    You missed one important detail: the Armorer didn't use the entire ingot to make the pauldron. She mentions that the Mandalorian donated "the excess" to sponsor foundlings.

      There is so much speculation in this video that I don't even see the point. I mean, just to name one, I would estimate the piece of Beskan (if it has a density similar to that of normal steel) to weigh ~8+ oz not 4. And to your point we don't know how much of it was used in the alloy that makes up the pauldron. Did he donate 90% of it? 50%? Seemed like it was implied there was a lot left over. He also gave all the calmari money to the armorer as well. Is this because even though he was donating most of the Beskan block, the real restriction to him getting a full set of armor is actual money?
      Hell, it might not even be worth much on the open market, no one besides Mandalorians apparently use the stuff. Maybe market value doesn't even make sense here because it is so rare, and Madalorians are so rare, that there isn't really an agreed upon price that it trades at. To use some financial jargon; A market needs a certain level of liquidity for reliable price discovery. Kinda like how a rare stamp might be worth $1500 to a handful of collectors spread around the globe while being valueless to everyone else. By comparison an ounce of gold can be sold for ~$1500 reliably in any city, and any person knows gold has value. The gold is much closer to being 'money' than a rare stamp is.

      I believe this video is coherently wrong based on several canon facts. You're telling me this metal can withstand direct hits from blasters and lightsaber slashes yet is only worth so little.... Negative! You can easily kill jedis with a big(not large personal) number of warriors wearing this armor! You highly underestimated the worth of this metal. Please do revise and look into this metal, otherwise you will be the laughing stock of everyone else and not amount to aanything. With upmost respect; Serna.

      Those imperial wanted him bad enough to part with a container of beskar...like a dragon pearl.
      Priceless and worthless.
      That child was worth more than that 5,000,000 credit bounty.

    Isn't it possible he was paying tribute or contributing to the clan when he gave the Calamari credits to the smith? That's what I thought at least. Especially considering he gave it before he even brought out the Beskar and on top of that let the Smith keep the leftover Beskar for "Foundlings" to use.

    • @sancturillore
      @sancturillore 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Exactly. As the Mandalorian saying goes, family is more than bloodline. To Mandalorians, the clan's well being is more important than the individual's. I wouldn't be surprised if he only keep enough money for food, fuel and repairs, giving everything else he earns to the tribe.
      Plus, based on the Armorer's position as a Beskar'gam(traditional Mandalorian beskar-made armor) blacksmith AND based on the design of her own Beskar'gam (which appears to be of a style dating from the Old Republic Era, with the armor having been passed down in her family since then), I wouldn't be surprised if she's the head of that Mandalorian tribe. If she is, then giving her the money is about the same as giving money to the tribe.
      Then we can also factor in how she seems to be the one in charge of helping the foundlings gain access to their first piece of Beskar armor (the helm), with her likely having been the one(or her predecessor during her apprenticeship) to give the main character his helm back in the days.
      Everything points toward the main character giving to the tribe when giving money and Beskar to the Armorer, and that's without talking about how they didn't even discuss on the matter, implying a tacit understanding of such an interaction being the norm.

    A few issues, to a Mandalorian it also takes on a quasi religious value, not only for their codes, but in that it comes from one system, one world and one moon, making it one of if not the most unique item in the entire Known Galaxy. Add to this that the Mandalor have been mining this for thousands of years it is a very finite resource also increasing value. I think you need to look at adding a factor of between 10 and 100 times your given estimate assuming the Mandolorian doesn't just kill an outsider for having it.

    Full suit of Beskar'gam is listed as 33,000 credits (listed in Scum and Villainy Page 48) which is the same price for light, medium and heavy armors that to me doesn't make sense since heavy armor by nature would take more beskar than light armor. In the book, us dastardly Mando's can get it for 3,000 if the game master permits because it means a Mando Weapon/Armorsmith is available for forge it so the price can actually vary as well for making it into armor. Keep in mind that is Just The Arrmor, not any weapons added to it or modifications done to it. A full suit of contemporary newer style armor includes 19 pieces for a full suit which includes but is not limited to (this is all taken from: Bounty Hunters Code pages 142-143): buy'ce (or barbute, helmet), haalas (cuirass that might or might include beskad, kal'halcabure, karta beskar and shartas), ghet'bur (gorget which can include jatne ghet'bur or upper gorget, the part Jango Fett wasn't wearing when Mace Windu "topped" or decapitated him), nor'cabur (backplate), bes'marbure (spaulders which in older times included shun'bure or rear vambraces), kom'rk (vambrace or gauntlet which might or might not be included with the previous entry), ven'cabur (codpiece or groin protector which could include a hut'uun cabur, interesting note on that: hut'uun means Hutt. lol), motun'bure (cuissard, full or half style), bes'lovike (poleyns), and last but not least the tadun'bure (greaves or shin guards). So with the length of this response you can see how a full suit of beskar'gam can become quit expensive if it's made of beskar, lots and lots of parts to forge there, and is usually passed down from one generation to another instead of forging a whole new suit for each warrior.

