received it and opened it. Absolutely gorgeous… no visible QC’s. Time will tell about the movement. I’m a little worried about the water resistance, don’t see a rubber gasket when I unscrew the crown. I just can’t believe the quality for $82 bucks. Sadly my Parnis GMT arrived with many issues but I’m in love with this PD Explorer 2 homage!!

I was thinking of getting the stienhart copy of this watch but then I see this watch so I'm thinking do I pay half a grand (500 pounds) or do I pay one hundred and ten pounds or there abouts because the price differs but it's no more than one fifty so that still a big difference if I buy the Pagani I'll save 350pounds but will the watch last ? I know the stienhart will be well made and will last a life time , so it's picking the right one ? Help LoL.
The Steinhart will be better built that's for sure, vit this one os no slouch either, especially for rhe price. If you really want to save om cash go for this one, especially 8f you have a big collection and it's a passing fancy. If it's something more serious definitely go for the Steiny knowing this one certainly won't last as much
The hands look like larger than the old version. Am I correct?! The old version looks comical with the small hands.

How about the jumping of the GMT hand when the crown is pushed in after adjusting the hand?
That would upset me already on a 30 dollar watch.
This Is a bad feature of this calibre. Cheap GMT.
before pushing the crown back in when the GMT hand is set rotate the crown slightly in the date direction to disengage the gears. Then it will set where you placed it. Re- adjust the date quick set again after if necessary

@@Horologique Salut, je ne sais pas ce qu'il se passe mais toute commande vers la Belgique en tout cas est bloquée, ils ont même annulé la commande de ma 1963 car ils ne peuvent plus livrer vers mon adresse. Deux possibilités, 1 l'application stricte par la belgique de la nouvelle réglementation tva européenne ce qui voudrait dire que ça va suivre pour vous ou 2 un politicien qui aurait trop parlé des ouigours... pourtant mes commandes étaient en intra européen depuis leurs warehouses et la réglementation change au 1 juillet ... étrange. C'était juste pour info

Size and Mercedes hands are my main complaints. It’s a little thick, too, but that’s sort of the style and a result of a 4 deep hand stack, so, forgivable. Also, I think it would be a smidge thinner if it was cut down in diameter.

With those male endlinks the lug to lug is over 55mm; the bracelet has to go! Also that cyclops has to go, it ruins an otherwise bestiful dial. I would have liked the pencil hands; tired of overused Mercedes hand.

Date magnifiers look terrible. If only Rolex could figure out how to do them under the glass like AP or Panerai(!!!) for a more sleek look.
