Shout out to Metal Max Returns, which is this bizarre ass JRPG that fuses Dragon Quest with Mad Max. Classic turn-based content where you obtain and customize tanks, and run around killing monsters with shotguns and pistols instead of swords and magic.
Game is also crazy focused on its economy with 'weekly hunts' and lots of bounty hunting jobs where you're taking out post apocalyptic gangs and shit. Such a unique setting for the genre at that time.

I have to look into that one. I see that they're still making Metal Max games, because one was released on PS4 and Switch. If it's the same franchise?

It is! But I haven't played the newer titles and I haven't heard the best things. I did hear that Metal Max 3 on DS is supposed to be super solid though.
All that said, a lot of people have been sorta looking to the very recently released Sand Land as a bit of a modern successor to the franchise, and I've been planning to dive into that soon!
