Since December 2017, Pampers has been rallying the nation to say thank you to the UK’s 40,000+ midwives after it was revealed 1 in 3 feel underappreciated.
Did you know 72% of babies in the UK are born outside of normal working hours? And 4am is the peak time for births! With around 54,000 births due to take place in December, midwives continue to work tirelessly around the clock to bring new life in to the world.
Here’s how you can get involved to say #ThankYouMidwife…
    - Share your #ThankYouMidwife story…for every 1,000 shares of the hashtag across social that tags Pampers, Pampers will makeover a staffroom in a maternity ward across the UK (they’ve already committed to making over 10 staffrooms so far on top of this!)
    - Download and donate to the Royal College of Midwives….Pampers has enlisted the help of mum and supporter of midwives, Paloma Faith, to encourage parents to share their appreciation. Paloma has recorded an exclusive cover of the much loved Christmas hit, Silent Night which will feature in the new advertising campaign. Download ’Silent Night’ by Paloma Faith and the #ThankYouMidwife choir and for every download, Pampers will donate £1 to The Royal College of Midwives Benevolent Fund to help midwives in need! My wonderful midwife Andrea stayed 3hrs over her shift to see Thea in to the world all because earlier in all my madness I made her promise not to leave me! She kept her promise- an angel from heaven who I till this day have nothing but love and admiration for x

Aw I just cried watching this! I had my first baby in March this year at home using hypnobirthing and my midwife Maria was just perfect. I didn’t want any intervention and she was completely respectful and just held my hand the whole time. I was so in the zone that time is all distorted but I knew she was there. My baby arrived but was very tiny and wasn’t breathing properly so they dealt with him very quickly, my husband went in the ambulance with our son and Maria stayed with me to birth the placenta which unfortunately didn’t happen there as I think my body just clammed up at thy point. Maria stayed with me in the ambulance and made sure I got settled. She came to see us the next day and that’s when I found out she was in the midst of planning her mother’s funeral! 😢 there are no words. Well except Thank you Maria with all our hearts. We are all happy, safe and well because of her dedication and unwavering commitment in the saddest of times. ❤️🙏🏻

I had the most amazing student midwife with me in August when I had my first baby. She’d been with me from my first appointment which I know is rare and she made, what could have been a very scary experience, completely amazing and safe for me. I was so lucky to have here there.

What a gorgeous and very true and reflective birth story, Gi! Third babies can be pickles but they always keep you on your toes. As midwives, we don't do the job for the thank you we get at the end. We do it because we are passionate about supporting birthing people and their families through the life journey of pregnancy, birth and the fourth trimester of postnatal care... so when we get thank you's.... it's the icing on the cake! So special and treasured! Xx

We had our third little girl on 23rd August 2018. My midwife was so so lovely, she sat back and trusted me and my body. She reassured me that I could do it when I needed the reassurance. She was perfect for us. She also broke my waters because we were stuck at 4cm and baby Imogen was born just 10 minutes later! I am so in awe of the incredible job they do. Such a special and valued job

A good midwife makes a huge difference! I was looked after by some amazing midwives. I had the same to break or not to break waters for the same reason with baby 3. 20 minutes later out she flew back to back, hand on head. My experience was so good after terrible times with babies 1 and 2 that im now a student midwife myself.

Congratulations on the birth of baby Max!
Last year I gave birth to our little boy in a hospital in Germany. I was nervous about giving birth to a baby in a foreign hospital but the midwife we had was incredible. She was so kind and put us both as ease.
After our son was born and we were about to be wheeled out of the Labour ward she came up to me and held my hand and said it was such a privilege to deliver our baby as my husband and I were so polite and kind to her and that it isn’t something that always happens, which really shocked me!

Thank you for sharing Gi. I had my first baby at Telford, Shropshire. The maternity unit is getting a lot of bad press this week and has been for a number of years. However, myself and my NCT Tribe all had our babies (9 in total) at the same hospital within weeks of each other. And not one of us can fault the care we were given by the midwives. My own experience may be described as traumatic by some but from the moment I was admitted to the moment my baby was safely in my arms I was fully supported. Unfortunately I ended up back in hospital a week after I had my baby and was very touched that the midwife who helped deliver my baby came to find me to check I was ok. So to the midwives at Princess Royal Telford - a big massive thank you from myself, 6 other mums and our 9 gorgeous babies. Xxx

