We are not the best at following directions sometimes...😂 and it was definitely our fault that the fries were oddly shaped but we did enjoy them and will be making them again soon but next time we will keep them thin like you suggested! I started living Keto 1/22. Since then I have lost 90 pounds! I have gone from using 75 units of Novalin insulin twice a day to using 20 units and my average blood sugar runs less than 100. Last month I had a stroke and the doctors have said that I had to go a lower cholesterol diet. So I have been revamping my Keto recipes. I and using much less beef, eliminating full fat dairy items, eliminating whole eggs and basically minding the cholesterol count along with the carbs and sugar. My appetite is under control. I eat when I feel hungry and stop when I'm finished with what I put on my plate. So far my transition is going very well. I use olive or coconut oil for everything now. I just purchased some avocado oil and going to try to make some of your french fries. I started Keto watching you and you ever so aided me with my transition. Thank you and keep on helping others to gain control of their mental and physical health.

      @Tafari I not all people on keto eat under 20 carbs a day. Some people can be away with 30/35, some people can even manage 50. I don't strictly count mine. I just choose from safe foods and eat until I'm satisfied. I keep a general count in my head, make sure my when I eat it's generally between 5 and 9ish carbs. I'm still breastfeeding so they suggest you eat about 50 carbs a day, but I'm definitely way under that and not suffering any ill effects. Just feel your way and find the balance that's right for you, if it's obsessive, chances are it won't be enjoyable. Although some people thrive off that kind of structure, I guess it depends on what works for you. I don't have cheat days personally, I thought I'd want to, but I don't. I ate a load of carbs once and it all but tasted crap and made me feel like I was on speed or something! 😂 Really wasn't pleasant.
      I know your question wasn't for me, but I thought I'd give you my input. I'm sure this lady knows more than me. I've only been doing it a couple of months, but I'm really enjoying it.

    I started keto 3 yrs ago because my doctor recommended it. Due to I have pcos, according to my doctor she said it was the most severe case she has ever seen. My hormones were way out of wack. Not to mention I was borderline type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure. Mainly I did the diet to correct my hormone imbalance to able to get pregnant and lower my blood pressure. I was amazed how much weight I lost. I was a little over weight, total I lost 27 lbs and six months after starting I was able to get pregnant and had a beautiful sassy baby girl 🥰. Till this day I continue the keto diet. Since having my baby I gained some weight back. I’m just taking one day at a time to get back to my goal.

    This is one of the most profoundly helpful videos on diet I have ever watched. The philosophy, the way in which you express it, is accessible & yet deeply profound. So what I was needing right now. I am a 73 year old woman who has struggled with being overweight my whole adult life. Two years ago I had a complicated hip replacement (first surgery split my femur in two places - was redone within two weeks; I had to spend the first 6 weeks pretty well lying in bed to heal the femur). I did heal well. I lost a bunch of weight while in hospital. At home I wanted to continue that weight loss & be able to maintain. I did my jbest about 10 years ago on an all raw (vegan) diet for one & a half years. But, by gar, I regained the weight & fell off raw wagon. This time, after the surgery, I researched (mostly on TH-cam) the keto diet. It seemed so contrary to everything I had learned. I tried it & found it to work for me - wonderful to feel full, not craving. I hit a plateau, not a bad weight, but about 10 lbs above my ‘ideal’ weight. I’ve been around that weight for about 8 months. Went ‘high raw’ for the summer & amazingly started to slowly gain weight. So here I am back on (vegan) keto. So this video helps me enormously. Thanks! Oh, by the way, that you are vegan is a huge draw for me. You are inspiring. And your recipes are terrific.

      Hi Pat, keto is totally sustainable for a vegan and it has provided tremendous healing for my body. The food is delicious and you're no longer on the guilt/pleasure rollercoasters. There will be some ups and downs till your body adapts and settles, so be patient. But most importantly, enjoy the food! As they're no longer the source of guilt but true nourishment.

      You are a treasure, Fan. Thank you for speaking so candidly and generously about your journey. I'm just 4 months into mine, and just recently realized I had stopped planning my IF and had switched to just listening to my body. What an amazing experience to realize I can trust it! I hadn't done a 24 hr + fast on my more or less regular schedule... and then woke up one morning with my body saying loud and clear it did not want food. So I went with it and ate once my body said it was time to. Like you, meal times have gone out the window! I count carbs though, for now, because with long covid I've been hyper sensitive to them and the one of the most direct ways I've found to minimizing the ill effects has been to stay under 25g net carbs per day. Hopefully this phase will pass and I'll be able to stop counting them. Be well!

That lack of knowledge came from my upbringing in my family and community. Now that I have the knowledge I have power. Also some youtubers made some optimizations, like 'Keto Funnel Cake' by Ashley Salvatori.
    I personally wanna try to make mini-pizza-crust and cookies.
    You should think about marketing your recipe.

