To be fair, the Japanese aren't so squeamish about blood. Also, the show is more surreal then outright violent. An old tom and jerry cartoon has more violence, it's just the blood here and there makes people think it's alot worse. I guess it's just perspective. You might find alot of the surreal moments fall into the horror category, while others might find it amusing or just strange. If you take out the blood and tone down the odd aspects of the show a tad, it's much easier to see that it's at heart a kids show.
