      Sir Oddie,
My you are a busy fellow ! Now in the 'Moslueam busness' eh?! And selling Oddie 'merch' inside it. 😉That's just a little 'hint'.
Still have a few things to add, will be in the wonderful kool weird Oddie taste, will be very small, easy to ship in April.
I have to look around my apt. for the 'grass', if I can't find it, then will paint the ground, but it and the little added bit should ship in early April.
If you want a 'sneak peak' I could pop over to your Facebook page and put some pics of the 'Moslueam' up. The inside needs to be done, (most is already) and a quick Crazy glueing together & it will be done.
It still needs the fence & little headstones. Again it will be very small but a fun Creepy, Creepy, Joy, fun piece.
Plus a bit more to come.....😁
The little projects keep one from going bonkers from boredom in the apt. 'manager run state pen', 😂😁 I refuse to let her bring me down, life's too short.
I guarantee you'll see the name 'Waters' (👉manager) on a headstone in the little graveyard.😎
Will take pics of it when it's all done before sending it to add with the 1st pics of the Moslueam you'd of already seen.
Hope it brings a smile in todays crazy troubleing times. 🙏🍺's

I have loved Thelma Todd and been fascinated by her ever since my high school theatre teacher held up my "headshot " next to Thelma Todd's picture and and told me I was her double. To a low esteem girl who felt like an ugly duckling, that was such a compliment. I started collecting Thelma Todd memorabilia and still do today.

The broken nose is key in my opinion. Not only were investigations not very thorough back then but there was also a lot of corruption with people being paid off to either keep their mouth shut or to lie. It would seem that this death was personal to someone because nothing was stolen from the car or her person. Excellent presentation Oddie, thank you for all your hard work.🤗☺️

Although, if she was intoxicated and walked up hill or stairs to garage while wearing high heels, she easily could have broken nose from a fall.
Holding her handbag in one hand and cluching her mink coat closed with other hand, it's not uncommon for inebriated people to fall... in my opinion.

@@joanbrennan2534 I get what you're saying but having been inebriated person who has fallen in high heels I've injured my wrists more times than my face because I brace for the fall. Even having been drunk as a skunk they're still that reaction that subconscious physical reaction to brace yourself. I mean to fall flat on your face you'd have to be really drunk so drunk that you're not clutching your purse and coat anymore before the fall. I'm happy to get completely wasted and act out my hypothesis and let you know the results of said experiment 😉
But for real I have fallen in high heels very drunk at least a dozen times of my life and I've never fallen flat on my face. In theory it's possible but not probable, in my opinion. But who am I?

It's amazing that her cafe location has survived. I grew up in Ventura county and always wondered about the cafe location every time I'd drive by it on the PCH. I didn't know about Thelma's story until I was an adult. The building was vancant for many many years. Until recently, it now has been fully renovated and still just as beautiful as ever. There is a home for sale which is located just above the cafe. It shares the same walkway to the garage which is near the garage where Thelma was found.
It's so incredibly sad what happened to her and hope she is resting, at peace, admiring the ocean view from her beloved cafe, from time to time.. 🙏🏼❤️

Hello Oddie, I grew up in San Diego. My understanding of the Whaley House is that at one time it was rented out & used as a courthouse . The area next to it is where the gallows was set up & the house was expanded and eventually covered the gallows area. I visited the house approx 15 years ago & was touring the upstairs area. The bedrooms had plexiglass installed to limit access but to my left were some curtains which would sporadically blow as if a gentle wind current was tweaking them. When I was downstairs I mentioned this to a docent & asked if there were drafts in that area. She smiled & said no.

I once visited the Whaley House and had an interesting experience. There's a staircase and they say that above where it is used to be the gallows before the house was built. I had gone up the steps and looked back and there was a boy there, about 9 or so who had stopped right in the middle of the staircase and was clutching his throat. I asked him if he was all right and he shook his head like he was trying to clear his mind and he said "I..I think so..." it was like I had shook him out of a trance. He had seemed like a bored kid on a family trip to an historical house before that, so I thought it rather odd.