    Such a healthy, joyful perspective~ as it truly IS a quest for freedom. Of course we want to enjoy our food, & we want to properly fuel & nourish our bodies~ they ARE our 'temples', so to speak, & they are THE ONLY ONE WE GET. To respect our bodies & how best to treat them, is to unlock/open up doors to every other aspect of living a quality life. To be of highest standard service to ourselves, makes it natural & easy to want to share & be of service to others.
    Personally, my most significant "transformation" has been the freedom of focus. For about 20 yrs. I have been a 'grazer', thinking it most healthy to eat very small amounts, 5 or 6 times a day. I have always been very active, physically, so I felt as though this was most conducive to my lifestyle~ I was consistently fueling my body, just barely enough. Yet, having so much of my time focused on preparing ahead for the day/week & making sure I always had a ready protein & veg/fruit source available- all day long- was tedious! It also trained my body to be hungry/expect food every couple hours- ridiculous. I began to resent it, and felt it occupied far too much of my time AND my head space. That resentment is what led me to begin researching alternatives, & ultimately led me to keto. I eat once a day, on average, sometimes a light meal or snack in between. Such FREEDOM, & I feel like I accomplish so much more in my day. In fact, I know I do!
    It took a few weeks for my body to adjust; to be able to eat larger quantity at one time. Also, much research & study was in order to reverse my belief that a body goes into "starvation mode" & holds onto extra fat & fluids if we go long periods in between eating. I'm a person who needed the scientific studies, the hundreds of personal accounts, & the ancestral eating history lessons to convince me that I can actually tap into fat/energy stores during fasting periods.
    Education of experience is also invaluable~ it feels, & IS wonderful to share, far & wide =) Your contributions are exceptional, imho, & I Thank You for them.
    XO's from Samantha in AZ

      You don’t need a lot of fat to be on keto. If you cut the carbs your body naturally goes into ketosis. All the extra fat is mainly for the beginning of keto. It’s to help someone that is use to eating a lot get through the cravings for food. My wife has been on keto for 6 years. She eats no more fat than she did when she was eating the SAD. Which is not a lot because it upsets her stomach. When she tests she in nutritional ketosis which is optimal for the diet.

    I appreciate your efforts on the fries. I won't try them merely because I have came to the point in my Keto journey where I have decided to stop trying to recreate the things I used to eat. I don't need them anymore. Yes, I loved fries - emphasis on LOVED. Thanks for your recipes.

      That’s a great way to overcome certain food issues! I too have been avoiding certain recreations of my favorites but I have to admit that yes, I know these are not real fries, but they are still a delicious treat to have on occasion...just as some sort of almond/coconut flour crispy concoction 🤓 I didn’t substitute them for anything else

      Same. I was already heavier than I wanted to be going in to lockdown 1.0, I put on quite a bit in lockdown, I don’t know how much because I didn’t have scales at home but probably 10lb. I started Keto for the first time around July. I’ve lost approx 2 stone, making me about 8lb heavier than my ideal. I’ve noticed that my shape has changed, I still have some stubborn fat around the middle but this is probably an age related change as I’m now approaching 50 and the last time I was my ideal was in my late 30s. Still have some awesome clothes I’m trying to get back in to. My husband has joined me in this Keto journey, he was a self confessed carb addict and has a lot more to lose than me. He’s lost about 2 stone and has another 3 or 4 to go. Fingers crossed!

    I am about 3.5 months keto. I have lost 12 lbs. I feel great. My clothes are fitting better, which is my biggest indicator or reward of weightloss. I totally identify with the emotional roller coaster of eating 'bad' food and guilt associated with it. I hope to get to a point where I'm not obsessing over weighing and tracking every little thing I eat! I am also a foodie. I have been since I was a child. You are a gracious lady. Keto is a challenge for people who are used to being told eat this, don’t eat that, have this many meals and snacks, rather than the “simple” principle of listening to your body. We are also used to fast food, instant everything, so in our modern society, we don’t like the principle of having to take time to learn what works and what doesn’t. But the rewards of long-term health and freedom are worth the investment of time and the bumpiness of the learning curve.

    Well presented. It's true what you said about satiety, leading to being happy with keto food choices, and feeling very well, calm, and in control. After starting keto, I tried to explain to other people what's the difference between and low calorie eating plan vs keto. My friends that eat high carb, high sugar didn't understand and thought I was surpressing my desire to eat high carb/high sugar based foods. I'm not surpressing it, I just don't want them anymore. I do find when I have had high carb junk items (like potatoe chips), you can easily eat more of them, as your body doesn't have that cut off switch activated. I'm so glad I've found keto, like you, I'm mentally calm, and in control of what I eat, instead of foods controlling me. Thanks for your channel, I really enjoy it.

