I was driving my little brother to daycare when I first heard this song on the radio. Gave me the courage to ask out the girl that worked there. Took her home for dinner, made her a homecooked meal and finally after a year of being a depressed shut in, I finally got around to caring for my home and myself to impress her. I wasted 16 years with someone who loved the *idea* of me but didn't actually love *me*. The beauty from ashes of that relationship, and my saving grace, is my daughter. I saw the example I was setting and realized I didn't want her growing up thinking that was love. She gave me the courage to end it. I'm 4.5 years out of that relationship and still hoping to find a love like the one in the song.
I had that...and I did that...I loved her, she loved me, and I let her go because I was afraid to put my walls down and let her into my life. I broke her heart. An absolutely beautiful song that made me cry...thank you.
