- Canister filter cleaning is not at the top of anyone’s favorite list but it’s gotta be done eventually. Finally after over a year, it was time. I probably should’ve cut out a lot of time from the clip but more so wanted to show the struggles and hopefully help you NOT make the same mistakes I did.

hey mate, I have been running the Sunsun canister for some time now and I find the most efficient use is the following :
Bottom layer: Mechanical filtration from high PPi to lowest Filter floss
2nd Layer: Bio media - I use lava rock due to price :)
Top layer: Chemical or more Bio Media
The reason is the water moves up through the canister to the output so it will keep your bio media cleaner for longer.
Also you do not need to remove the intake as the clip cuts off both the intake and outtake when you pull the clip up to remove. Will save you a ton of time for the next filter cleaning.
Appreciate the tips! 🙏
Pondguru's videos are awesome at explaining that :)
Awesome, I’ll need to check it out
You what my friend I've heard that hole in the head is bcuz of water parameters maybe I don't know but hopefully that awesome looking flower horn do better
Thank you 🙏 I’ve battled it a couple times before. I’m hopeful that I am taking the correct measures. I believe it can be caused by multiple things but I do have faith he will bounce back soon!
It looks very hard job to do
Hey! Are those multi coloured dish scrubbies in the bottom? You don't use ceramic rings or anything like that in your canister? As you're talking I'm hearing my voice in my head saying the exact same things every time I cleaned my canister filter🤣🤣🤣I have an eheim and use the old school method to restart 🤢I actually watch a how to video when I'm restarting😂
Haha! Good old manual siphon. Yes! Plastic pot scrubbies from the dollar store. There’s research showing the different methods and how effective they are and pot scrubbies are in the middle somewhere. I just find them cheap and effective and have been using them for awhile. I have a lot of ceramic rings and bio balls just sitting in a drawer. I think one or two canisters do have them. Scrubbies and lava rocks are my goto.
@@JKFishKeeping 🥳love the new info. Thanks 😊
@cherylmartin9994 I appreciate you as always!
