Recorder is HARD! - Bas-Pelles Eriks brudpolska (Sweden)

  • I have been practicing the recorder for quite a while, but I still find it very challenging.
Of course, the fingerings are not the same as the tin whistle; you need to practice "thumbing" to play the higher register. However, it's not just that - there are a lot of crossed fingerings, which can easily lead to crossing noises. Pronunciation is more delicate, and articulation is more sensitive. Just listen to "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star," and you will know the skill level of the recorder player.
I am not aspiring to play Telemann or Bach; I am only interested in playing European Folk music (English Playford, Spanish, Nordic folk music...), but there is still a long way to go. Advice from more experienced players is welcome!! I will keep practicing.

For me it's easier to play the recorder than tin whistle because recorder was my first instrument. I hold the recorder more confidently and more comfortably. But baroque music is still hard 🙈 I can't play it well yet

Thank you for the comment, I am straggling with removing unpleasant crossing noises. I realized I can't regard recorder as a tin-whistle (of course!) so I need to change everything and learn it from the basics.
