I used to make traps like that for rabbits when I was a kid. We had to obtain a license to trap. You would be assigned a number that you had to attached to each trap you used. This is how game wardens would know if you were abiding by regulations such as number of traps on your line or where your traps were set. If they were set in a area restricted to trapping they would know whose trap it is. If you are observed checking a trap with no ID tag your ticketed. If your caught checking a trap that does not belong to you as tag number don’t match your license. Ticket. Etc. Etc... I think that an old license # tag. Great upload! Thanks for posting!
This was a very interesting video. No better proof that it's been a winner than a chewed up door. I got a kick out of seeing that. It also must have been working well if somebody took the time to repair it and keep it going. I can't explain, just fascinating, and then to see it catch two! Old school beauty. Thank you for the vid.
Looks like a pretty simple build, it'd be cool to see a load of these lined up with different baits and have a guessing competition on the order they get set off!
Hey Shawn! Love your videos! An idea for you: Why not do a video showing your collection so far, where you go through most of your old traps, previously featured or not, and tell us a little about them. I’m sure people will be fascinated by the amount that you’ve gathered over the years!
So much fun rooting for catching both mice... YEAH!! Sure hope that you're able to find a way to post your uncensored videos... and still make money from them. Certainly worth watching for both information and entertainment. Good Luck!!
@Denis - I suspect you're right because Fort Ticonderoga was built in 1755 and active during the Revolutionary War. It was completely abandoned by 1781 and laid more or less in ruins through the 1800's... It wasn't until early 1900s that it was restored and opened to public tours. So if Shawn's estimate of 1850's build construction is correct this trap was built while the Fort was clapped out.
Hey Shawn a suggestion here. In your next videos could you focus your cameras on the trigger system and and the entrance of the traps. I would have like to see how the stick was positioned in the hole while trap was armed. Maybe angle the trap diagonal to camera next time so we can see mice enter but also see trigger mechanism Just a suggestion. Thanks for the videos!
Shawn Woods if that is from Fort Ticonderoga in NY I’m only 35 minutes away from there, I could show this video to the historians there and definitely know if they used this style of trap there
I would imagine there are quite a few interesting smells in there that the mice were more interested in than the bait. That is why that they took longer than they should have to trip the bait and trap
That deer mouse just devoured a chunk of history. Now that you've let it go, it's probably going to eat a chunk of timespace continuum. If you see a repeat message of this, you'll know why.
That's a pretty neat trap Shawn! That's crap that Vimeo terminated your account, although I never liked their platform anyway. The videos almost never play unless I spam the play button, and the full screen option was garbage. There are other platforms, I'm sure you'll find an adequate one. I can't wait to see Fridays video!
We built these only much bigger and some with two trap ends for rats. I let the rats out one at a time and my dog did the rest. An even bigger one was built by me to catch a cat that a neighbor wanted to be gone. After an afternoon we released it and it never came back.
We use this style of trap to catch flying squirrels. They work very well. Except we use a pop cycle stick as a trigger. They work very well and pretty much fail proof.
i want to see a video where you set up every mouse and rat trap you own in your barn or onearea of your property and see how many rats and mice you can catch,
I would nail a thin sheet of tin or aluminum to the inside of that trap door so critters couldn't chew on it. In fact, I might line the whole interior with thin sheets of metal.
Well I had to look up the Fort to see what it was so that was interesting. Glad to see you got two. But what is Pirate Booty never heard of it. Maybe it is not available in Canada. Looks a lot like Corn Twists.
There is only one question that remains after seeing your, rather impressive, trap collection here in your videos... What on Earth do you actually do for living?
Nice trap. I'm not sure how else to contact you so i will ask here. I've been trying to catch mice with the peanut oil in the bowl method without any success. Do you have any further tips that could help. cheers.
@@opcscott2875 yes but if you are not in a specific risc group (most people), you are not vaccinated. Fortunately there are also antibiotics. Still, not a good disease to get
"I've seen these in far worse condition sell for $150,000 at auction. However, because you removed the original finish and sprayed on a layer of polyurethane, you might get $5 for it." ;)

“An old antique auction tag.”
Dang, it’s so old even the auction tag is an antique.
It was so frustrating watching the second mice come in and out
tantalising...………...
It was tense. I was counting one, two, one, two.... Stay inside!!!
but the end result so satisfying.
@@tehguitarque yes , yes it was 😎😂
They do that for extra Camera time!
It’s an old trick, don’t fall for it.
Mouse 🐁 sticks head out. Dammit I know that Shawn is up to something.
Yes ! A double ! You can't believe how anxious I was each time the second mouse enters and exit.
Hahaha me too! I was yelling 'yes!' every time the second one went in. And then 'no!' when it left again. Haha!
Seeing the damage that one mouse did to the door, I'm sure that door isn't original either. It's probably been replaced quite a few times.
Yeah the door looks like a newer piece of wood.
And good thing it is, imagine the door being original and having a wild mouse destroy it
@@HercadosP There's a reason why there was no release footage. This is what you get for damaging my door!
@UKMonkey - So what was that at 3:47...?
My sons and I love watching your channel! We can't wait for the notification to pop up.
I was excited that you scored a very rare twofer here.
Even among mouse trapping videos in general, they are very rare!
It would've been funny if the door conked the second mouse on the head.
I know, I was waiting for that to happen.
@@SpiritBear12 You bastard. :D
yea
The trap itself is physically beautiful. I absolutely wouldn’t be afraid to have this lying around with guests about.