    • @beverlyhills8988
      @beverlyhills8988 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly this! I don't count at all, I just use 'safe' foods and eat as much or little as I like. The only challenging part for me is the amount of planni g and preparation involved, but ultimately that's a good thing, because I'm making almost everything from scratch. I know what's going into my body and also, when you have to take that time to prepare it, it prevents you from just eating for the sake of it.
      In fact, the other day my boyfriend made a sausage casserole and I ate two new potatoes with it. I didn't spend all night hearing the rest of them calling me from the kitchen and I felt satisfied. It didn't fuck my diet up. If I'd have tried doing that eating any other way I'd have just gorged on them like I'd never see another potato again! In the future, I might invest in the ketone testing stuff to see where I'm at, then again, I might not. I definitely prefer this approach. Allowing the ketogenic lifestyle to be an organic process just feels right and it's so enjoyable. In fact I'm not even allowing it. It needs no permission, it's just does it all for me! It's so nice to look forward to your meals and not be looking for something else to eat an hour later, or worse still, fighting the urge to eat again after every meal.

    Great video! Diets can be very personal and any small failure someone experiences can be very personal as well. Someone else's numbers shouldn't matter. I'm 60 years old and trying to lose weight, lower blood pressure, and lower my blood glucose level. Keto has helped me with all three personal health issues. This is my personal battle, not someone else's and my numbers will be irrelevant to most other people. Thanks again!

    Thank you for making sense of the many aspects of the ketogenic way of eating. I’m fairly new (4 months) to the keto diet and have a lot of weight to loose, however, having hit a plateau shortly after the initial loss of 18-20 lbs., I became very discouraged and almost threw in the towel, but then after a routine visit with my doctor, we both realized I had reversed some medical conditions, and I was thrilled about that. So now, I weigh myself once every 2 weeks, if I think of it, and I’m sticking with the program to hopefully continue to see more progress. By the way, I love your keto recipes!

    Thank you for your fabulous channel, great recipes and quiet, sensible advice. We started keto about a year ago when my husband was diagnosed with diabetes and my blood glucose was rising year by year. The amazing weight loss was incredible and to date he has dropped around 7 inches (18cm) on his waistline and me about 4 inches. His hba1c is now normal and he no longer feels hungry all the time. Neither do I. For 50 years I have been a home baker but since keto I am free of the responsibility to make bread, cakes and all the rest that everyone came to expect from me. That's very liberating! It has taught me to eat to live rather than live to eat and I'm learning to eat when my body wants rather than what the clock says. A huge thank you. There is one downside - we both need a new wardrobe of smaller clothes :)

  • @kathyjames9250
    @kathyjames9250 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Thanks so much for this sensible, body-friendly approach. You are right, each person needs to do their own research. As a (former!) Diabetic, the only sensible approach to keto for me was in a way that has not forced me into practices I can’t sustain, that is, to make the easiest gradual changes, without over-counting specific amounts, except for marking daily in a journal, the occurrences of protein, fat, carbs and liquids (no amounts, but I can tell if I am overdoing something by the way my body reacts).
    Only recently I started to use a “net carbs” food chart, partly so I could re-introduce a few nutritious grains, legumes, and starchy vegetables back into my diet, because I was looking terribly unhealthy, feeling weak, and my hair was falling out! It has allowed me a wider versatility of foods, and also more that my family can share somewhat, and after only a few days, I am feeling much better, more energetic, and feeling not so deprived. As you say, this is sustainable so I don’t have to revert to other unhealthy sources of satisfaction. After doing my research, i reintroduced oatmeal (rough cut rather than quick cooking is better) and hulled barley (not pearled). I know it helps to combine them with lots of good fats, plus other protein- , nutrient- and fibre-dense foods to slow down absorption and keep satiated. It is worth it to me no longer to focus only on weight-loss, although that seems to be occurring on its own at a healthy rate, indicating that my body still needs to lose fat.
    I am really grateful for your videos. I was so happy when you introduced those keto-friendly noodles you use, (I like the “rice” version!) I also was really happy to find zero carb organic black soy beans (canned) by “Eden” brand, so I can enjoy chilli, bean soups, taco salad, bean salad, etc. The low carb site (Canadian) also carries sugar-free BBQ sauce and other hot sauces. Each of these opens up a new world of choices.
    As a Christian, I felt led early in the year to make these changes, and it gradually became clear to me that I had been ‘sinning’ against my own body and mind (and life), as well as those of the people around me, which is the fallout of self-destructive habits, (no man is an island). Besides the opportunities to boost my immunity, regain brain function, as well as the health of my family, it boosts effective prayer, allowing me, as a (former!) Diabetic to fast, as the Lord has indicated is standard practice for a person of faith. Right now we need effective prayer. God bless you, your family, and everyone following your videos.
