- Part 15 of the vintage 1973 Shasta 1400 camper trailer repair & restoration project. In this episode I install a few pieces of siding, and also cut and bend a few pieces to get rid of some bad spots. The Shasta also gets her first battle scar, so I had to break out the paint sprayer again.
Have been pondering the idea of buying a cheap camper trailer for awhile now. Stumbled upon your videos. Very informative, and entertaining at the same time. Looking forward to #16.
+Joel Mathre Thank you!
It's your throwaway comments which totally make it! "Do you want a leg or do you want a wing" immediately made me think "Belly up to the bar, or Come on in, the water's fine!" during your exhaust pipe source selection for the Trail 90 :-) Keep up the good work!
+MrBinabanana haha I'm glad you like the goofy factor!
I bought a 1973 Shasta and searched TH-cam for help on interior water damage. I was so lucky to find this series and have enjoyed watching them so much that I'm addicted, like my late night soap. Super entertaining, informative and now I plan to push my 73 Shasta off a cliff before I go through the same nightmare!
Thank you so much. I can't wait to see the next Shasta post!
+Cinderella Potts Thanks a lot, I'm glad you enjoy the videos
This Shasta rebuilt project is amazing and inspiring. I would have thrown a match on this the moment I started finding the rot. Watching you rebuild this has caused me to complete some projects I have been putting off around the homestead for years. Very nice work. You are a great inspiration.
I really enjoyed the videos on you'r Shasta. Not only very informative , it was also quite entertaining. You and the misses are doing a great job.
+Larry Davis Thanks for the encouraging words!
Your style is growing on me. Keep up the good work on the project. Looking forward to seeing the final product.
+John Stryker haha that's because I wear the same thing in just about every episode!
+Jennies Garage I meant more of your style of making your videos and your style of presenting information but the way you dress is cool too. Lol.
I have quite enjoyed watching the camper videos. I was hoping to see the finished product. I know it's a lot of work, but would love to see some more. Thanks for the truly entertaining videos.
+Monica Woods There will be more, I've just been moving slower lately.
Having fun watching the restoration. You are awesome!
+Sarah Smile (Sarah Beard) Thanks a lot!
U are a wizard sir...I have watched since part 1 and I am always left jaw dropped by your skill!!! Pleasure to watch u!!!!
Your videos pass the time nicely. I'm going to be working on old trailer myself so I'm learning lots on this build. However, I'm kinda housebound for a few weeks cause of a work injury so your vids certainly have the laughter I'm looking for.
+Ryno Jackson Thanks a lot, I hope you get well soon.
I'm doing a similar build myself....1963 Glendale Orbit. It's great seeing someone else's ideas and how they implement them. Keep up the great videos
+Steve MacDonnell That sounds like a great project, have fun!
i do enjoy your music as you time lapse your project.
I was a bit worried on part 1 but you guys are actually doing it. Great work!
Yeah it's coming along (slowly)
OMG you are so funny!! I'm getting ready to paint a horse trailer and your tips actually gave me some clarification. Thanks for your help!
Awesome video!! Thanks for the great series you are producing!! Have a great day!
+Jason “Murse Onagar” A Glad you are enjoying it, thanks.
I sure hope you and the Mrs & family are well! It's been an agonisingly long wait since your last upload! I'm dying to see the "after" shot of that sweet Shasta! Best wishes, brother!
+Jesse Lynn Thanks for being patient, It's taking a while, but it will get done!
Hey, I should be thanking you! I learn a lot from all your videos. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing it with all of us!
Good video! I hope the next one will be available sooner!! Greetings from Holland
+Jordi van der Veen Thanks! Things have slowed down around here, but I'll get another one up as soon as I can.
Great videos!! Really enjoyed watching you restore the Shasta. Looks like one of my projects. Looking forward to more!
Wow, great job on the shasta so far, just watched it all now and enjoyed viewing your journey with it, looking forward to the next instalment, also just completed watching the trails 90 project, thanks for sharing that journey as well, it's inspired me to have a go and I've now recently purchased a c90 that's in need of some tlc, not much of a mechanical background but willing to give it a try,
Great work bud👏👏👏
+Jay Wright Thanks for checking out the videos, and that c90 should be an awesome bike!
You did an amazing job with this trailer!
watched the entire Shasta series again, your patience is incredible!! awesome job!!
...Back in The Saddle Again ...GOOD JOB!
+Jimbo hymlog Thanks! I do like me some aerosmith from time to time.
It's really come a long way, great job on the trailer!
+RubbleRacer172H Thank you! It's starting to come together finally!
Because I am a moron, and so easily engrossed in watching this series, when camera girl waved I waved back. Just ‘cause I really thought she was waving to me. Time to step back.... Anyways, great job and series. All I can say when the apocalypse hits, I am coming to get you. You got the improvisation skills, both mechanically and comedically.
I miss you guys!
Can't wait for your next video! We have learned a lot from you! Thank you!
+Dave Floyd I appreciate it, thanks!
Great job on the restoration! Waiting for part 16!!
+Camping With Greg & Betty Thanks!
Love the entire series.Great job, am looking forward to the next show.