I wish I could get a man to be as excited about me as Shawn is about antique mouse traps 😂
gurl u get me more excited than PIRATE BooTee
Emily Bishop-Lester : Start catching mice and rats, and see what happens.
Right here. I got you girl.
Have you tried some pirate booty as bait?
Challenge accepted 😈👍
Looks like a pretty simple build, it'd be cool to see a load of these lined up with different baits and have a guessing competition on the order they get set off!
I’m a local from the area where Fort Ticonderoga is. Pretty cool seeing something from my area!
Sorta' wish you'd kept that native Deer Mouse to become a new Mousetrap Monday Movie Star... the little critter was adorably cute! 🐀
Wouldn’t he need to fill out some paperwork if he does?

It's happening to true content. Good luck Shawn. Newly subscribed.
The pet mouse really seemed to enjoy the Pirate Booty. Don't be surprised if it starts going arrr, Jim lad! In the near future.
Unless it can be verified it's just a story. The greatest weakness of man is that we love a good story. Unscrupulous sellers are keenly aware of this.

Most history cannot be completely verified. It's just a matter of probability.
I was chanting twofer, when the two mice were in it. I even cheered when it happened.
That deer mouse was so cute.

Shawn Wood the President and Curator of the World Famous Mouse Trap Museum
He really should start one
Your videos give me something positive about Mondays. Some of your videos are still available on the MTM app but I did notice some are unavailable.
Thank you Shawn again!
I have caught so many rabbits with this style trap. Proven design that works.
Excellent work as always!
5:00 Two for one? The anticipation is killing me!
Yay! A two-fer!! Well done!
We made large versions of this trap when we were kids to catch rabbits.
Thank you Shawn, very cool!
I am on vacation looking out on Lake George (site of Ticonderoga) as I watch this.
Thats a nice addition for your collection

Imagine creating something not even knowing that it would still be around almost 200 years later. Crazy

I second that! 👍
4:40 Those mice were "in and out like a fiddler's elbow", as my Dad would say.
I would nail a thin sheet of tin or aluminum to the inside of that trap door so critters couldn't chew on it. In fact, I might line the whole interior with thin sheets of metal.
cut nails came out in the 1790s. The fort was abandoned by that time so it's unlikely it was part of the fort. Still old and neat.
Dude loves mice
I used to be uncomfortable of even looking at mice but with ur vids I am more comfortable
Thank u
good, now u can eat them
Dave K. Yup
Awesome trap.
I was wondering what if I make mouse trap 10 times bigger and disguise as my front door.....
And put an big Amazon box as bait
I've never tried Pirate Booty! 😅 Funny name!
It's a cool old fort by Lake George NY.
My uncle made one of these and it worked pretty good.
1:30 (868) area code from Trinidad 🤣, Great video! How's the family doing? Haven't gotten a recent update after the unfortunate accident.
Hey, Shawn! Have a good day!
Twofer! Very cool
Where i live one of the animals we have that are native to here is gardner snakes and every time i catch i keep and i have one wich is 1 year old
Looks easy to build this trap
very cool trap
Love the antique videos Sean how is your family doing after the accident
How do you stop mice from breeding? Give 'em a little snip.
Do a mousetrap Showdown of all the traps u uabe tryed and see that one is the best
Wow an eBay mousetrap that was used at Ft Ticonderoga! So, uh....like when are you going to show us the haunted mouse trap you bought off eBay?
Well I had to look up the Fort to see what it was so that was interesting. Glad to see you got two.
But what is Pirate Booty never heard of it. Maybe it is not available in Canada. Looks a lot like Corn Twists.
They're like Cheetos. They carry them at the dollar store where I am from. My kids love them too.
Love ur trap vids about mice
Great video 👍👍👍
Awesome videos!
XD that's my favorite snack too I always ask my mom to get some mostly says yes
No dead house mice to feed to the beaver dam or compost pile critters?
I love ur vids sooooooo much they are so entertaining to watch
Rat guards on cruise ships, do they work?
Nah, they wiil eat all your food
The trigger looks like it would do well with your snare type traps... You wouldn't have to keep using new string

Double kill! I mean caught!
That an awesome invention but probably might not work for rats bcuz they to big but maybe a heavier door.
Probably built by unsung hero of the Revolutionary War, Hector Heathcote.
Lol it's like putting your pet mice into a haunted house.
