What's wrong with Teenage Engineering..?

  • It is all about what field you would like to prioritize, I reckon. Will it be a designer table called a Field Desk, or will it be music instruments..? Teenage Engineering has lately been forcing the issue. To me as a music maker, investing in designer tables is hardly on the table, so to speak...

    Finally someone who can realize the difference between the intrinsic value of a product and it’s price tag. I love T.E., but I worry they’ll become unaffordable if consumer’s are too willing. Thanks for making this

      Thanks! I love TE myself. A camping table with aluminium legs, portable, and lightweight is at $60 at Amazon.... TE charges $1599 for theirs lightweight table built from plywood and recycled aluminium...

    IKEA also have Radios and other stuff in a really similar design, but not for 2k but 20dollar

      IKEA is a design company whose ideology is diametrically opposite of that of TE, indeed IKEA's main philosophy is to make excellent designed products affordable for the people.

    Some people pay thousands of dollars for a quick scribble on a piece of paper just because there is a signature from a guy called Picasso in the corner…

    • @axis_8
      @axis_8  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Picasso did many great paintings, imho, but when it comes to tables there's an immediate idea of utility, which paintings lack, hence tables can easily be compared and measured in many ways, and that's how we can derive intrinsic value... Much harder to do so with a pure esthetic object like a painting.

    Designer product, designer price tag I guess. I like TE, and have made peace with the fact I’ll never own one of their tables 😆

      I see that, I second your insight. I love TE myself. But such relationships tend to be hard. However, some criticism is necessary, even more so lately because of the newly released tape holder to the Field Desk. It will be yours for $79. TE is having a field day...👌

    sorry guys TE is not and was never a synth company. They are a design laboratory since day one. because they like music and had few product in this range does not oblige them to work only as a music company. Op-1 was a genius way of offering a new casio portable synth… As it become an unavoidable incredible machine they improved it after 10 years avoiding changing the initial philosophy . because it is the same initial product, just up to date. They can design chair or desk or whatever they want.
    1500 euro for a design desk is nothing insane. most of their product are uncompromised. that the TE signature. making only synth is a compromise they will never follow. thanks TE to be free.

      Spot on. They aren’t exclusively a synth or music company. They are indeed a design lab that happens to be interested music related devices… but not exclusively and they also have other interests. They are building what they want to build. Even if it’s not what a synth buyer may be interested in.

      It's a damn shame they release such corny products alongside such incredible music equipment.
      As a design brand, I'd have figured they'd be more skilled in marketing and managing their brand.
      Oh well, wouldn't surprise me if they release toothpicks at this point.
      Just hoping the utility and build quality will match the legendary OP-1.

    HAHAH!!!!!! oh, shit, man, where did you come from?
    I've been laughing for the last 20 minutes since I watched your first video where you give a demonstration of the West Pest. In thiis video you stated that you arrived at a sound which was like "Mud", "Like walking in mud, in the dark, thinking about 'Exorcist'". As soon as you said that I laughed harder than i have in at least a few weeks. Now this video? You're killing me!!! hahahah!!!!!
    Subbed, liked and i'm telling as many people as i can of your channel!!!!
    Great reviewing, brilliant humor.... Thank you for a great channel!
    Indeed, thanks!

      I think their plan is to become a furniture company as well. Not kidding, their latest news letter (received by email yesterday), is emphasising this development of the company.

    From one of the most expensive tables to one of the cheapest samplers. I’m not complaining with the KO II but I really don’t get it 😂 we’re they trolling us

    • @axis_8

      The new sampler is a veritable knock out, I agree. The table, a different kind of knock out. It's all about that, knock out variety. ✌️🤣

    OP1 is expensive too but can do a lot of stuff. But with their latest products I have no need at all for buying one or a TE product in generell.

    Is this selective outrage against TE in comparison to other companies that have a diversity of products outside of electronic instruments like Casio, Roland and Yamaha?
    Is it jealousy or obsession, that TE's products released to the public often start as internal projects, like a table they built for themselves that they have decided to sell to the general public?
    Or is this a video by someone that found other videos that support his biases, and decided to make a video and get attention or clicks to grow a channel?

    • @axis_8
      @axis_8  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I appreciate your input. It is simply a table of underwhelming intrinsic value, in my humble opinion, and I like to say that out loud, that is, instead of not speaking my mind. I know people will disagree. That's fine.
