I had to revisit this song. The first time I heard it, I couldn't listen to it all the way through because it literally made me feel nauseated to the point that I thought I might vomit. Hear me out. I generally have incredibly visceral responses to music, but usually it's just in the form of emotion, like crying because a song feels sad or anger if the song feels angry, etc. This was the first and only time I had that particular strong response, nausea. I'm still not sure why, but each time I tried again, same response. Listening to it again now, years later, my hands are shaking; but thankfully, no nausea. I love the lyrics. It's a fascinating story, and story telling songs are by far my favorite. So, it's not that I dislike the song or the music or anything. I actually love it! Everything about this song is freakin' epic! Wondering if anyone else reacts to music in such visceral ways?
I know this feeling fairly well. You listen to a song the first time and you don't like it. Then you listen to it repeatedly and the more often you listen to it, the more you like it. As far as I am concerned, these are the songs that never leave you again. I have also experienced the total opposite. The first listen is great, but the more often you listen to it, the weaker it becomes. Fortunately, I didn't have both of these with Skálmöld, I love this music for more than 7 years now. But see, you are not alone.