Midwives are amazing! I had two amazing births. The first in a MLU which sadly closed while I was pregnant with my second baby- so I opted for a home birth. It was amazing. I had two awesome midwives who came into my home. We all sat and watched TV together while my laboir progressed fairly quickly (when one arrived at 730pm I was already 5cm dilated and he arrived at 230am on his due date the next day). One of the midwives left once they knew he was all good and the other midwife took me up to my bathroom and literally bathed me and helped me into bed before leaving. #thankyoumidwife

My midwives were amazing but the student Midwife Hannah was astounding. She made my birthing experience so pleasant and she was a real star. She gave me support and kept a close eye on me the whole time and helped keep me calm. I did hypnobirthing to a degree in terms of breathing and my birth the second time round was so much more pleasant. I let my body take over and I will always be grateful to my midwives for that.
Well done to all midwives out there. You do an amazing job.

The kind midwifes that helped me through my labour and delivery meant the world to me. three\ midwifes in perticular. I was in labour for 46 hours and had one midwife for the entire of her 12 hour shift and was ever so greatfull for her support and kind words that keept me, hubby and my mum going through that sleep deprived time. the other midwife worked tirdlessly to get us out of the hospital after beeing in for 5 days she made me feel like the only person she was helping. the third midwife really helped me hand express to feed my son untill he caught on ( though he NEVER did) because of her my milk supply came in and i was at least able to express to feed him. midwifes are amazing q

I never knew midwives were even still a thing until a few years ago! That’s how unapreciated they are 😂
I’m not a mum yet (only 21 here) but really want a kid eventually. It’s really reassuring that these people exist because even though I want it, it terrifies me. Also, your birth stories always make me feel more secure in what I want. I read your book and got really emotional over it. You don’t deny the “ugly” side of things but understand and communicate the worth in the good❤️

I haven’t had children yet but I do a therapy session with a wonderful midwife called Alice. I’m sure she won’t mind me sharing but she isn’t able to have children of her own and considers midwifery her way of giving back to the world - bringing children into the world and in that way, in a tiny way, each baby she delivers is a little part her own. That truly inspires me every day.

My midwife for my 3rd and last baby was amazing. The doctor had said I was taking too long and would have to have a c section. This midwife knowing that I did not want that politely told the doctor to leave and trusted my body to do what it would do. Which is exactly what happened! She also stayed so long past her night shift finishing just to support me.

My midwife when I had my second child was stern and blunt so I was a bit taken back but, do you know what, i think i really needed that at the time and I'm grateful now that she was like that. I was on my own and my husband was an hour away in rush hour traffic, baby was going into distress and I needed an emergency csection so it actually helped that I wasn't mollycoddled and she was very matter of fact about everything. In the end, my 10lb son was born just as my husband got to the hospital.

I had the exact same issue, my boys head was on a angle, and nothing happened and he never engaged even when I was at 10cm dilated. I was saying no to all examinations but then realised how long I was in labour so I let them check me, and I'm so glad I did as they only discovered this then and he kept hitting his head on my pelvis bone. He was slightly bruised when he was finally out, they had to put thier hand in and turn his head in order for him to get out 😵😵😵.

I've had 3 babies too and my third was definitely the most difficult because, like Max, she had got herself in a funny position. Therefore I had a lot of back pain. I'm so grateful to not just the midwives but to the Dr that delivered my 3rd and very awkward baby xx

We had the most amazing midwives when I went into the hospital to have our boy. We had a super lovely student midwife to start with and poor love looked a bit freaked but I was so chilled. She was trying to put the doughnut heart monitor thingies on my bump and couldn't find baby's heartbeat. But it was okay, No panicking here. She went to get her supervisor and they both came back. Turned out that baby was in breech and she couldn't find his heartbeat because he wasn't in the expected position. The midwife found his heartbeat straight away and we all breathed a sigh of relief but she had to get the doctor too as we'd just become high dependency/complicated birth. Well, then I chatted to the doctor and a surgeon. We had time to spare as I was only at 1-2cm so we were very chilled discussing what the options were and how things were going to happen, then having conversations with my Mum because we were going to need her help with extra care at home etc. We decided we were going straight to surgery, we were given the option for me to try and naturally deliver but there was a higher risk of complications for baby as well as higher risks of tears etc. So off we went and thank goodness we didn't try to labour naturally - our boy was 9lb 14.5 which is big for my small frame and his newborn head was so big it was off the newborn scale in the red book (my Mum brought a 9-12 months or 1-2-year-old hat with her when she came to see us in the hospital because none of the knitted newborn ones in the hospital box were big enough! We were so blessed by all the amazing staff they just looked after us so well leading up to the delivery (After was a slightly different story but on the whole we were so well looked after)

