    Cruiseman, I found that you CAN fish the pogo pin end UP to the handlebars, instead of trying to fish the 12V-5V step down block DOWN to the fusebox. That's how I mounted mine, and I didn't have to remove a single piece of body plastic.

    I ran the wires up from the battery to the bars.
    The "12 volt to 5 volt transformer" stayed near the gas tank, and I was able to fish the small connector up thru the left side pretty easily to the left side mount.
    Also, I used a philips screwdriver to loosen the plastic cover under the bars without having to lift the center console. With the cover loose, the small power wire laid along side the other bundles of wires. Saved a lot of time this way.
    PS: The Zumo XT has a very bright screen. Nice! But no provision for TPMS (if that is a consideration for your older bike).

    • @417ah7
      @417ah7 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@hansscholz5914 I started at the top left side using a 2 foot long heavy duty zip tie. I was able to gently work it along the left side of the frame under the plastic bodywork.
      It eventually came into view down near the left side of the gas tank. Then I securely taped my wires to the end of the zip tie, and then pull them both back up to the open area just left of the handlebar area.
      The long plastic zip tie works much better than a piece of copper wire or other hard object.

      @@417ah7 Thanks for your quick reply. I tried it many, many times exactly the way you described it, but I was never able to get the pogo pin through the opening just below the handlebar area. I finally tried it on the right side, and there it worked! Luckily the wires are long enough, so getting from the fuse box to right side of the gas tank and then back to the left under the handlebar is not a problem at all, and the wire is completely out of sight.

    Thanks Cruiseman. I'm ok with the Honda gps on my 2019 Goldwing. I hear what your saying regarding your opinion of the on board system. My complaint about the on board system is the small country back roads are not labeled ! That's where I do most of my riding. I like to take my way to the destination which is often a different way then the GPS wants to take me. Consequently I don"t use the guidance . I simply know the roads I'm supposed to take and use the GPS for location only. But if the roads aren't labeled I miss my turn. Is there an update I didn't get or is there a different scale to use to get the system to identify by name the smaller roads? Thanks always for the great videos. Dave.

    I have an XT ordered. I would like to be able to sit in my easy chair with it and design trips on the trip planner. Is there any way to get 12 volt power to the unit when it’s not on the bike ? I wouldn’t mind using a small 12 volt battery kept in the house. But how would one keep the contacts touching when unit is not locked in the cradle ? Could one purchase an automotive cradle and power cord and rig up a connection that way ? I know that base camp exists, but have read many complaints about it. And I believe the XT has some stand alone internal battery capacity but I’d still prefer to power it while playing around with it. Thanks.

      For 60% of owners, the Honda GPS will probably be fine. After all, many riders don't even use a GPS, and if they do, it is for finding the nearest gas station. What is the unit’s internal memory capacity - previous models couldn’t even handle complete North American maps (I’m guessing there’s too many POI), to me that was a big issue if you were planning a cross country/north american trip. 2nd. • @cruisemansgarage
      @cruisemansgarage 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on your headset. Most higher end headsets (Sena 50S, Cardo PackTalk) will have two separate channels (A/B or 1 and 2). You should pair the Goldwing to your headset using Mobile Phone pairing (Channel 1 or Channel A). This will deliver the bike's audio through the headset. Then, pair your XT using GPS pairing on Channel B (or channel 2). When you do this, any navigation audio will mute the Channel A/ or Channel 1 audio temporarily, then return the control to Channel A/1 after the navigation instructions. DO NOT pair your phone to the headset. Instead, pair your phone to the Goldwing.
