I think he has green eyes in KRV because he don't have the gem(forgot the name sorry).The gem took control of his soul and made him evil but when he lost the gem Vez'Nan somekind has changed and the power of the gem no more has control on his soul but he is still bad guy.I think in the new game he don't have the gem that is why he has green eys.
I think the timeline is origins > kr 1 > vengeance > frontiers becus if you beat KR vengeance you will see the moment you revive bonehart - the dragon!!!
but they tell me about the end of kingdom rush frontiers in which you can see a strange creature speaking in a rare language and alsando the stone of that wicked wizard who woke up a maligana entity
Maybe that weird green hand was one of vez'nan minions cause the up coming kingdon rush is where you play as a bad guy and vez'nan rises again maybe he have obtain the crystal back because of his minion

Rusher you are right, gem (Tear of Eline) controlled Vez'nan, but I'm sure that necromancers towers from KRF were Vez'nan mirages
Idk actually it will be good if ironhide game studio make somekind of story that shows us the whole picture or comic that they canceled unfortunately

KRV has really cool gameplay system and it needs more strategy than usual but to be honest every KR game has that thing that makes it awesome :)