I stop the film and read the newspaper articles when they’re legible. Apparently, Roland West was alerted to the fact that Todd was on her way home by a call from the cafe. There’s also fifteen minutes between delivery home and the time the driver left, with no description of the activities in that time frame. Also, the original coroner noted a broken nose and a split lip. Someone killed this woman. I like Roland but question whether or not he had the power to cover it up. Be interesting to know if there was a gambling operation there afterwards. Organized crime taking care of it for Roland, as a “favor“, while also involving him, means he would owe one back. And they always collect. Great stuff, as usual. Sending me to google again. 👍🏼 Thanks Oddie.

Loved the animated photoclips! Well done coverage of Old Hollyweird, too, by Oddie! In some photos, Miss Todd appears older than 29, but who knows? Apparently it was downright dangerous for a woman to appear to be going into business for herself in the 30s, especially if she were already known as a “starlet” by the public at large.
Jack Dragna, Mickey Cohen, & Ben Siegel were some known West Coast mobsters of that era-or thereabout. Not sure Luciano had any direct California interests before Nevada became a gambling haven.
But it really appears a case of either “accidental suicide,” or of suspects a lot closer to home. Ex-husband was in town? Why? He had no acting nor film career prospects, so why was he clinging on? To a woman who was his victim? The mother would’ve been killing the golden goose, so that’s unlikely. And the chauffeur seemed the most forthcoming person as to where he was & when, & had no clear motive because it would’ve only Helped him to be seen driving the Packard of Miss Thelma Todd’s around town, which he’d no longer be doing if she died.
What’s at that locale of the Inn today? Nice photos of the hills (& the interior pics) before urban clutter & junkety-junk. Must’ve been truly glamorous back in 1935!!

@@DoloresJNurss Can’t discount this at all! I wondered about all of that cooking for people after hours & such! I mean, she was working just like they were & felt like feeding them?!
But I also think “the movies,” the stresses of juggling careers, love triangles, & being stalked would also MAKE anybody drink!
Hollywood was/is known to fudge biographical material for its stars-plus her mother appears in that photo to have been getting on a little, too. Hardly up to trying to keep up with the twentysomething crowd, wouldn’t you say? But I do tend to see Theta Barra, Joan Crawford, Mary Gish, & other “starlets” as older just because the fashions then look “old” by comparison, so don’t go by me!
Still, it happened in mid-Great Depression. Any “successful” person would’ve had lots of hangers-on, dragging them down, ⚓️ I should imagine… a short life, but apparently happy overall for 1935 (except for that husband episode & then sharing a married man… then dragging it out with a business venture-BUT: they didn’t cut the wife out financially, or did they??). So, I agree!! Thelma Todd’s candle burned at both ends! 🌪🎪🍷🧨 ❤️‍🔥💘

Beautifully and sensitively presented as always Oddie dear. The only thing I’m certain of with her death,is that she did not intentionally kill herself. It is also unlikely that she was seriously intoxicated…she was professional and intelligent enough to avoid garnering that kind of negative publicity. I’m sure she let herself get a little happy with her signature drink…a bit of a glow on, but never ugly or sloppy drunk. That would have been bad for her image. As for the rest, she was wealthy, beautiful, a successful business woman and actress (as they were called then. I think her ex was into the Mob for money, likely he had traded on her having been married to him, and said she would pay his debt. Then I think he went to the party to ask her for money…he approached her at the garage and drew her into being willing to hear him out. He tells his tale of woe and asks her to help him. She refused to cover his debt, he lost his temper and punched her, breaking her nose and knocking her out. He panicked, arranged her in the car and turned it on…he couldn’t take anything from her, as many people had seen them both at the party, and knew her jewelry, and that she had cash.🖤🇨🇦

Good work, Oddie! This is one of the best of the many stories told about the Ice Cream Blonde Murder. * I've wondered what Ida Lupino thought happened -- not what she stated for the police report, but her private theory. A birthright star of the Lupino family of performers, she "knew the territory" and undoubtedly noted what was stirring in puddles, ponds and depths.

Hi Oddie, I just love your amazing vintage pictures, scenes and narration. And YES ! I heard of the Ice cream, lovely Blonde actress Thelma Todd . I think she was murdered to make it look like suicide. And probably placed in the car. She hung around many gangsters and I think her sidewalk cafe was so successful they wanted a piece of it and when she refused her fate was sealed. Some people say it was a contract hit by Mob boss Charles "Lucky" Luciano. Which in my opinion was true. Lucky was ruthless and would order females to be killed too along with his male rivals. Maybe it could of been her lover Roland West ?! The mystery remains. Sad. Thelma seemed like such a nice, pretty lady & actress. As always thanks for the upload.

