This is such a sick battle! I actually like Cathay setting up an outer wall defense considering the Ogres can just break the walls down with their basic monstrous infantry
I love how this cinematic shows that even when charging low-defense ranged units like Crane gunners, Ogres fail ultimately. In real campaigns though, I just get a lord, an alchemist, 2 artillery pieces, 4 melee infantry to provide Harmony buffs and the rest 12 are Jade crossbowmen. Put them in checkerboard formation, see how they evaporate everything an AI throws at you.
With Ogre's i've noticed that flanking is a must. If you charge all your troops towards the enemy line straight on you're going to get slaughtered. My Ogre armies I always Send the Ironguts straight at the enemy line to get their attention and then when their ranged are fully engaged i send my vanguard deployed gorgers from their rear and my Ogre bulls around the side. Usually works to take out most armies. At least in the early game. And as always any anti large army is going to tear through you.
Loved it at 23:23 when the Ogre dude comes charging in and winding up to make a massive blow, only to have Cathay dude one shot him by hitting him first with a shot to the mouth! "I'm going to hit you! I'm going to hit you!" [POW!!] "Sleepy time now!" Dude took it on the chin and just toppled over dead! 😆
for those wondering ab0out the mod units not listed in the description get this mod, and the two required mods Cathay Warriors of The East (English Patch) this mod is of course just a translation, but when you go to it, you will see the first required mod, and from there it will require another mod. those two mods are the ones with the units, this one is just for english translations. but is a good way to find the mods

Looks like we'll never see animations better than in Shogun 2, in Total War series. I can't see an impact of every knock, of ever canon shot, like I felt before.
I love these battles but i wish we could see the strength of each army once in awhile. Its hard to tell what is going on overall with so much close up fighting. Its awesome 👍 keep it up

Cool battle although one critique is at 5:25 when the cannons get overran you think that as a general you would have an infantry unit positioned behind the cannons to move up and defend them when the enemy charges. Landsknecht and Swiss pikemen etc.. did this in most early modern warfare battles.
Yea it was really cringe of the Cathay player to leave the ranged undefended, they should have been pulled back for the second defense line once the main line was broken. Watching them just get instantly charged and shredded almost made me stop watching.

I only just started playing total war but I’ve been killing it with Cathay Winning battles the auto resolve says I’d lose decisively Can’t stop playing it
And that's because walls aren't really balanced for sieges, especially against Ogres. It's funny that the army has to protect the wall instead of the other way around.
Played the game, but rarely do any defensive battles cause it's better to march to the enemy rather than to wait as your army deteriorates from 1 turn.
Cathay's air commander needs to be fired. They have near-complete air superiority. The entire battle space is their target, and yet they're focused on the front lines.
What ive learn't from Warhammer games. If you want a race to sound either vicious, evil, sneaky or a bit stupid, give them a Cockney accent. If you want a race to sound stoic, stubborn and stumpy, give then a Yorkshire accent. If you want a race to sound, uppity, aloof, cruel and/or pointy eared, give them a posh, upper class accent. 😆😆
Some of the unit aesthetics of this is better than the original. So this is after Greasus get his act together and stopped being mobility scooter rider.
