I actually figured it out a few years ago when I had a band that used to cover it. Something like: "Eyes that shine, sings all the time in morning and at evening. Eyes that shine when she says hello and shine when she is leaving Now across the Western sea she's gone under the ancient sun Eyes that shine, I'll miss you when your traveling has begun Eyes that shine, sings all the time in morning and at evening. Eyes that shine when she says hello and shine when she is leaving When she's come ceased to be gone and has returned and found the ancient shore I hear her voice from across the sea and see her eyes that shine once more Eyes that shine, sings all the time in morning and at evening. Eyes that shine when she says hello and shine when she is leaving" AFC is really the best.
@@sadcatlotr sounds right to me!! plus after looking up lyrics for all these different folk songs that AFC covered on Circuits, the songs are so old and orally passed down, the lyrics shift from version to version. Anyway, that's awesome you figured it out!!! thanks
Joey Zee I was under the impression that this tune on there was an original actually. The notes on the gatefold LP don’t specify which are which but I’ve always found it to stand out stylistically in terms of the songwriting and could never find an origin for it. The way it treats the Mixolydian modal stuff and the change in mood accompanying the major-minor shift between the refrain and verse would be out of character for the Appalachian tunes they used
Lumpendesarrollo well, I suppose I jumped the gun with my assumptions lol. I owned this CD ~20 years ago (omg, that realization just made me feel old) after a record shop guy/friend let me listen to it when I was stumped about what to get. This album is deeply ingrained in my head with many experiences all these years. I just remember reading the liner notes about him making all the amps and instruments and a mention about the folk origins of the songs but now that u mention it, it seems obvious some of the tracks are original. I always just assumed lol. If u search TH-cam I’m pretty sure there is a live show from the tour of this album (WITH the female singer!!!) or at least I know I talked with someone who was going to upload it🤔...I can’t remember!!🙆🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🙇🏻♂️
do u have the lyrics to this song?? google didn't help considering the number of songs with similar titles!
