      Imagine what modifications to this instrument could do. Like letting the sound resonate through water or a tank of liquid nitrogen. Or different stiffness springs. different types of drums

    I built one of these a couple of years ago. One of the best feelings is playing an instrument you made yourself. It now has given me ideas on designing and building more unique instruments. Have you considered creating more instruments Ian? I wonder what this would sound like combining parts of the the yaybahar with a hurdy gurdy. Like the springs and drums. A yaybagurdy! If you ever build something like that or other instruments please show it off! :D

    Great demo and thanks for sharing your insight and build regarding the instrument!
    Ian, could you comment on the yaybahar as an acoustic instrument within the context of chamber music, say a string quartet? I'm curious how one would fare against classical strings, specifically when unamplified.

    • @ianhoneymanmusic
      @ianhoneymanmusic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think it could work really well and make for an interesting ensemble, but it's not the loudest instrument so it might have trouble cutting through when strings are playing loud.

    Hi Ian, looks great! Just don't fully understand how you attached the springs to the strings. Do the strings rest on the metal bridge, and the springs are attached to the bridge? If it is just 1 bridge, would the sound get murky since both springs are attached to the same bridge? Thanks!

      @@monstar4 well my story is hella complicated, (and depressing bcz i started the story when i was a more depressed person) but the most basic summary i can give is; two boys grow up together in catholic school, get feelings for each other and hide it from their conservative town, and then the main character out of the two ✨gets sick and dies at 20✨ (so wholesome yay) aaand then-- since i was edgy and the story came after the character, who was a demon-- goes to hell, BUT WAit- he finds out there's a way to go back to the "overworld" by (and this part still needs work so it could change in the future) by becoming a 'knight' for Lucifer, who goes by Lucy because this is an LGBT+ story of course he goes by that, so Noah eventually, in a very roundabout way, becomes a knight. Knights gotta be in groups of 3 or more so each member can make sure they're doing their job. But Noah breaks the rules to be with Jax (his partner) but he gets in serious trouble once his group finds out. The rest is fuzzy but eventually things get sorted out. There's no definite ending to the story but it works out in a happy way for them :)
      *gasps* YEAhp- its a lot, thanks for asking lol, can you share your story next?

    • @monstar4
      @monstar4 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CatchThesePaws Holly cow, that's pretty intense! My story isn't as complicated or deep...
      It's about a boy who is born a half demon. Throughout his entire life hes treated unfairly and unjustly. He eventually motivates himself to try his hardest to prove to everyone that he isn't the kind of demon everyone makes him out to be.
      He tries to do this by helping out other kingdoms and Nations with a world wide threat. The more people/kingdoms he helps, the more suspicious he becomes to them.
      Everone eventually accuses him of being an enemy spy, and they turn against him. This pushes him over the edge where he starts to consider joining the very enemies he was fighting in the beginning.
      My main character then has no choice but to leave the good side (the side that hates him). And join the bad side (the side that accepts him as a demon).
      In the end, there's alot of people/friends dying.
      Alot of characters regretting.
      And the main character realizing that you don't have to be whatever people act like you are.
      It's a little rough, and hard to explain. But that's the main plot of the story.

    • @CatchThesePaws
      @CatchThesePaws 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@monstar4 I love that so much! I like the fact that you’re acknowledging both sides, lots of stories only follow one side and never explore what the other is like. It’s funny how so many stories by gen Z’s that I’ve heard have demons as main or side characters! Like these inherently evil beings being portrayed as misunderstood and not wanting to be evil... it’s either inquisitive that we choose to write about underdogs treated like monsters or we just like edgy husbanos/waifus lmfao