+Martin Vaillancourt Glad you are enjoying the videos, thanks!
cant wait to see the final product. good job man!!!
+mike soto Glad you like the series, thanks.
i was thinking. you basically paid 1000 for trailer templates and a jet ski trailer lol. just buggin ya. love this series! keep the videos coming!!!
To be honest, yes, I guess he didn't want the trouble of designing. He built everything except the base frame/chassis or whatever one may want to call. It definitely was an education 😀
Starboard side in trailer talk is the Curb Side. Other side is Street Side. At least in the US it is. Staple the open end of the stress crack together and your door jamb metal will cover that. Sand and bondo the rest of the crack. I like your bending process for the S Lock. Luckily I have access to a hand brake. The waggaly daggaly portion or folded under part is called an Auto-Mold. You're painting looks good also.
+mobiltec Thanks so much, I envy that hand brake. Good idea about the crack too, it seems like a lot of coaches crack in the same spot.
+Jennies GarageYep the weakest part of the trailer frame is the entrance door area. I see cracks going up at a 45 degree angle all the time. You did the right thing drilling a hole to stop it from spreading. I then staple the crack in a few places and get out the bondo.
very cool, hope we can see the finished product
great stuff ! and creativity>>>
Man! You crack me up with those songs! 😅
I'm a fan! Great job and you make me laugh too!
Thanks, I'm glad you like the videos!
You are hilarious. Hi Jen. love the progress. Happy New Year from John & Sunny
+MrMusicknot Thanks a lot John! Happy 2016 to you guys too.
Great video and entertaining as always. Like I've said before, you need to send in a video for an audition to one of those DIY channels. You'd be awesome! Looking forward to your next Shasta video!
+terry3193 It's on my mind! I'm kind of trying to figure out which direction to go though.
sorry for all the comments however I'm new to ur channel. you have crazy skills and I'm impressed. mainly u seem to be a paper pusher for your career so these skills would be acquired on the side😅👍
Comment all you want, I appreciate it!
Lol that's the best song ever!!!! Awesome
+Sam Bucci haha glad you enjoyed that.
Absolutely love your videos! keep the good work (and corny jokes) !
+Henry Flath Thanks!
Nice work! We're starting our search for a new RV project now and are also considering an old Shasta.
+RV Circus Good luck, I hope you find one!
great song, and thank you for not bringing up sensitive topics like the bubble donut earth and demon magicians
+Torsion Fields thanks a lot! earth shape talk is a hot potato I've found
Great ideas!!!
+Huntly Kickboxing thanks!
good stuff, we want part 16 and more :)
+azimmey there will be more :)
great job, after all that hard work replacing the rotten timber I'd have put a waterproof membrane over the frame before cladding / siding to reduce any future leaks
nice job!
Yea, I do so enjoy these videos much better.. yea I do wish they were daily but I know as well as the next, these kind cannot happen that fast!.. Oh and I did notice that you did something new with the hair.. Good Job!
+DillysADV shave and a haircut for the new year!
hey man. i love the videos. ive watched 15 episodes in 2 days. im hooked!!!! i live in a 24 ft nomad camper and after watching your restoration i now have the confidence to renovate my own. but i would love to know what kind of roto zip you used to build your cabinets and all the other things you cut and trimmed.
+Christopher Burgess I'm not sure of the exact model, but any of them should work fine. I used a ball bearing flush trim bit.
I have been watching your Shasta restoration series for what seems like F-O-R-E-V-E-R!
Would love to see the conclusion. You have done a wonderful job and have given me many insights as to what I need to do to restore my own travel trailer. I have a 1966 Phoenix 16ft (canned ham) that I plan on doing the same to but am waiting to see your finished project. When will the last installment come out? Please reply. :)
+David Dixon I have been delayed lately, but I've got all the footage for the next video and will be editing it this week. Thanks!
Ghost
Can't wait for the next te250 vid! after you have finished the project it would be awesome if you did a review on it!?
+Luca Prosperi Yeah, probably do something like a review/ride along when it's done.
Lol waiting on a update. I just picked up a 57 Dalton and plan on doing some renovating.
+D Manuel Those are great looking trailers! I should have the next video up soon, I'm working on editing now.
Omg yes I've been waiting so long
+Moto after Moto Thanks a lot! Glad you liked the video
Thank you for the update. I am wondering how much time is spent editing. Nice work guys.
+Wythegoodsense I've never figured out exactly, but probably on average an hour of editing per minute of finished video. Glad you enjoyed the video!
YAYYYYYYY more Shasta videos ;)
+Jasons Life yeah slow and steady
;)
I am looking for part 16 maybe I have to wait for spring.
+Sidney Boudro Trying to get it out soon
Like to see a update on the camper!
+Camping With Greg & Betty I'm working on it!
It is not my place, or my "cause", to complain.Anyone can find fault, if they look for it.There are things you have done that I would have done different, and you have done some that I will try. But, I wish you had used "welting". Would have dressed up the inside so much.Enjoyed watching. Thank you.Waiting on 16.
+Wally Verbeck Thanks for the kind words, glad you are enjoying the series.
