    I’m 68 and last few years decided not to hunt much in sept and October. I have 5 farms in south east Nebraska 1000s of acres all to my self mostly family farms and a few from church. I live in Missouri and hunt last week of October and first 2 weeks of November. I have 28 ladder stands and have been saddle hunting for 30 years so unlimited trees to hunt from. I pretty much hunt where I feel like and play the wind, only have 3 cameras out and just like to see what shows up. My hunting life is simple. I do have 29 bucks on the wall and only one is PY but they are all a trophy to me. Good luck to all.

    Ive found very few rubs on our farms that has the most pictures of up and coming and mature bucks, 1 other farm has a couple rubs and i just went on a speed scouting mission yesterday on a 750 acre public piece in my county and found more rubs than ive seen anywhere else. Got a picture of a super small fawn with a lot of spots on it still also. Seeing just as many scrapes as ever on our private pieces though. But i have to say ive noticed we dont have nearly the rubs we had back 20 years ago. I appreciate everything you guys do.

    Completely agree. I've done it, did it this morning out of just being excited to get out there. Seen plenty of deer but buck just seem to disappear. I see them but not in the same places. Their food sources are shifting as well.

    I’m in TN. I’ve seen more rubs than what I would call normal on two farms I hunt, with almost nothing on the home farm. The two farms have a few decent 3-4 year olds while the home farm occasionally sees a ghostly buck I know to be 5 as well as several around 2-3. I do not hunt mornings until the cold starts. Never killed anything decent untill the end of October in the mornings.

      We actually don’t edit anything out. If you hear areas that are chopped it is one of two reasons 1.) don’s internet isn’t the best and it stalls or 2.) i run the video file and through a software that takes out the Umms and pauses that we have while recording. That process takes a 3 hour editing project into a 1 minute software function but it is a tad choppier. Everything we say stays in the recording though. Thanks for listening.

    Well. I smoked one of my old wide target bucks in the first 15 min of opening morning. I hunted the rain the whole rest of the week with a doe tag basically just to watch deer since I was on Hunting Vacation. Saw a bunch of nice 2 yr olds in the evenings. Never saw another older buck. Sooo that advice would have cost me dearly.

    Problem for some like us in Maine archery season is basically October. Opening day was yesterday oct-5 and we can't hunt Sundays at all. Gun season starts November -2 but before that youth gun day is October 25&26 and it's great to give young kids a couple days alone but oct-5 to Oct-25 minus Sundays doesnt even give bow hunters a full three weeks before the orange army comes out. And the state changed it a few years back so crossbows are allowed in archery season now which is a whole nother issue. If your disabled I understand but if your a capable 20something or 30something year old no. Everytime I'm at Cabela's or other sporting stores I see 3-4 people walking out with crossbows , and I'm sure most never archery hunted before but now they use a crossbow it's an extra season for them. It has a scope and trigger shouldn't be in archery season. So add that all together and rule out mornings that really limiting the chance of getting a good buck with a bow. I wish Maine did somethings, a lot of things different but it's all about the money to them.

    maybe that doe identified as being in heat? Haha jk. I've seen studies where a doe comes into heat at the same time every year with 7 days one way or another. Makes sense to me cause I see fawns on my cameras born in May/June all the way to late August. Every year. On another note We have a fair amount of apple trees on our property, mature apple trees and most years I can fill a trash can every evening and dump it to my pigs but this year maybe 10 apples in each tree. I dunno if we had a late frost or I do know we had a very dry june & July , I got worried and against my judgement walked out into to the woods to check the oaks and make sure we had acorns . That about it for natural food on our property apples and acorns and had me worried. Any ideas ? Never seen it, every year these apple trees produce 1000s.

    I don’t get why so many of these guys say don’t hunt the morning?? I could understand if you only hunted on a food source. Mornings you can use the thermos to your advantage. I’m not a professional hunter & I’ve killed 7 bucks all pope & young class deer ranging from 132 to 166 5/8 all with a bow all in the morning. Not everybody can sit around & take off time from work just to hunt evenings. I hunt the wind & when I can. Yes I have killed 13 big bucks in the evenings but I contribute that to the rut. I’ve killed several big bucks on mid day from all day sits. My point is, don’t let some professional hunter tell you how to hunt take bits and pieces from their advice. Always hunt the wind, pay attention to your entrance and departure that has a lot to do with it and different trains need to be hunted differently. sometimes you have to split the wind because a big buck is more comfortable, moving when the windows in his favor meaning if it’s in your favor, it’s not as likely to see him. my advice is to hunt smart & don’t take chances on pushing your target buck onto the neighbors property

    Sorry Don, I disagree. If a high pressure cold front comes through on a good moon phase I'd much rather be in a tree than being lazy and not going. I've seen the Druys, Winke, and Lakosky all hunt mornings and all have killed big bucks in the morning in early October. Maybe a little more good deer are killed in the evenings, but bet your hind end there a plenty of good deer put down in the morning. I'm not saying to go all the time either just the days the stars line up. Monday morning, when here in southern Indiana the temperature drop from Sunday evening is going to be a 35 degree drop. Add the fact it's a good moon phase. I'll be in a tree my first time this year. Oh and my success rate is about 50/50 evenings vs mornings. I think the way the property you hunt lays out has something to do with that rate. Maybe, you Don haven't had good morning luck while I know for a fact Mark Drury had killed probably more deer in the mornings than in the evenings. Ima nobody as you would put it but I'm being honest here I think telling people not to hunt mornings is wrong. Again, just for you and the way your property dictates hunts doesn't mean that's the same for everyone else.... I love learning things from you but I'm also the type to not sit back and not speak my mind. Now I'm on a mission to shoot one in the morning just to have your so called proof. I think that's a little hard headed. Also Mike Reed from Midwest whietail has also killed giants in the mornings. I only hunt cold fronts in October though so I am not one that hunts all October.

    • @chrisking9424
      @chrisking9424 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      100%. Maybe the reason Don doesn't kill in the morning is because he's not in the tree. Same with the moon guys that only kill on a red moon because that's when they hunt. I'm not saying go hunt whenever but you can definitely kill October mornings if conditions are right, and weather is often beautiful to sit in a tree October mornings.

      I actually stopped hunting mornings before I had my property. That was based on hunting permission properties and public lands way back in the day. Obviously, everyone is entitled to their opinion but without the proof on the wall .... How about seeing if you can get one of the hunters you named to go on the record saying that they have had more success on October morning hunts than October evenings??? Anyway, best of luck to you this season no matter when you choose to hunt.

      @chasinggiantswithhigginsou6147 every property is different Dom. And I have heard Mark say this before. Not necessarily that early season mornings are better but that any morning on a cold front is good. I think it really depends on the way the property lays, the wind direction, and where they like to bed. In the right circumstances it could be a better morning property than evening property or vice versa. It really just depends because where I'm from the predominant wind is from the south west whereas Iowa for example is from the north west. KY more from the south it just depends. I'm also not saying that I go sit every morning I have yet to sit. I was waiting for the right moon phase and just so happens that a cold front happens on the second day of a red moon. I can access the bedding area without bumping them. And it's far enough away that I should catch daylight movement. We shall see. Thanks for responding Dom Goodluck to you I hope you kill the buck you named after the same person I was named!