Great video! I especially liked how you brought Ms. Todd “ to life” with the blinking eyes and slight movement of the mouth. This is my first time viewing one of your videos and I just subscribed.
The way I heard it, Luciano and his mob associates wanted to buy Thelma’s club and keep her involved as a lure for the Hollywood crowd and similar well-fixed patrons so that they could up the amount of gambling in the restaurant/club, hence making it a real money maker, albeit illegally. Thelma turned them down and her murder was the consequence.

When she said 'over my dead body', Lucky was said to have responded as Thelma walked away, 'That could be arranged.' I think it was Lucky Luciano who had her killed.

Cases back then were shady and there were known cases of cover ups. Also, forensics science was i its infancy, so she was possibly abused, knocked out, placed into the car and made it to look like a suicide. This was also a time when husbands could abuse their wives and get away with it, so there were probably lots of cases where a womans' death is usually scratched off as suicide when in reality for all we know it was domestic abuse and murder. I'm so glad we live in today's world where you can't just simply touch or abuse people nilly-willy. Thank you for another great video as always.

So interesting thank u oddie you never fail to reel me in to your stories. My thoughts about lucky Luciano being involved in her death is very slim , I mean, he may of wanted to get a cut of the cafes profits but he would of had more chance of benefiting from it if Thelma was still alive and if he was bitter about her refusal he would of more than likely got a match to the cafe and burnt it down rather than harming Thelma and surely he would of sent his heavies round to Roland after her death . But that just my personal opinion on Lucky Luciano's involvement.

Knocked another one out of the ballpark! Always enjoy listening to your videos are so well put together and of course excellently narrated. But I have always believed as far as Thelma in her death I believe it was one or more of the people that was trying to extort money from her they had a hand in her death. Because nobody can explain her broken nose and split lip, I believe that they rushed her up knocked her unconscious and put her in her car turned it on and left her there to die of carbon monoxide poisoning. She obviously was a real tough lady and she wasn’t going to play ball with any bullies so they decided to eliminator. That’s the only thing that makes sense to me. Thank you for posting the video. What if her ex owed money to the Mob, and had assured the debt by trading off her fame and. Wealth. He may have attended the party in order to ask her for money, and when she didn’t give him anything the Mob took it out on her. Another possibility is that her ex, in the same financial troubles approached her at the garage, lost his temper when she said no, punched her unconscious, and to cover up the violence with an “accidental death”. He couldn’t then Rob her to pay his debt. Too many possibilities.🖤🇨🇦

I loved this video and a look into the past! As others have said, I also think Thelma may have been beaten and left in the garage. She may have revived and started the car. She was then unable to drive or do much of anything else and succumbed to mounting carbon monoxide levels in the garage. A very sad end to a bright and enterprising young woman, looking to provide for herself in the future after her Hollywood fame was gone. I think people were resentful and envious of Thelma's acting fame and now the success of her restaurant, and wanted to put a damper on it and "teach her a lesson" because she wouldn't allow them to introduce gambling into her restaurant. Perhaps things just went too far and Thelma unexpectedly started the car, thus asphyxiating herself. OR, perhaps it was out and out murder. We'll probably never know. Thanks for a very captivating, fascinating story!

I find the suggested scenario (about being locked out, walking to the garage, using the car to warm herself, and succumbing to the carbon monoxide) very likely. Her broken nose and split lip could easily be explained by their impact with the steering wheel when she lost consciousness. I did see a bit of blood on her cheek. However, I wouldn't expect to see all that much, assuming her heart stopped beating shortly after the injury was sustained. I'm for tragic accident, not murder or suicide. However, I suppose we'll never know.

Very interesting. Really liked seeing all the pictures. Thelma was so beautiful. I think her death was an accident, but we’ll never know. She may have been intoxicated, but a person does not to be in that condition to succumb to carbon monoxide poisoning. We had a local young couple, think they were just engaged, coming home from a date in the Winter (he was dropping her off at her parents house), they stayed in the car to warm up a bit before the girl getting out. They both fell asleep and died from carbon monoxide poisoning. So very sad-they we’re buried in the same plot. There’s a picture of each on their gravestone. Brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it. Great video.

