    No one has the soap anymore! At least in the U.S.
    I'm intrigued by the aftershave bottle though. That looks pretty badass.

    I got the Standard razor through Bespoke Post 6 month's ago. I really like it. My other razor is a Edwin Jagger de89. I use Perma Sharp or Feather blades in the Standard and get excellent results. The Bespoke Post kit came around $45 and had shave cream and a alum block, shave towel, and blades (a decent value).The included NY shave Co Cream is so so. I definitely prefer Stirling or Caties Bubbles. Happy shaving!

    I love those treet blades. The first time I used one was right after I had used a Astra SP and on my first pass I didn't think it was sharp enough but by the time I go to pass two I really started to appreciate how smooth the blade was.

    Very nice Nick. I like that Satin Tip The Purest brush which is a great travel brush. Soft, great feeling! Happy Halloween!!!

  • @Stoeff1987
    @Stoeff1987 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    This brush tends to gather the lather at the bottom of the hair. It helps if you simply squeeze it a bet right where the handle meets the hair to get the lather back up to the tips.

    I like your view on products in general. Modern shavegear might work for some people, but just like you I have sensitive skin, especially on my neck, and I used to hate shaving. Investing time, and money (because it has become a hobby of mine), I get a much better shave now, and it is more enjoyable.
    Was actually forced to buy a Barbasol can when I was NY last month, since I forgot my brush at home. Nothing compares to a good soap :)
    Have fun looking pretty in November ;)

    Nice I like the whole black theme shave. I went with hallows and a straight razor with black wolf whiskers synthetic. Log aftershave since that's the closest spice scent I have.

    Great video as always Nick. I used the Lebelle Pumpkin Spice soap today as my themed soap. I was introduced to Lebelle by you (not too many people know about that artisan). It is a really nice soap! I also like the Treet blades too (under utilized blade among other you tubers). I wouldn't say they are as good as Astra SP, Perma Sharp, Gillette SS or Personna, but they are in my top blades. Take care.Chris in N.H.

    havent done the bowl lathering yet still have some good foam left how do you know when the lather is " good " enough?

    • @scottyh1509
      @scottyh1509 ปีที่แล้ว

      Velvety, yogurt texture. Too little water and it will be thick, pasty, and "patchy". Too much water and it will be thin and "sudsy". Always load up the brush as dry as possible and begin the face lather, you can always add a little bit of water (sometimes drops are all you need, depends on the soap) as you go. If you add too much water, there's no going back...the lather is ruined.

    Hi Nick, Always wondered how often you change your blades? There is a lot of discrepancy of how many shaves you should have on the average blades? Cheers Enjoy No-Shave November!

    • @nickshaves
      @nickshaves  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Honestly, I keep blades for 1-3 shaves. I switch so much between razors and blades. If I was going with one razor, and one blade, I would keep it for 2-3 shaves

  • @boots1302

    Any opinion on changing what hand the razor is in depending on what side of face you're shaving? Shaving left side of face with left hand would keep you from awkwardly reaching over with dominant right hand. Wondering if it's worth it to try to build up weak hand razor skills to avoid the awkward reach.

    • @ashtonmcmullen6799
      @ashtonmcmullen6799 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jeff M i don't find it awkward at all to be honest... i find it much more uncomfortable to try to shave XTG in my non-dominant hand than reaching. just my opinion though.

    • @CMHobbies
      @CMHobbies 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jeff M unless you're ambidextrous, switching hands is asking for trouble. You want good control of a razor. I don't find it awkward at all. I just turn that part of my face toward the mirror if it's a reach across.

    Hey Nick...would this Standard Razor be a good one to move to from the Edwind Jagger DE89? I've been using that since I started and I'm thinking it might be time to move on to something new.

    • @ashtonmcmullen6799
      @ashtonmcmullen6799 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aaron Fenner they're both very mild. if you want something more aggressive, i'd look at a different razor. if you like the EJ and just want a little bit of a different feel (weight difference, etc.), the standard will be a good fit.

    • @nickshaves
      @nickshaves  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree! The Standard would be a good next razor, as would the Merkur 34c, or RazoRock Mission. If you are looking for something more aggressive, depending on your shaving style and how sensitive your face is, you could go with something more aggressive like an open comb or a slant razor. There are lots of good slants out on the market

    • @aaronfenner148
      @aaronfenner148 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks dank!
      I'm not looking for a different feel necessarily, because I believe that I will get used to the feel of whatever the next razor is. If there is a better shave to be had with a little more aggressive razor, then I'm ready to "take the training wheels off" and move on from the DE89.

    • @aaronfenner148
      @aaronfenner148 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    do you need a shaving bowl or can you just use literally any bowl from
    the kitchen?

    • @nickshaves
      @nickshaves  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't need a shaving bowl. For the first ~2 years of wet shaving, I bowl lathered a lot and just used a simple bowl from my kitchen, and it worked great. That being said, there are (obviously), specifically made shaving bowls that can help build the lather. Though they help, they are not 1005 necessary

      I believe if the soap is taken care of properly(dried after blooming, etc.) the soap will last years. Don't know why there is a 12m life on some soaps and maybe an artisan can chime in. Doesn't make sense that a soap would "expire".

    • @glytch5
      @glytch5 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I asked the maker of First Canadian on Etsy, he said about a year, maybe a little longer if frozen to preserve it. I imagine it is simply all the natural ingredients... natural stuff goes bad it spoils/goes rancid. I refuse to have more than 4 artisan soaps at one time unless they are small samples.
      Stuff like soap in a tube, or big branded stuff like proraso is probably okay. I hear the hard soap pucks last a long long time as well.