My midwife was my mum's and she saved my big sister's life when my sister was born at home in 1956 and there was a young inexperienced midwife who because my sister didn't cry after being born left her at the end of mum's bed and mum's proper midwife saw her she got hold of my sister by the legs and upside down backed her back and she cried she was such an amazing she has died now but I love her to bits because I have my amazing big sister

Midwives are absolutely incredible people all of mine I had along the way with both of my babies were amazing in their own ways :) such a lovely video
Can I ask why you went with a name beginning with m.wheb your two others behind with b? I have two children whose names beginning with r and think if I was to have another I would stick to the same letter again
No hate or anything it's a gorgeous name in just interested if there was a reason behind it ❤️

Back pain in labour is the worse. With my last baby we had a great midwife half way through labour i was examined to find out she was breech. My daughter was born with natural breech birth with an epidural 20 mins past the end of my midwifes shift but she wanted to stay and see it though so ended up with the day midwife, night midwife, student midwife, dr, consultant, paediatric dr and another midwife with her in the room with me plus theatre staff on standby. She was fine

I have nothing but positive things to say about my midwives. On my first baby they were a dream, I was in a zone and they just left me in that zone. I had diamorphine with my first, I didn't want an epi so I stuck to that and gas and air. The diamorphine well and truly wore off, I asked for more and the midwife said you can't have anymore yet, you will have to wait 2 hours or have an epi, so I said I'll wait. So 2 hours later I was still in labour which had progressed so much. I was still on the gas and air, I think I asked for the diamorphine I don't fully remember cause gas and air makes you feel a bit merry, a bit out of it. She went to get it and by the time she got back which was probably seconds (but felt like hours lol) I was pushing him out, a few pushes later he was here my beautiful baby boy weighing 5lb 15oz. Amazing experience that I still have very fond memories of and makes me want another 😂.
Then for my 2nd baby I had regular growth scans from 28 weeks as my little boy was small for a full term baby so they wanted to monitor me and baby. I had one at 28 weeks, 31 weeks, 34 weeks and that was up until 39 weeks. Anyway I went to my 34 week scan and she hadn't grown from the last one 3 weeks ago, I'd been on a couple of times with reduced movements and with that information they decided to induce me. So in I went on the Friday just excited to see my baby girl and get told they will induce me on Monday 😱 I was shocked. I could of fallen over, I did not expect it at all. Went in on the Monday and she managed to give me a sweep before inserting the pessery. Started having contractions thick and fast not long after. They then subsided completely so hubby went home for a bit of sleep then again WHAM they hit thicker and faster than before and I had to press me button to get help, they called downstairs to the ward to say I was coming. One of the 4 or so nurses around me had to ring my hubby to come back, thankfully as it was very late like 1 ish no traffic, so he got to me quickly. She was born at 2.18 weighing 3lb 14oz, she then spent 2 weeks in special care which was very hard but she's 2 now and doing great. Midwives on special care are AMAZING also. And I love watching and heating birth stories I could listen to them all day. Very sad to hear a lot feel undervalued, I had no idea until recently. I hope the ones I had don't feel like that. I know some have bad experiences but for me nothing but postives.
Bit congratulations on the safe arrival of max, he's so adorable. And sorry for the longest comment ever 😂

I was 3cm dilated when I had my appointment at 39 weeks and my water broke when I was 39.6 weeks, got to the hospital and I was 5cm dilated and from there it took 3.5 hours before I had my baby in my arms. I pushed for 10 minutes 😂 they told me my second was gonna come first and boyyy they were right! Baby #3 will probably come out if I sneeze too hard! 😂

I mean if you don’t have “dilates very quickly” on your CV you’ve missed a trick ;) pahah. I’m expecting my 2nd in very early February and absolutely SHITTING MYSELF. I think because my first labour went perfectly to my plan I feel like something has to go wrong this time. Awful mindset to have I know 😬

Midwives are amazing I had sue with all 4 of mine and if it wasn't for her my 3rd baby wouldn't even be here,as she had turned and wrapped the cord around her neck twice,so was emergency c-section to save my daughter's and my life.

Just watched this wow I totally agree with not knowing the sex of your baby I did that and they're 23&20 now you carry the baby for 9 months go through labour for them to say it's a boy/girl and you to say oh I know new mums need a surprise after 9 months wondering
