I did London and Amsterdam last year, two weeks apart. London was supposed to be my goal race, but had an abbreviated training block after an injury. Went out too fast and hit the wall. Took Amsterdam steadier and loved it and finished with a better time. Between them, I just did a couple of short runs and parkruns but also did the Adidas City Run Islington as it finished at the Emirates Stadium and couldn't miss that opportunity!

I've done back-to-back weekends and found it to be a blast! I actually did better the second weekend and it was a hillier course!

Hi Ben, I have done the double with 4 weeks in between Berlin and Rotterdam in 2021. My approach has been to take a full week break from running, and then add runs of 1-2 hrs at easy or steady pace in wk2, in week 3 I added a tempo run before starting to taper again in the weekend ahead of wk 4.
My recovery period from the first race really ended at the start of the second.
I ran a PB in the heat of Berlin at 3:28, and having achieved my goal there I went to Rotterdam keeping all options open, feeling good on the day I risked it all by going for a PB again.
Looking back it was a great but risky experience...
Good luck with your running, I love your positive attitude on your vlogs! Keep going strong!

When I ran 12 in 12 months in 2017 I had a week between Windermere and Liverpool and ran a PB in Liverpool. I also ran NYC Marathon followed by Running the Rift Marathon in Uganda just 5 and a half days apart. Think that NYC came over weeks after Budapest Marathon which was 3 weeks after Berlin. Great times but took me a long time to recover ater starting to notice how injured I was at Rome Marathon in 2018.

Very sensible advice Ben especially resting and enjoying your easy runs in between . I’ve been running marathons or ultras about every 3- 6 weeks for some years now. On 108 completions The other things I have found useful is to do a pilates session each week and a sports massage after every month or two or when you feel tightness developing.

I ran London last year.. had a great training block until I picked up an injury… I decided to do an ultra marathon 6 weeks before London and paid for it. Lesson learnt. I blew up at London and had a terrible finish.
2 weeks after London I ran Chelmsford marathon to prove all the training wasn’t wasted. This race went way better and I enjoyed it.. even at the back end :)
Love the videos and all your content!

Great video as always. In 2017, ran Boston, which is always on a Monday, and then London 6 days later. Boston was tough given 23 C sunny weather, and even by the Saturday of London I could still hardly jog - so I definitely would not recommend that combination. But, I was in Hokas as it was pre-Vapor/Alphaflys so perhaps in 2022 would now be easier on the legs. And surprisingly ......ran London 4mins quicker (2,58), so read into that what you will. Ran 2021 London and then York (the original York not US upgrade) two weeks later, and that was way more sensible (?). Good luck in Manchester - I'll see you for the first 100m or so

I've done so many but have to say my favorite back to back was Two Oceans 56k followed by London Marathon a week later!

I ran Berlin and London in 2021 - a week apart. Managed to run 2.38 at both races. The days between were v. different to my normal schedule. Sun afternoon/evening - lots of walking. Mon lots of walking (sightseeing in Berlin and walking through airports). Tues nothing. Wed 5 miles with the aim to try to get down to MP in the middle (at least MP effort) to see if the body was OK - the middle mile at 6m/m felt surprisingly good. Thurs nothing. Fri 4 mile jog (split up by a walk around a supermarket looking for carbs). Sat nothing. I felt pretty good at the start in London, though I overshot by 5s/mile in the opening 8 miles and my quads shut down pretty hard on the Isle of Dogs. Never again ;-)

Running my first ever half marathon tomorrow at the Wokingham Half, looking forward to it! Have watched quite a few of your videos during my training which have really helped, so thank you 👍 depending on how well it goes tomorrow I've got my eye on the Yorkshire Marathon in October 😃

Great video Ben, I'm in the Ballot for London but have now signed up for Chelmsford Marathon, which is two weeks after so I may be revisiting this video. Although given the odds of getting into London, it's unlikely!!

Hi Ben, Last year I ran 10 Marathons in 10 days. This April I will be running 12 Marathons in 12days.
This is part of my first 100 mile training plan.

I’ve not done a double marathon yet. This will change this year when I’m doing the London Marathon and then a week later Chicago. It’s going to be very interesting. I can’t wait.

@@BradleySingerRuns awesome! Congrats on that, that’s a major accomplishment. Other than nutrition, rest, massage gun, massage, a couple of light runs (to keep legs moving) is there anything more to consider for that week inbetween? Did you go with your standard workout plan for the first marathon, and just keep the momentum going for the second? Is a longer taper of benefit (my longest run 22miles is usually 3 weeks out from race date). Thank you, and apologies for bombarding you with all these questions.

Multi day ultramarathons, and 6 weeks between other ultras. Although ultras are a different beast to road marathons 🙂

I did two marathons in 24hrs in the first covid lockdown. Did 2hrs 57mins for the first one and 21hrs later 2hrs 54mins. Not sure I'll be stupid enough to try it again, but I reckon I could have scraped another sub 3hr marathon a day later.