Wheres the last video if the final project
Love the funny parts! U should do stand up
U rock!
+Joseph Boehm Thanks for the kind words. There will be more episodes coming up.
You are so talented!!! When is the next episode coming out????
Awesome, back to it! I've been waiting for an update. Thanks for doing this. I love watching the amount of work and detail you have put into the Shasta. Have you considered giving it a name? I say it because idk if you feel the trailer is a he or a she.
+Steve Muniz definitely a she but I haven't thought of a name. But now I'm thinking about it so who knows!
I know this video is aged but what did you thin the rust oleum paint down with to run it through your gun?
i need the shasta restoration sound track on dvd pls
Your video's are great and funny. I'm restoring a Shasta Deluxe 1960. What size air compressor did you use? A lot of places say you need a really big one but that may not be so.
+dwntwnbrn1 I have a small emglo airmate 4 gallon compressor that runs about 4cfm. It works, but i need to wait for it to catch up a lot. with a slow drying paint like the rustoleum it was no problem, but it might be more troublesome with a fast drying paint that flashes real quick. It would've been nicer to have a bigger unit but I limped by on the one I have.
when are you going to put a new video on the new dirt bike? love your videos keep up the good work!
+Bryson Ellis I've got the filming done for the next one, now I'm editing.
+Jennies Garage OK keep up the good work love you videos
ooh its getting exciting now where are you going for your first trip?
+Kathie Hammil Hi Kathie, we really want to go to the grand canyon.
K I have watched every video, the Shasta song lol dude
So where is Part 16? Waiting patiently for now.
+Dawn Lee It's in the works, I have the video shot, just need to edit it down. Thanks!
On the wall insulation panels, did you use 1” polyiso or were you able to find 3/4” to match the framing? I can’t find 3/4” anywhere.
I used 3/4", I had no problem finding it, but that was a couple years ago. Hope you can find some.
Jennies Garage ok cool, thank you! I’ll keep looking. Also, did you use any vapor barrier in your ceiling? My current ceiling has clear plastic but I want to tear it out and add thicker insulation.
I would have put some house wrap under it. But that is easy for me to say!
in episode 4 you used a roto tool -- what bit did you use for your cuts
+Anthony Apodaca flush cut with bearing guide
Shasta / Trail-90 in 2016!
+jokelanddotcom sounds legit to me. I know where both of them were born, they have no ties to the corrupt establishment and neither is being investigated by the FBI!
Where do i look for getting aluminum siding ?
hi man, we are missing you..
I would wager the stress cracks over the door are caused by excessive frame flexing on the front, behind the hitch and the front of the body. I cover low damage with aluminum tread-brite
+james davies haha stay tuned...
What was the cost to replace your siding?
How much did the siding cost you ? We have a 1979 chevy class C that i bought recently for $800.
A lot of people says that it will cost $3-4k just for the siding is this true?
ive been looking for siding too,, you can get sheet aluminum at a metal supplier but looking for corrugated aluminum,, this guy didnt buy this its the original he just repainted
will you tow the shasta with the Trail 90 ?
+CR2504life (it does have a *LOW* gear)
+CR2504life No way, that's why I bought the husky!
@@jenniesgarage nice channel God bless your family ✌️
What was that "filler" you used and sanded off? Thank you.
Your right, the panels are going back on smashing :-D
That looked like a pain in the bum to recreate the under strips, i think i would screw that up really badly.
What overspray, we didnt see anything, i was looking the other direction officer :)
Not sure about the singing, it started raining here lol, sorry :-(
+zx8401ztv The singing wasn't too bad.. But, then I was probably concentrating a little too much on the view at the time. That young assistant lad helping out had something fascinating about.. er.. him. What a handsome young chap he is.. ;)
+TheHolySpirit Have you been watching black adder lol :-D
+zx8401ztv Yes that metal bending was an extreme hassle. Took me hours, but I thought I would spare the viewers the entire process. And I never claimed to be a good singer (or trailer restorer haha).
Did you make part 16 of Shasta restoration
+Jorge Castaneda It's in the works!
Where did you purchase you siding? And what was the cost?
I don't remember where I got it or the cost, sorry! But it is a standard 3" mesa pattern and made of aluminum. If your siding is the same type, and you are in a good size town I think if you call around you could find someone who has a stock of it, because it is very common. Good luck!
was that the beat u made for a later time XD
+Caleb Ponder no, I haven't used that yet, saving it for the right time!
wish u woulda fixed the cracks by melting metal sorta welding i guess. similar i guess to plastic welding in the back and filling and sanding
I've still got plans for that area, it should look ok. Thin aluminum is hard to weld. Thanks for the comment!
Can we get this project rolling again ?????
+Rusty Harvey I'm working on it!
where did you get your metal
I have a camper with backend end of camper,2×2 and floor rotted out and floor,
is this the most recent installment?
+Will M Yes, the next one will be out soon.
hey dude can't wait for your video what's up with you?
+Arkadiusz Przybyl I'm still here, just working different stuff, should have more videos soon. Thanks!

You could do well around here.

+Jeffery Cathcart I'm still working on that!
N this man laughed bout previous paint job)
