In the Classic timeline, Cenia based the Duraxyll's looks on the actual Gundams pulled into La Gias in a mass summoning event. In the Original timeline it is based in Huckbein. Fitting, as Huckbeins is a Gundam stand-ins in that timeline.

Technically it did, but with only the gba version of OG and OG2 and they didn't sell well.
I doubt it, the R-1 is the most Gundam-ish unit there is and it stuck around. Also Gespies are just Zakus, so.

Louis Brooks there is digest mode which covers the bulk of the story, but I understand what you mean, just not the same as actually playing the game.

No, the Huckebeins were quite literally the gundams of the OGverse. The R-1 I would put closer to Dragonar-1 in terms of what it resembles.
R-1 is more Zeta plus A1 with Shining Gundam power than Dragonar 1
