    My daughter and I hiked part of the West Rim Trail in June. It was 111 degrees in the canyon. We ran low on water and about overdid the hike. I cooled off in the Virgin River. Love your videos.

      Thanks! 111? That must've been brutal. This was only in the 90's and that was bad enough.

    Jerry, you make the best videos! Always a treat and wanting to see more. Are you using the Big Agnes Copper Spur UL3 in this video? Comtemplating picking one up. You prefer the 3 over the 2 for the extra room, correct? TIA

    • @JerryArizona
      @JerryArizona  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you! It is a Copper Spur UL 3. We've been using it for years now and love it. My only complaints are the bag it comes in is so light weight, it's been ripped so badly I had to get another bag to put it in. Not a big deal since I'm probably going to switch to a cheap stuff sack to put it inside my backpack (instead of the heavy compression sack I got off Amazon to carry it outside the pack). And the zippers can be a little finicky. Sometimes they'll come unzipped on the wrong side of the zipper but I can always just pull it backwards and it'll reset. I also have a 2 person BA Tiger Wall when I go out solo. I like using a 3 person tent for 2 people and a 2 person tent for one person so I can store all my gear inside in case it rains. I love Big Agnes.

    Such beautiful views! This brings back such good memories of my glamping trip with REI when I was 71 and my knees were still good. We climbed Angels Landing in September and it was hot but doable with plenty of water…the guides carried extra water to dump over us at various intervals…what a hoot🤣. Glamping with guides and cooks is a far cry from my earliest backpacking trips in my teens hiking in the Rockies, the Cascades, and the Olympics. It’s been a great journey 👍🤗

    The trees, the sky, the earth and all its parts, both new and old. You make me miss the southwest more than any other vlogger. I greatly appreciate your attention to details that others might overlook. The beauty is difficult to capture with a camera, but you do a damn fine job. Keep on trekking and thanks for showing me what I can’t access on my own any longer. There is nothing better than being in nature with someone you love, especially someone that will set up a tent for you when you’re not feeling it. Best to both of you. ❤

      Zion's scenery is probably my favorite. You gotta go up there and run Pine Creek and the Subway. I love the normal views, but Zion's slot canyons are another level.

      The main park is pretty crowded. I usually backpack or take a technical route when I go to (mostly) avoid the crowds. But even the 'normal' hikes are beautiful.

    Thank you, thank you, thank you for this one! This was the hike my son and I never did - "the one that got away" - when we went out there in June, 2021. (Your Point Sublime video was massive inspiration for an eventual, successful two nights there just before we hit Zion.) We had also scheduled with Red Rocks Shuttle to go up to Lava Point, but the day before, after we had arrived in Springdale, it showed a predicted high of 105 at the lower elevations on hike day. Not being familiar with the temperature ranges between the top and the bottom of the trail, we bailed and instead drove up to Kolob just to look around in the car. Thanks to your video, I've got a renewed energy to go back and try to hike the West Rim Trail. (This is the best video of the several I have seen documenting the high-to-low direction, and while I am certainly biased, I'm pretty sure I'm objectively correct.) Seriously, thank you!

    Jerry, oh my thanks for the reminiscing moments. This midwestern guy has driven to Southern Utah the last couple of Falls, and may be doing it again this year. Zion/Bryce/Capitol Reef/Escalante are my favorite places on Earth!
    I did the West Rim trail a few years ago, and had to stay at site 8. (in Potato Hollow, before the big climb there),. Anyway, next time you guys do this hike, walk down the 1/4 mile or so path to site 8. There's not much to see there on the surface. But when you get to the tent pad, turn right and walk towards the mounds of sage brush looking area, a few hundred yards to your right.
    Once you're there, it's a total maze to get through the brush. But once you get thru it, enjoy the epic views of the canyon over there. It's totally worth the side trip. I found it because I got to my camp at 3pm and had plenty of time to explore. You totally can't see this from the tent pad. It's like a 5 minute walk. Check out my Zion video for my footage, at about the 18 : 50 mark.
    Love your vids! and love Utah.

    I personally prefer to hike up the hill regardless of that its more strenuous. I think I have far more control over my footing, grabbing and balance than on the way down. Given that I have a bad knee and a bad back and neck, as long as I am hiking with poles I do the slow and steady down the mountain too but I hate slipping and hitting my tail bone which is why I hike with poles. I tried without and it was so so much extra effort for my knees to bear.
