Omg..I almost feel like crying..silly really but I've struggled to draw and paint all my life. I've done your 'craft' type thing for near on 35 yrs and drawing and painting were the bane of my life. I virtually just finished a floor cloth and after hours n days spent trying to draw dragonflies on it, its looks like a 10yr old drew it 🤣, no offence you wonderful 10yr old out there 🥰
Im 62 yrs old and can't count the amount of complete failures that have gone in the bin..sigh.
I have water colour paints, oil paint, water colour pencils, crayons, chalk, inks, etc etc etc, 50 odd brushes and they sit like this lil group of monsters in my craft room darung me to pick them them up and I just simply ignore them because I know failure is the only outcome.
I can't tell u how very happy I am to have found your channel 😊
I've checked out the Lucida many times but the cost is beyond me. Now at least I have a chance of learning how to make one and possibly and finally fir the first time in 35 odd years paint something half way decent.
Cant thanku enough for all your years of investigating, experimenting and building this wonderful aid for all to enjoy. I've been a woodworker for years and build alot of things by myself with my lil collection of power tools.
Now it looks like I can combine my two loves, super excited.
I have your email address so will fire one off to u later today.
Again thanku from the bottom of my heart, im smiling big time and I think my heart just sped up a beat or 3 hahaha.
    Super excited and extremely grateful
    Cheers Kaz from Oz 🥰

@@karenmusa3052 from our perspective we've hit on a big problem and a way to solve it. It would be foolish to be selfish and secretive about such things.

I have my starter kit and I am about to build the basic stand. But I wanted to point out that you can have multiple stands that the mirror, rod and base fit on. All you need it more magnets. The cut out base on the tripod is an awesome idea! I look forward to building that one eventually and just popping the magnetic rod onto it.

HI EVERYONE! David is exactly right here. The booster kit is designed to encourage the first wave of Comparator Mirror users to experiment freely.

I would love more than anything to see a video or a comparator mirror being used on a large format print. Not just being used but explaining the obstacles that occur when doing a larger print. This was touched on in this video but a more in depth use/description would be fantastic.

Ok webpagedude.... this may take a few weeks but it's coming. Would a 5 ft by 5 ft painting be large enough?

    • @TwinkleTard
      @TwinkleTard 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@paintinglabofficial That size would be perfect (take your time, I'm in no hurry). Items to discuss and show visually: possible alignment issues that may occur, drawbacks to doing large scale with the comparator, best practices (is there an ideal way to go about this that may be easiest?), is it easier to paint large format on the wall or floor, could consistent lighting throughout be an issue for larger format, at what point would you possibly see there being a physical limit (could this be used on an exterior building wall?), how does one go about moving the mirror around while keeping it aligned. I understand the basics of a grid pattern but if you could show how to move from 1 grid to the next and show how to make sure they match up (up, down, left, and right) would click on a lightbulb for me. This is all I can think of off the top of my head. Thank you for all your videos, this channel is a wealth of knowledge and I appreciate your work.

Isnt this the same principle as the camera Lucida?.

I am curious, I have just recently received the booster kit from you and assembled the magnets (and even ordered more so as to experiment on different setups). I wanted to ask if you have found an ideal size to make the initial setup (the size of the base board and the backboard). I would assume that the 45 degree angle should make a line to the intersection of the two boards, and thereby determine the size, but I wanted to ask you first, before making those measurements and perhaps repeating what you have already found an answer to.

Hi Aeryck, yes your assumptions are pretty much correct. Did you recieve our instructions in an email as these will help you. Given the length of the boom in our booster kit optimal board size is around 12 inches sq but boom lengths do vary slightly from one kit to another so please do measure to find the point on your board that places your mirror at equal distances from both boards... hope that helps.

Thank you, that is how I understood the construction. I did not receive the email you mentioned, just the initial personal email that we exchanged of me asking about the kit.
