    Some errors here: 1 The coriolis effect doesn't affect the water in your sink or toilet.
    2: The Bagdad battery was probably not a battery, since the people making it had no way of generating electricity to store in it, and it wouldn't store enough electricity to do anything with.

    • @TheDave159
      @TheDave159 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There isn't much evidence that it was or wasn't a battery. The only thing was that it was noted it could have been.
      It could just be another coincidence like the Greeks and Romans independently creating rail and steam power but never getting to trains.
      As for "not enough electricity" a potato can power a small device. There is no such thing as too little electric, especially if you can mass produce the source

    • @Epicchannelify
      @Epicchannelify 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@TheDave159 yeah i was thinking that to with the not enough electricity comment because the first thing that pops into my head is if they can make one they could make more and eventually theyd have enough to do something with. Also discovery doesnt require use im sure when many things were discovered they didnt immediately apply it but it's still a major discovery. Due to the lack of evidence i always work on the assumption it wasn't and it's just projecting our modern knowledge onto things of the past. There's probably millions of uses it could have had other than battery so until more information is found then its best not to jump to a huge conclusion like they had harnessed the power of electricity

    I think Smith is underestimating how difficult it is to swim 200m or even 100m without breathing. I used to be a competitive swimmer, and we used to do challenges in practice to see how long we could go without breathing. I would say most of us only got 50-75m (2 to 3 lengths of the pool), I don't think anyone ever got to 100m, and certainly not 200m. And these were all competitive swimmers who are far faster swimmers than the average person. Keep in mind it's not just about how long you can hold your breath period, it's also about holding your breath while exerting yourself physically, and the faster you swim to try and finish the distance faster, the more quickly you are expending energy and oxygen and will reach a point where you need to breath again.

      In the book it was a Whipple scrumptious fudgemallow delight. Their answer is from the 1971 film adaptation

    Wait...Smith pronounces "Barge" with the french J? (the ZH sound)
    A) I've never heard it pronounced like that
    B) I thought brits avoided the zh sound. I've heard them mangle the word garage into rhyming with carriage.