Hollywood, in particular, and Los Angeles, in general, have a long and peculiar history of rather strange and unexplained deaths, our Oddie. I've done some research about this, and LA has a long history of corruption in so many ways...it's a very strange, and in many ways, rather a scary place. And so is Hollywood, with a VERY long history of strange deaths that have never been explained to anyone's satisfaction, practically since its inception. Decades of failed relationships, alcohol and drug dependence, financial ruin, involvement with organized crime, immense power struggles, and much more...all carefully hidden beneath the surface maintained for its "glamorous" face. I may sound like an awful cynic, Oddie Beau. But that town is plain nasty. I've thought over the death of Thelma Todd for several years, and though it may have simply been an accident (the blood found around her nose and mouth is easily explained, not necessarily the result of an assault), we'll never know for certain. All the hype has seen to that. Never look for truth from Los Angeles or Hollywood, our Oddie Beau. It just doesn't live in either place. Excellent video, as always, my dear. Please keep them coming, for this old armchair detective!

@@ObsoleteOddity the grave of Richard Burton is pretty humble in my book inspite his alcohol problems he was a gifted and well respected actor. I loved to see him act and this burial does suit him if Liz Taylor would have gotten her way she would have been buried with him. His wife stopped that. He did finally move on without her but there were too many issues in the way and he never really got over her and meeting him once he told me he would never forget her I told him he had to move on that it was time. I still have his autographed photo of him and I saw him a few times more before he died, he did not want to live without Liz.. he pretty much drank himself to death. Which he told me he wanted to do. He had cancer and no liz there to comfort him he pretty much gave up. But I look forward to more videos and if we ever get past covid I am hitting the airports to travel more places. Hope to meet you some day I am a big fan of yours and of your beloved 😍

I decided to just travel and back pack thru Switzerland and camp where I was allowed and boy you really get to know people and what better way to dig in and see the beauty of the country I was welcomed everywhere I went and wanted for nothing I hit just about every antique's shops I could find bought what took my fancy and sent my things home ahead of me. I am a firm believer that countries and people are good, it is government that messes things up. I have my health, my love of God and I want for nothing, I ain't rich but I have a home, my health, my love of my savior and food on my table so I am a blessed person at 73 I am still back packing thru Europe and never doubting for a minute my love for my lord and savior. Theory 1. Thelma was so intoxicated that when she got into her car and started the car so she could get warm, the fumes over came her and her head fell forward striking her face on the steering wheel. Theory 2. Lucky Luciano didn't like being told no, so he got his men to ruff up and made it look like a suicide..not they are true, theses are just my theories

    • @Gl6619
      @Gl6619 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

That’s not the way the mob worked….Lucky Luciano was smart…he would have never been involved with a small scale operation (I mean small scale because there wasn’t enough money coming through the gambling operation that the mob would even care about it, maybe small time hoods, but not Cosa Nostra) also, Lucky Luciano would not have personally approached someone like that..he would have had an associate do it. The mob was flourishing in NY at the time so I’m not sure why they would be that concerned with a small time gambling operation at that time..
New York never had a big interest in California, the Chicago mob made more of an impact, trying to extort the Film industry unions..
But that could make a great fiction novel, especially considering one doesn’t have to be accurate historically to write a book, just make sure it’s “based on a true story”

I think it was Roland West and his wife Jewel that "offed" Thelma. Thelma had become inconvenient - and stood in the way of Roland and Jewel's plan to take over the business and enrich themselves at her expense.

That voice modulation sounded familiar. 😁
I believe the owner of Chez Roland did it in his garage. That scenario has been seen in so many movies and television shows. If she was pushed to the left, that could mean someone was leaning over her side on the right to turn on the ignition. Duh.
Nice car! If I were to die in a vehicle, that would be a good choice. Much better than the Ford Escort that almost killed me. Seat belts save lives.

She had a broken nose, and split lip. But she could have fallen, or tripped, and fell on her face. Drunk people do that..but that is very suspicious. I think she was murdered. They wanted the bussiness. Pretty lady. Business owners that were women, and were prosperous, were looked down apon. Like she should just cook in the kitchen, but not own, or manage the business. 🤔