      joão soares I see your point but it’s not a flaw of the mandalorian. No hero being perfect at everything is interesting to watch. Take Anikan for example, he is the chosen one. That is said from the beginning. He lucks his way into winning the day in the phantom menace which was not interesting at all. Then he gets his butt kicked in attack of the clones by dooku. This shows that he has room to grow and makes him more human. This is the same thing we see with the mandalorian. He is clearly a great fighter but he was beaten by the Jawas and the hairy rhino. Contrast that with Rhey being perfect at everything and beating Kylo in episode 7 despite having no training. Clearly the outlier is Rhey which is why she isn’t interesting to watch. It has nothing to do with her being a female, it has to do with the hero’s journey. Something Lucas followed to a T.

    Beskar is a prestige material, that is especially prestigious to Mandolorians. If you were smart and dealing with a Mando you would pay them in Beskar regardless, knowing that you would get a better deal. I imagine that the material itself is a specific name for a relatively rare material. I doubt it is completely unique to one planet and it's moon, That would make it far more valuable. It would probably be completely mined out long before the New Republic. The same problem of scale that Starwars always has trouble with is present here. Rhodium is a good example, there is probably an asteroid on the far reaches of space that has some also. Maybe a moon in Frontier space, maybe a forgotten iceball in wild space.
    Beskar is just the Manolorian name for a rare material that probably has a hundred names outside of Basic.

Bobba Fett was one of the best bounty hunters in the galaxy and he couldn't seem to afford the real deal armor. Essentially, it should have made the Mandalorian enough cash for him to retire or semi retire. I'd estimate his payment was in the $10 to $20 mill range. This video makes FAR too many assumptions. Your final $/oz calculation is based on the fact that the bar of Beskar “looks like it weighs about a quarter of a pound”. How is it possible to tell that? If he was holding a block of gold that size, I guarantee that it would weigh significantly more than that. If it were aluminum, that might be more on par. You can’t tell the density of a material just by looking at it.

    I think it’s worth a lot more than your estimates. For one, I don’t think the whole pauldron is pure Beskar steel. The one making the pauldron had said that the extra will go to support foundlings. So we don’t know how much is left over, but if that small amount can support what amounts to an orphanage...it’s got to be worth a lot more.

      reven ice A better way he could’ve used to estimate the value of beskar steel is to take Chapter 2 of the Mandalorian in to account. Honestly I think there's a far simpler way to go about it's true value, and I think it's worth far more than what you've estimated. In the scene where Djin comes in wearing his new suit of armor he meets with Greef Karga it's noted by Greef that he got paid in Beskar as well. He was given two bars and that was enough to make him say that he's rich now. I'm not sure how to exactly define rich but if each bar is only worth about $25,000 then that's definitely not enough to make Greef rich. I'd say they're worth 10 times as much as you've stated, making two of them worth $500,000 together. That qualifies as sort of rich to me

    After saying he would donate the excess Bescar the armorer who forged his pauldron (actually she CAST it from a mould) stated that his donation would help "many Foundlings", meaning she only used a portion of the original block. I think your estimate could easily be off by 10 times or more.

  • @MrTwbrien
    @MrTwbrien 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    We actually can't figure out what that block of beskar is worth yet. The entire block wasn't used to make the pauldron. Eh it's debatable if Boba Fett is/was a mandalorian. He isn't genetically, as Jango was sort of adopted by mandalorians. Neither is he culturally (which is likely more important) as he spend no time with them as a collective aside from the things he might have picked up from his father. Then again maybe that's enough to qualify? Still debatable though.
