Antipolo Cathedral

About 20km east of Manila in the Sierra Madre foothills. Founded in 1578. Antipolo is the home of the icon of Nuestra Señora de la Paz y Buen Viaje (Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage). The icon, after repeated safe journeys between New Spain (Mexico) and the Philippines early in the 17th century, became known as the heavenly protector of Spains galleons. In 1632. it was moved to its present location which is now known as Antipolo Cathedral. It is the focus of pilgrimages each May and is a popular place for the blessing of vehicles. Many also isit the cathedral before or after a long journey .
