    Just a note on The Canterbury Museum - it’s been closed for renovations since last year. They are demolishing some of the buildings there before adding new ones and revamping everything. I think it’s expected to be 5 years or similar before it reopens.

      Oh wow! Good to know. Thanks for sharing that. I should have just left it out and talked about the aviation museum. Oops.

    Hi, next time you're back in Chc, try going to Quail Island, which is a 10-15 minute ferry from Lyttelton harbour. Lake Roto Kohatu is another cool spot just north of the city, esp. during summer if you like swimming or kayaking/paddleboarding or just for a nice picnic. The Groynes is an awesome park, north of the city with heaps of different walking tracks. Also Spencer Park and the Waimakariri river if you're into fishing or boating. Christchurch is an awesome city, and I agree, it is underrated cos most tourists just use it as a base to explore further south but I think Chc is also worth exploring. A few days here will be worth it. :)

    Brittany look up Jonah Lomu if you don't know him already. Absolute legend. I'm a Kiwi that hates professional rugby but Jonah Lomu is way, way more than stupid modern rugby.

    Lyttelton is technically part of Christchurch it Joined the city in the mid 2000s in no longer a town just a suburb the official boundary of Christchurch city includes all of banks peninsula

    • @brittanymorgan09
      @brittanymorgan09  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Interesting! I can't find much online about it being part of Christchurch. Google maps shows it's outside the border. Wikipedia does say it's governed by Christchurch city council though. Do you have a source? I'd be interested in reading more into that! Thanks 😊

    You were showing the Air Force museum. The Canterbury museum is under renovation at the moment

    • @brittanymorgan09
      @brittanymorgan09  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yep, I had a little text blurb that explained I forgot to mention the air force museum which is the one we actually went to. I should have talked about it instead of the Canterbury museum which we didn't go to (so I had no footage) but the video was already pre-filmed haha. Joys of being a content creator!

    Canadian as well. I lived here for a year when I was 22 back in 2015. I really wish I was a little older and more mature at the time to fully appreciate it for what it was. I always think about my time in NZ and wish I would have done at least the 2nd year of WHV.
    The weather in Christchurch is great. Winters were super mild as a Canadian anyways. I remember waiting at the bus stop in shorts and t shirt mid day and people giving me funny looks. The transit system is actually super good. It's all color coded and simple to understand. The cities also super flat so it's really easy to get around by bike.
    Im glad you guys liked it because so many travelers I met were so negative towards it and it kind of bummed me out at times if im being honest because that was my home base where I was kind of stuck because of work. Like you said its a very good hub for weekend trips! South Islands amazing. Something I was surprised by was the kiwi's i met in Christchurch that hadnt really seen much of New Zealand. I felt like I seen more of the country in a year than a lot of the locals in an entire life time.
    Never had a bad run in with anyone my entire year stay. Really safe city! If you come from a mega population city you might find yourself a bit bored but it is what you make it !

    • @brittanymorgan09
      @brittanymorgan09  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great thoughts, thanks for the comment! It is SHOCKING how many kiwi's haven't travelled New Zealand at all. I guess when it's your own backyard you think you'll get around to it eventually. I know a lot of Canadians who've seen no other parts of Canada than where they were born or live now too though.
